Chapter 217: Chapter 217 Bullying A Patient
SOPHIA’S POV
The hospital room finally felt less suffocating that afternoon.
The fever in my body had reduced a little, though my limbs still felt weak and heavy. My wolf was calmer now too. She was no longer whimpering painfully inside me the way she had all night.
Still, she remained sensitive....especially whenever Zade came near me.
My wolf didn’t know whether to trust him or stay angry at him.
Every time I remembered what I saw in the garden with Tiffany, she became restless again. Yet every time Zade looked at me with those intense eyes of his, my wolf softened.
I hated how confused I felt.
Patricia sat beside the window peeling apples while humming quietly. She looked much more relaxed today after seeing my condition improve slightly.
Earlier that morning, she had practically forced me to eat breakfast while lecturing me like a child.
“You’re a doctor yourself,” she had scolded. “Yet you’re worse than normal patients.”
I had laughed at that.
For the first time in days, the atmosphere almost felt peaceful. Then suddenly, the ward door burst open dramatically.
“Sophia!” Ken’s loud voice filled the room immediately.
I blinked in surprise before turning toward the door.
Ken walked inside carrying several large dessert boxes in both hands while grinning brightly. Behind him, two nurses stared at him shyly from the hallway.
I wasn’t surprised. Girls admired how handsome he was.
My wolf instantly recognized him and relaxed slightly.
Ken always carried a cheerful energy around him that made people feel less tense.
“You brought half a bakery?” Patricia asked dryly.
Ken placed the boxes dramatically onto the table.
“Correction,” he said proudly, “the best bakery in the city.”
Patricia burst out laughing. I couldn’t help smiling slightly too.
Ken immediately noticed and pointed at me triumphantly. “See? I made her smile before either of you managed to.”
Before I could answer, another voice spoke coldly from nearby.
“Not difficult,” Zade said calmly from the sofa.
I turned.
He’d been sitting quietly in the corner of the room working on documents earlier, but the moment Ken entered, all of his attention shifted toward him immediately or more specifically...toward me.
Zade’s eyes stayed fixed on me almost the entire time Ken spoke. His wolf clearly disliked how easily Ken was making me laugh.
Ken noticed too. And naturally, he became even more annoying on purpose.
“Patricia,” Ken said dramatically while opening one dessert box, “look at this masterpiece.”
Patricia gasped dramatically “Oh my.”
Inside the box were beautifully decorated strawberry cakes shaped like tiny moons.
Even I looked surprised.
Ken smirked proudly. “I waited forty minutes for these.”
“You?” Patricia laughed. “You waiting in line? Impossible.”
Ken pressed a hand against his chest. “Painful accusation.”
I laughed softly again before quickly stopping myself. Because the moment I smiled, I could literally feel Zade staring harder at me.
My wolf immediately noticed too.
She shifted uneasily inside me. she was torn between her anger and the strong pull toward his presence. Zade’s scent filled the room strongly today,, making my wolf more sensitive than usual.
I hated how aware I was of him, even when I tried to ignore him.
Ken handed me a small dessert carefully. “Here.”
I hesitated “I’m still sick.”
“Exactly why you need sugar.”
Patricia nodded “He’s right.”
I sighed and accepted it.
The moment I took a bite, Ken grinned proudly. “Good, right?”
“It’s good,” I admitted with a nod.
Ken looked smug. Zade suddenly stood up from the sofa.
“I’ll make tea,” he said calmly.
Patricia immediately exchanged a look with Ken. Even I noticed it.
Zade was clearly annoyed. And strangely enough...that realization made my wolf feel satisfied.
A few minutes later, the room became much livelier.
Ken and Patricia talked nonstop while eating desserts together. Patricia laughed harder than I had seen in days, while Ken shamelessly flirted with every nurse passing by the door.
“You’re hopeless,” Patricia told him.
Ken pointed at himself proudly. “Yet lovable.”
Zade returned with tea and placed a cup carefully beside me.
“Careful,” he said quietly. “It’s hot.”
His voice softened automatically whenever he spoke to me.
My chest went warm but then I remembered Tiffany’s perfume from last night.
Immediately, my expression turned cold again.
“Thank you,” I said politely, too politely.
Zade noticed instantly.
My wolf sensed his frustration immediately.
Ken looked between us knowingly before suddenly clapping his hands.
“Let’s play something.”
Patricia raised an eyebrow. “What?”
“Gomoku.”
I blinked “Here?”
Ken immediately pulled a small folding board from one of the bags.
Patricia stared at him in disbelief. “You brought a board game to the hospital?”
Ken looked offended. “Of course.”
I laughed. Even Zade’s lips twitched a bit.
