Wen Jiang was preparing to leave.
The other woman, clearly not wanting to lose face, said with a tense expression, "Helena, do you really intend to oppose the ch King on your first visit to Ceylon City?"
Ceylon City was a place where the law of the jungle was thoroughly enforced. There was no compassion for the weak here, only the ceaseless oppression by the strong. Therefore, their personalities and thods were brutally straightforward.
Helena’s refusal to show the ch King deference ant she was taking an oppositional stance. Such a threat was not beyond what Wen Jiang had expected.
Wen Jiang turned her head, lifting an eyelid slightly. "What, are you going to kill ?"
After saying this, she turned and walked away.
The woman was left staring at Wen Jiang’s retreating figure. Since they were on a public street, a key area for Spirit Card Masters, she didn’t make a move directly.
*
The ch King’s people wouldn’t be foolish enough to directly trouble Wen Jiang. After all, both she and the ch King were Card Makers for the Sixth Division. They were both valuable assets. If the ch King were foolish enough to lay a hand on Wen Jiang, it would an directly offending the Sixth Division.
But they could still employ so underhanded tactics.
Ceylon City would turn a blind eye. For the ti being, the ch King was still the Sixth Division’s cash cow, and his status needed to be maintained. Even if Helena was a new Spirit Card Master who had achieved good results, if she didn’t know how to be humble and low-key, they would target the people around her. This would make her realize that even Spirit Card Masters had ranks in Ceylon City.
So, they found Sa Ang.
Sa Ang was at the hospital caring for his brother. His brother had contracted a very strange illness, remaining unconscious for long periods and extrely weak. He needed constant nutrient solutions in the hospital, which was the main reason Sa Ang was so overwheld.
He was gulping down food from his lunch box when soone kicked the door open. He didn’t need them to say anything; he imdiately knew the visitors ant trouble.
"Sa Ang?"
The man who entered was short and skinny, with a weaselly face. There was a shrewd, vicious edge to his deanor that made one feel as if they were being sized up by a rat.
Sa Ang’s nerves instantly tightened.
He knew this person—Plague. It was an unsettlingly inauspicious na, his codena.
He was one of the ch King’s n, a B-Level Spirit Card Master who excelled at flattery and carried out tasks with brutal efficiency. As such, he was highly regarded by the ch King.
Although Sa Ang was also a B-Level Spirit Card Master and wouldn’t necessarily lose to him in a fight, he couldn’t attack Plague, who was one of the ch King’s underlings.
Sa Ang put down his lunch box. His body tensed like a young wolf cub as he watched Plague, subconsciously positioning himself to guard his brother’s hospital bed. "Plague, what do you want with ?"
Plague glanced at the person on the hospital bed and sneered. "Sa Ang, you’re lucky to have caught a sponsor’s eye. Unfortunately, your sponsor is quite clueless, choosing to cross my boss. I’m here today to advise you to be sensible and give up that chanical Angel card. Otherwise, while your brother can stay in the hospital for now, it’s hard to say what will happen to him in the future."
This blatant threat made Sa Ang’s eyes redden. "You want to make sure no one in Ceylon City dares use her card? Plague, you’re not an idiot. Don’t you know that even if nobody uses her good cards, her cards will still be popular?"
Plague was displeased by Sa Ang’s words. He suddenly lunged forward. His slender, sharp hand, truly resembling an animal’s claw, clamped onto Sa Ang’s neck. His voice was malicious. "You don’t need to worry about what our boss decides. When Immortals fight, mortals suffer. As a B-Level Spirit Card Master, do you really think you have the right to get involved in the affairs of an A-Level Spirit Card Master?"
"Fought a few tis in the arena, and now you think you’re sobody? If you obey, with just a word from my boss, will you still have to worry about your brother’s hospital bills for the rest of his life?"
It was blatant enticent.
Sa Ang’s eyes turned bloodshot, almost bulging out as he was choked.
But he clenched his teeth, not saying a word, just glaring at Plague.
The offer was tempting, but Sa Ang knew that if he hadn’t, by so fluke, caught Helena’s attention, soone like the ch King wouldn’t have given him a second glance.
What bargaining chip did he have?As soon as he agreed, the ch King could go back on his word with a single sentence. Did he really expect the Spirit Card Masters of Ceylon City to keep their promises?
Besides, it was Helena who had given him a chance in the arena; otherwise, he and his brother would already be dead.
All he had to do was bow his head to be spared, but he couldn’t do it.
So he remained silent.
Plague sneered, "Aren’t you a tough one? What’s the use of being stubborn against us in Ceylon City?"
As soon as he finished speaking, Plague suddenly summoned a longsword Card Spirit. With a fierce swing, its tip slashed down towards Sa Ang’s arm.
Sa Ang’s pupils constricted. He imdiately summoned the chanical Angel. BANG—
The sword tip struck the chanical Angel as it materialized. The Card Spirit faltered, the blow not having been blocked by the chanical Angel’s card. Sa Ang felt dizzy. Plague hesitated for a mont, giving Sa Ang the chance to break free from his grasp.
Plague knew the chanical Angel card was trendously powerful. With two Card Spirits now materialized in the small hospital room, the space felt cramped and oppressive.
Plague’s voice was laced with venom. "Sa Ang, opposing the ch King? You really must have a death wish!"
"You try to slash with a sword, and I’m not allowed to fight back?" Sa Ang glared back just as fiercely. "You ca looking for today; do you think you can just walk out of here?"
With that, he maneuvered the chanical Angel to block the doorway.
Plague wasn’t afraid. Instead, he mocked Sa Ang’s naivety. "Do you really think I can’t beat you? Or perhaps you dare to make a move, not caring at all about your brother’s life?"
Where would Sa Ang find such courage?
Sa Ang indeed didn’t dare to make a move. For a mont, he seed to freeze.
He had thoroughly offended the ch King today. Letting Plague go ant his own downfall was predictable. But if he didn’t let him go, even if he poured all his strength into killing Plague here, what then?
At that mont, Sa Ang finally tasted the despair of the downtrodden in Ceylon City. Even as a Spirit Card Master, offending these people left him with no way out.
He didn’t consider blaming Helena. From the mont of his defeat in the arena, the fact that he and his brother could still be here was already borrowed ti.
Seeing Sa Ang motionless, his youthful face vigilant yet conflicted, Plague noted his inexperience with the world; he clearly had no better solution.
Plague let out a harsh laugh. "You see, Sa Ang? What good can co from opposing the ch King? A mont ago, you had a chance to change your mind. Unfortunately, that chance is gone."
"Sa Ang, if you had chosen to fight, perhaps I would have respected you more—even if it was foolish and oblivious, all for an outsider Spirit Card Master."
Just as his words fell, a clear female voice suddenly spoke from behind.
"He doesn’t dare to act? I dare."
