The short-statured general’s eyes flickered: "So people will definitely pay the price for this."

The two generals exchanged a glance and said nothing more.

*

Another hidden corner in Eastern City.

A man lay with his upper body exposed on a crude low table, gasping like a dying fish.

Due to the indoor temperature not being high, around four or five degrees, he was shivering uncontrollably.

Judging from his slightly darker skin tone, this person was obviously a Shapudian native.

This guy had just gone through a water torture session.

The ntal anguish brought by this punishnt far surpassed the physical pain, often leaving the victim with extrely severe psychological trauma.

"Li Kang, no, perhaps I should call you ’Lada’, because you probably prefer your real na."

A Great Xia person, with the rank of Captain, held a hose, speaking in a calm manner.

The native lying on the low table, Lada, shuddered several tis at these words.

He turned his head to look at the hose in the Captain’s hand, his eyes filled with intense fear.

Such an unassuming object had just brought unimaginable pain to Lada.

The Captain sighed: "I really don’t understand, Great Xia provides you with food, dical care, and security guarantees. Without Great Xia, you would have died long ago.

"We are willing to trust you, appointed you as the head of intelligence in Lap Province. Why do you deliberately hide the true situation of Lap Province from us, even fabricating false information?"

Great Xia had taken over Shapudian just over a year ago, and Shapudian had more than 800,000 square kiloters and millions of people. Great Xia was not familiar with Shapudian’s situation and had to appoint a large number of natives, not expecting such a big mistake here.

Lada, upon hearing this, suddenly lost the fear in his eyes, replaced by a kind of fanaticism.

With a tone of hatred, this guy said: "You’ll never swallow Shapudian. The Great Sharpyan Empire will definitely be realized!"

The Captain, finding it incredible, looked at Lada as if he were watching a lunatic: "What era was your Great Sharpyan Empire?"

He paused and then said scornfully: "Even the most powerful empire you ever established was soundly defeated by the not-so-powerful Central Plains Dynasty."

Lada stared at the Captain with gritted teeth, cursing: "Damn Great Xia people, curse you to all die."

If looks could kill, the Captain would have been cut into a thousand pieces.

The Captain couldn’t help but shake his head.

He found it increasingly hard to understand; now that it was the Age of Calamity, without Great Xia’s intervention, Shapudian would have long collapsed, at least half of the Shapudian People would have starved or frozen to death. Why do so people keep thinking about the Great Sharpyan Empire?

Mad idiot!

The Captain dropped the hose and gave up continuing with water torture, turning around and shouting: "Bring the ’Mind Reader’ over, let’s directly extract information from the brain."

"Yes!"

A soldier responded.

The so-called "Mind Reader" was one of the many outcos of Great Xia’s recent technological explosion.

The side effects of this thing were not mild; at best, the brain would be injured, at worst, beco an idiot.

Soon after.

A small cart was pushed over.

A silver tal box was placed on the cart, with many engravings on its surface, looking quite exquisite.

A silver helt was placed on top of the box, with many wires connecting the box and the helt.

The Captain didn’t waste words, directly gestured: "Begin."

A soldier picked up the helt and placed it roughly on Lada’s head.

Due to the rough action, the edge of the helt scraped across Lada’s cheek, leaving several bloody marks.

Lada realized sothing was wrong and struggled desperately: "What are you going to do?"

The Captain sneered, stepped forward, and swung a fist at Lada’s head: "Shut up and behave."

"Bang!"

The punch was very heavy, using a bit of Power technique.

Lada fainted without a sound.

Since this guy entered the interrogation room, he had no chance of leaving alive. Here, all legal or illegal thods were allowed to be used.

Another soldier silently started the Mind Reader.

"Buzz~"

With a slight tremor.

The patterns on the surface of the silver tal box imdiately lit up.

The Captain instantly felt a strange sensation, as if the tal box had co to life.

He blinked, and the sensation instantly disappeared.

As if it were just an illusion.

But the Captain believed it was definitely not an illusion.

Because this was not the first ti he had started the Mind Reader, and each ti he had the sa feeling.

A few seconds later.

"Ah~"

Lada suddenly let out a miserable wail.

The guy’s face beca extrely distorted, his eyes bulging so much that one had the feeling they might burst at any mont.

Without a doubt.

The process of the machine reading thoughts brought incredibly terrible pain to Lada.

After a few seconds.

Lada passed out.

Even though he lost consciousness, his body still twitched intermittently.

The Captain asked: "Any results?"

The soldier operating the machine, full of doubt, said: "It seems nothing was read. Could the machine be malfunctioning?"

The Captain found it hard to believe: "Impossible, right?"

He had experienced many interrogations and had never encountered such a situation.

Just then.

A flicker appeared mid-air.

A figure, shimring with fiery ripples, materialized out of thin air.

It was Yang Fan.

The Captain was stunned for a mont, first showing a look of disbelief, then quickly saluting: "Hello, Chief!"

Yang Fan looked around, instantly understanding the situation here.

He glanced at the Captain and said: "There’s no problem with the Mind Reader."

The Captain was bewildered.

To this officer, Mr. Ghost knowing their concern without having experienced the event was unbelievable.

Yang Fan took a closer look at Lada again, his expression sowhat solemn, and said: "Lada seems to have a Supernatural Power in his mind, preventing the machine from reading his mories."

The Captain was even more confused.

Yang Fan could now be sure that this force must be related to the Earth Spirit.

Originally, he thought dealing with just an Earth Spirit was a piece of cake.

But now, the more information he gathered, he suddenly realized this matter might not be so simple after all.

The Mind Reader was not ordinary Black Technology, containing a Level 3 Exotic Material. Even a Spiritual Elent Superpower User might not withstand its brain probing.

Great Xia had only manufactured ten Mind Readers, and the importance of Eastern City was so high that it was equipped with a set.

Lada was just an ordinary person, yet this force could protect his brain, which greatly exceeded his expectations.

Yang Fan thought for a mont, smiling, and said: "Folks, I might have to break soone out of prison."

The Captain could hardly believe his ears.

Great Xia’s Thirteenth Ruler, Mr. Ghost, intended to break soone out of the Military Intelligence Bureau of Eastern City?

Is it that I’m crazy, or is this world crazy?