Soon, Patricia and Ken started arguing loudly about rules while setting up the board on the small hospital table. The entire room became noisy.
For a moment, I almost forgot everything painful.....almost.
Eventually, Ken insisted I play against him.
“You’re bullying a patient,” I complained weakly.
“Exactly,” he replied shamelessly.
I rolled my eyes and sat up slightly.
The moment I moved, Zade was immediately beside me adjusting the pillows behind my back carefully.
“You shouldn’t strain yourself,” he murmured.
“I’m only sitting.”
“You still look pale.”
His hand touched my shoulder while fixing the blanket around me. The closeness instantly made my heartbeat race.
My wolf reacted too. she was traitorously softening again. I quickly looked away.
The game started shortly afterward.
At first, Ken completely overwhelmed me.
“You’re terrible at this,” he teased.
“I know,” I muttered.
Patricia laughed loudly nearby. Then suddenly, Zade pulled a chair directly beside mine.
My wolf immediately became alert to his presence.
I could feel the heat radiating from his body beside me. I could smell his scent more clearly now.
“Move here,” he said quietly while pointing at the board.
Ken groaned dramatically. “Unfair. She has backup.”
Zade ignored him completely.
His shoulder brushed against mine as he leaned closer to study the board. One of his hands rested against the back of my chair behind me.
My wolf immediately noticed too.
She became strangely calmer. She felt soothed by the closeness of his Alpha presence. That only frustrated me more.
“You’re distracting me,” I muttered quietly.
“Good,” Zade replied calmly.
My breath caught.
Ken immediately gagged dramatically. “Disgusting, absolutely disgusting.”
Patricia laughed.
I felt my cheeks go hot.
Meanwhile, Zade looked completely relaxed for the first time since last night. His wolf clearly enjoyed being close to me again.
Every time I hesitated during the game, he leaned closer and guided me softly.
“No,” he murmured near my ear once. “Trap him here instead.”
His deep voice sent warmth down my spine immediately.
My wolf reacted strongly too. I hated it.
And yet... I didn’t move away either.
Eventually, thanks entirely to Zade’s help, I started winning.
Ken stared at the board in betrayal. “This is corruption.”
“You’re just bad,” Zade replied coldly.
“You literally played for her!”
“I improved her strategy.”
Ken looked at me sadly. “Sophia, your man is evil.”
I froze instantly. His words shocked me to my core.
What? Patricia also suddenly became quiet.
Even Zade’s looked at me to see my reaction.
Before anyone could speak further, there was a knock at the door.
Then the door slowly opened. A beautiful woman walked inside carrying several gift bags.
I blinked in surprise. It was Bianca.
“Bianca?” Patricia said excitedly.
Bianca smiled warmly. “I heard Sophia was hospitalized.”
She walked further inside before placing the gift bags down.
“Hey” I said weakly.
She smiled when she saw me “Hey girl. I brought supplements,”
The moment Ken saw her properly, he completely froze. I wasn’t exaggerating. His mouth parted in awe. His eyes went wide.
I stared at him in disbelief.
Ken Monroe? The shameless flirt who joked constantly was speechless.
Patricia immediately noticed too and almost burst out laughing.
Meanwhile, Bianca looked toward Ken curiously. “Oh?”
Ken stood up so quickly he nearly knocked over the chair.
“I’m Ken,” he said immediately.
Bianca blinked then smiled. “Bianca.”
My wolf instantly became amused for the first time in days. Even I almost laughed.
This would be....interesting.
Ken awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck. “Nice name.”
Patricia finally lost control and burst into loud laughter. I had to bite my lip to stop myself from laughing too.
Zade looked disgusted. “Pathetic.”
Ken ignored him completely while staring at Bianca like he had forgotten the entire room existed.
Bianca seemed entertained by his reaction too.
The atmosphere quickly became lively again because of Patricia teasing Ken nonstop. Even I found myself smiling several times while watching them.
But slowly, my attention drifted back toward Zade again.
He was watching me quietly, not Bianca, not Ken. His eyes were on just me.
The intensity in his eyes made my wolf restless again.
I quickly looked away first. My emotions were becoming too messy again.
And honestly... I was tired. I was tired of feeling confused every time he looked at me.
So while Patricia and Ken became distracted talking to Bianca, I finally took the opportunity to create distance again.
I slowly looked toward Zade.
“You’ve stayed here long enough already,” I said quietly.
Zade’s eyes went wide with surprise.
“You probably have other things to handle,” I added softly. “You don’t need to stay here all the time.”
My wolf whimpered inside me the moment the words left my mouth.
Because despite saying them...a part of me didn’t actually want him to leave.
