Chapter 218: Chapter 218 Everything Hurts So Much
SOPHIA’S POV
The moment the words left my mouth, the atmosphere inside the hospital room changed completely.
“You don’t need to stay here all the time.”
The warmth that had existed moments ago disappeared so quickly that even my wolf became tense again inside me.
The playful energy from Ken and Patricia faded little by little when they heard the words.
I could literally feel Zade staring at me without blinking, and the pressure of his Alpha presence slowly filled the room again.
For a few seconds, nobody spoke.
Bianca looked between us like she instantly realized she had walked into something complicated. Patricia’s smile disappeared completely too. Even Ken, who usually joked through every awkward moment, suddenly became quiet for once.
Zade finally spoke. “You want me to leave?”
His voice sounded calm, but I knew him enough already to hear how frustrated he was. His wolf was angry. I could feel it strongly now.
I forced myself not to look away.
“Yes.”
My wolf whimpered painfully inside me the second I answered. She hated pushing him away when every instinct inside her wanted to stay close to him. But the memory of Tiffany standing beside him in the garden came rushing back into my mind again.
Immediately, my chest went tight painfully again.
Zade’s eyes narrowed “Sophia.”
“No,” I cut in. “You’ve already done enough.”
His jaw tightened instantly. I saw the muscle tick near his cheek. My
“You have a fever,” he said carefully. “You’re still sick.”
“And?” I asked coldly.
“What happened last night-”
“Didn’t count.”
The room became deathly silent.
Even Patricia looked shocked by how direct I sounded. Ken stared at me with wide eyes while Bianca remained very still beside the table. But I couldn’t stop anymore.
If I stopped now, I knew I would weaken again the second Zade looked at me softly.
My wolf was already struggling badly. She wanted him near us. She wanted his scent, wanted his touch. And I hated it.
Zade stared at me like he couldn’t believe what he was hearing. “Didn’t count?”
I swallowed hard, forcing myself to stay cold even when my chest was burning painfully. “Zade, you can leave”
I looked directly into his eyes. “Whatever happened last night happened because I was sick. That’s all.”
For the first time since I met him, I saw genuine hurt in his eyes.
My chest ached so badly that I almost looked away, but then my wolf suddenly growled softly inside me. She was hurting too.
Because despite everything, she could feel his pain clearly through the bond between us.
And that only made me angrier.
Why was I the one suffering when he was the one who hurt me first?
Zade took one slow step closer to my bed. “Sophia, look at me carefully and say you meant nothing by what happened.”
My heartbeat immediately spiked.
I clenched my hands tightly against the blanket. “I don’t want to talk about this anymore.”
“But I do.”
His voice came out firmer this time. The room felt suffocating again.
Ken awkwardly cleared his throat. “Maybe we should all calm down first-”
“No,” Zade said without looking away from me.
His eyes stayed locked on mine completely. That intensity nearly broke my coldness, nearly.
I forced myself to look colder. “Why are you even refusing to leave?”
His brows furrowed slightly like the answer should have been obvious.
“Because you’re sick.”
“I’m getting better.”
“You almost collapsed yesterday.”
“I’m alive.”
“And stubborn.”
His voice sounded frustration now, but I could still hear the concern in his voice.
I laughed bitterly “You suddenly care a lot.”
He frowned. “What exactly is that supposed to mean?”
I looked away from him before answering because I knew if I kept staring at him, my strength would disappear completely.
“It means you should go back to Tiffany.” I said.
The second her name left my mouth, the room froze again.
Patricia’s eyes widened.
Ken muttered quietly, “Oh boy.”
Bianca looked confused immediately. Meanwhile, Zade became completely still.
“Tiffany?” Bianca repeated.
I ignored her.
Zade stared at me in disbelief. “This is about Tiffany?”
I laughed bitterly. “Shouldn’t it be?”
His expression darkened immediately. “You’re seriously doing this right now?”
“I saw her with you.”
“She came to talk to me.”
“At night? Alone, in the garden.”
His jaw tightened harder. “She approached me.”
“But you stayed.”
“I was trying to end the conversation.”
My wolf hesitated painfully inside me because she could feel honesty coming from him. That only frustrated me more. Why couldn’t things just be simple?
“Do you think I’m stupid?” I asked quietly.
“No,” he answered immediately. “I think you’re hurt.”
That response almost shattered me....almost.
But then the image of Tiffany touching his arm flashed through my mind again, and the pain came rushing back stronger than before.
I pushed the blanket away from my body angrily and slowly stood up from the bed. Immediately, Zade moved toward me.
