Chapter 23: Sect’s
Elder Cassius glanced at the Patriarch, a quiet understand passing between them. The others were unaware of Seraph’s mysterious backer and were full of suspicion—especially after seeing his inventions that helped win the Midnight War.
They were grateful to him, but that didn’t an they would just accept it calmly. Everyone wanted to protect their own interests, and they were wary of the young genius turning against them.
Patriarch Gon reclined into his chair.
"You need not to worry. I know all about him." He said reassuringly.
However, this still didn’t clear the suspicion in their hearts.
"But Patriarch. We really need to be..."
"Enough." Elder Cassius cut him off. "If the Patriarch says he knows all, what else are you afraid of? Stop being cowardly adults."
The other Elders imdiately fell silent, unable to refute him. Seeing that, the Patriarch decided to call off the eting.
"Elder Cassius, please send servants to fetch Seraph and Ariana." He said after all the other elders had left.
The man nodded, then left the eting room.
Patriarch Gon didn’t have to wait for too long. In less than fifteen minutes, both parties appeared in the room.
Seraph was already eleven years old, with his handso face already capable of charming won.
Ariana had also turned ten. Although she was shorter and looked more like a young girl, she had a peculiar sharpness to her gaze.
’When did she get this? Ah... it must be after training with Seraph.’
Staring at his daughter with a bitter smile, Patriarch Gon spoke.
"You both are already of age. And your only options to grow would be joining a sect."
Seraph nodded, his gaze fixed on the puzzle cube before him. He repeatedly assembled and disassembled, trying to morize the solution unconsciously.
Beside him, Ariana fidgeted. She took several discreet glances at him, then at what he was doing. It was obvious she was getting distracted.
"Ariana, did you hear what I said just now?" Patriarch Gon asked sternly.
Imdiately, the girl stiffened. She chanically turned her head to him, making a cute, pitiful expression.
However, Patriarch Gon didn’t fall for it. He tapped the table twice.
"You better listen to
or you’ll be under detention for two days. No objections."
The girls expression turned ugly, but she finally paid attention to him. Patriarch Gon turned to Seraph, his eyes narrowed.
"Boy, what sect do you want to go?"
Seraph paused instantly, letting the silence stretch. He raised his head and looked at the Patriarch with his rainbow eyes.
"I decided to choose the Soul Cross Sect."
Patriarch Gon nodded, unsurprised. That was the best option for Seraph at the mont. Since it was already proven that Seraph could use different elents, he needed a place to access several high-level skills of different elents.
After learning the water and wind skills Patriarch Gon had given him, Seraph refused to learn any other skill since then. Although his reasons remained unknown, no one questioned him.
’Also, one of our clansn is there as an Outer Court disciple. This should really help.’
He turned to Ariana, who still had a sulking expression on her face. "What about you? Soul Cross too?"
The silver-haired girl nodded. "I want to et Senior Brother Rael over there too."
The Patriarch humd, though he seriously doubted that was her main reason. "Alright. The Yearly Discipleship Examination would be coming up soon, and I would want you to be at your best."
"Prepare yourselves, you’ll be leaving clan with Elder Cassius in a few days."
Seraph nodded, then stood up and left. Ariana imdiately chased after him.
"Wait! I thought you were going to choose the Wolham Sect?"
Seraph paused, turning to look at her in surprise. "How did you know?"
The girl crossed her arms and huffed. "What do you know? I can predict a lot of things."
Seraph smiled lightly, tugging at her cheeks playfully. "Alright. I did indeed change my mind at that mont."
"What? Why?" Ariana blinked in confusion.
"Nothing," Seraph shrugged. "Maybe intuition."
Smiling mysteriously, he turned around and left the Clan Manor. He returned to his house, where he t his sister and mother cooking in the kitchen.
His father had just returned from a business trip so he was utterly spent and had to rest.
’Such a normal family...’
Seraph smiled, though it looked forced.
"What’s wrong, Seraph? You seem down." Yelena noticed him and ca over, drying her hands with a towel.
Seraph sat at the table, sighing tiredly. "I’ll be joining a sect soon—which ans I’ll be leaving you guys."
As much as he was surprised to know, he had gotten attached to this family. He couldn’t clearly rember his parents on Earth, so his full attachnt was given to this small family that raised him.
Kara overhead them and ca out of the kitchen. She hugged Seraph’s head from behind, gently caressing his hair.
"You don’t need to be sad, my boy. Hm? This is only temporary. I’m sure you’ll co visit us whenever you can, right?"
The boy nodded, a sigh escaping his lips. "Of course, I will."
Yelena also tapped his shoulder playfully. "Bring sothing nice for
whenever you’re returning. After all, you’re the pride of the family."
No ordinary family in the clan could boast of producing a Sect disciple in their entire history. Although Seraph hadn’t even taken the entrance exam yet, they were sure he would be accepted.
The Skye family was very proud to have Seraph, as they could easily brag to the other households when he passes the entrance examinations.
"Oops! The food is getting burnt."
Panicking slightly, Yelena and her mother rushed back to the kitchen. At that mont, Clem Skye woke up from his sleep and ca out of the master bedroom.
"Seraph." He said calmly. "I overheard your talk. When will you be leaving?"
Seraph replied without turning. "In a few days."
"Good." The man sat opposite him, his gaze gentle. "This is the ti for you to grow, Seraph. It is the ti for you to explore the world, find a aning to yourself."
"Son, this... is a growth phase."