“Sit back down.” He said.
“I’m fine.” I snapped at him.
“You’re still weak.”
“I said I’m fine.”
The sudden movement made dizziness hit me instantly, but I forced myself to stay standing. My wolf whimpered because my body was still exhausted from the fever.
Zade reached toward me automatically. “Sophia-”
I stepped away before he could touch me.
The hurt in his eyes deepened immediately. That hurt something inside me too, but I ignored it.
“You don’t get to act protective now,” I said quietly.
His voice dropped dangerously low. “What exactly are you trying to do?”
“Nothing.”
“You’re pushing me away on purpose.”
I crossed my arms tightly against myself. “Maybe because I want distance.”
“No,” he said immediately. “You don’t.”
“You don’t get to decide what I want!”
The room fell silent again after my outburst.
My breathing became shaky instantly. My wolf was becoming distressed too because emotions were hitting us too fast now.
I shook my head “I can’t do this.”
Zade frowned “Do what?”
“This.” I gestured between us. “Whatever this is.”
His eyes went wide “You don’t mean that.”
Before I could stop myself, the words came out.
“I’m going to see Damien soon.”
The effect was instant. The entire room went cold.
Zade’s eyes went dark in a way that frightened me. His wolf moved forward violently beneath his skin. Even my own wolf became alarmed.
What I saw in his eyes was jealousy, pure Alpha jealousy.
“What did you just say?” he asked quietly.
I forced myself to keep going even though my heart was racing hard now. “Damien has been kinder to me than you lately. At least he doesn’t confuse me.”
Zade laughed. It didn’t have humour in it at all. It was a cold, dangerous laugh that sent chills down my spine.
“You’re trying to provoke me.” he said.
I frowned “No. Not everything is about you”
His eyes burned fiercely into mine. “You think I’ll let you run to Damien?”
“I’m not yours.” I snapped back.
The words hit harder than I expected, because my wolf cried out painfully the second I said them. And I hated it.
“You and I have nothing to do with each other.” I said.
Zade looked genuinely stunned now. He didn’t look angry. He looked stunned, like those words had actually wounded him deeply.
For a second, guilt nearly swallowed me whole, but then I remembered how humiliated I felt seeing Tiffany beside him.
I remembered how abandoned I felt and my chest hardened again.
“I think you should leave now,” I said quietly.
Nobody moved. The room felt unbearably tense.
Ken finally stood up carefully. “Sophia, maybe you misunderstood some things. Zade really-”
“Ken.” Zade’s voice stopped him immediately.
But I shook my head.
“No,” I said quietly. “Don’t explain anything to me.”
Ken looked frustrated. “Sophia, listen-”
“I said don’t.” I said.
The room became silent again.
I looked toward Bianca instead because I couldn’t keep staring at Zade anymore. If I did, I was afraid I would break down completely right there.
“Can you take me outside for some air?” I asked softly.
Bianca nodded. “Of course.”
Zade stepped forward instantly. “You shouldn’t be walking around yet.”
“I’ll survive.”
“Sophia.”
I ignored him completely. That hurt him. I could feel it.
My wolf felt it too, and her sadness became almost unbearable inside me. But I kept walking anyway.
Bianca carefully grabbed my arm to support me while we headed toward the door. My body still felt weak and shaky from the fever, but right now emotional pain hurt far worse than physical weakness.
Before leaving, I stopped briefly without turning around.
“You should stop staying beside me like last night meant something,” I said quietly. “It didn’t.”
The silence behind me became suffocating. Then I walked out.
The hallway outside felt colder immediately.
My breathing became uneven the farther we moved away from the ward. Bianca stayed quiet beside me. she didn’t ask me any questions yet.
Meanwhile, my wolf was in agony.
She kept pulling emotionally toward Zade behind us. She wanted to go back. She wanted his scent and his warmth, but she was hurting too.
“I hate this,” I whispered weakly.
Bianca looked at me “Sophia...”
“I hate him,” I muttered.
But even saying it sounded false, because I didn’t hate him.
That was the problem.
We reached the hospital garden outside. The second we stepped fully outside, my strength completely collapsed.
The emotions I had been forcing down finally broke apart all at once.
My knees weakened instantly.
Bianca grabbed me quickly before I could fall completely.
And suddenly, I started crying. My entire body shook violently against Bianca as everything I’d been holding inside finally came pouring out. My wolf cried with me too.
“I don’t know what to do,” I sobbed into Bianca’s shoulder.
Bianca immediately wrapped both arms tightly around me.
“It hurts,” I cried helplessly. “Everything hurts so much.”
