Capítulo 1145: Harsh Environnt
Vijudius stared at the ceiling like the secrets to existence itself were written upon it, lying upon a rather comfortable bed made using the wooly fur of a certain type of beast the elves here used as cattle.
It felt like you were being hugged by a warm cloud, which was important as contrary to what he had imagined, the elves of Wind-Swept Ravine actually lived in rather cold conditions, the underground was full of cold gust and subtle rain caused by certain plants and creatures who gathered moisture and released it every so often.
As such, despite technically living in a desert, the elves here had to deal with a rather insidious cold.
The young knight found this rather interesting…
“Where did this co from?” but he couldn’t distract himself for long, after all, what just happened was a bit hard to ignore.
Even if he–Happily–Went along with it, that did not change the fact that he was quite confused, from his perspective, things had gone from slight acquaintanceship to… Very intimate things in a matter of seconds.
He had co here expecting to be given so other, small bed on the ground, and instead, he ended up in Giliniel’s, and the beautiful elf, with her remarkably, enthrallingly muscular body was lying right next to him… Actually, it was even better than this, she was resting her head against his shoulder.
Her sandy-blonde hair had grown ssy, and her sandstone-yellow eyes were out of sight as her eyelids were shut.
Of course, Vijudius was more than just a little happy with how things had turned out, he just hadn’t seen it coming at all.
“What are you talking about, again? I didn’t expect you to be such a chatterbox whilst in bed…” spoke the elf as she slightly opened her eyes, a spectacle that the human was finding most enchanting, it was incredible, everything she did, he found beautiful.
“I an… I didn’t realise, at all, that this was how you felt, Giliniel… I never even realised we had gone past the initial stages of knowing one another!” he said, making her smile.
“Well, that’s because your dense”
“A dense skeleton and body is very important for a warrior…” he attempted to deflect.
“Why do you think I was spending all my ti with you? You should have realised that the reasons I was giving weren’t right… And also, do you really think I would always sit too close to you for any other reason that tries to give you a hint? I was literally brushing my ears against your face at one point…”
Well… Huh… Crap…” Vijudius stared back up at the ceiling, when said like this, it seed pretty damned obvious, but the knight had just been too convinced that elves and humans disliked one another too greatly to cooperate or… Love one another, so he had made up in his mind that anything odd Giliniel did was just caused by the clash between elvish and human culture.
But in hindsight, it seed pretty clear that an elf would not get so close to a human all the ti without a good reason.
‘I am stupid’
It would seem that he managed to misinterpret pretty obvious signs of interest, which must have been quite annoying for Giliniel since such things were sothing that she had to go out of her way to do, especially since for an elf like herself, communicating such a thing was supposed to be as easy as pie thanks to the links elvenkind shared to one another.
But apparently, she must have been quite interested not to give up midway in the face of Vijudius’s utter cluelessness.
Everything had eventually culminated into the current situation, the human wasn’t certain if now, as the entire elven domain was under threat and the human domain had surrendered, was really a good ti to be engaging in such activities, but at the mont, he didn’t question it much.
He just exhaled, and closed his eyes, letting sleep claim him…
The following week was quite idyllic, or hedonistic, so might say, but the peace eventually ca to an end as news of the dirt-blood army reached them, they weren’t marching toward the elven domain just yet, it was far worse.
They were multiplying at dreadful rates, it seed like the undeads were able to convince many n of the human domain to aid in the production of more dirt-bloods, how exactly, no one really knew, but seeing the sheer amount of monsters being produced, it had to be quite the enticing offer as the already enormous production further accelerated, reaching simply ridiculous levels.
Even the rarer, more powerful kinds of dirt-bloods were being gathered in droves, and that wasn’t all, they were getting to make use of the human domain’s tad dragons for themselves, and if this wasn’t enough, dirt-bloods were receiving lessons on manipulating fighting spirit and mana from the humans as well.
All of this was being done in the open, clearly, the enemy was actively showing off as an intimidation tactic, and it certainly was good intimidation, they were promising more dirt-bloods than ever, with greater ans than ever, and with greater strength than ever.
The monstrous kind was reaching the peak of its existence in real ti, and that abhorrent civilisation was going to throw its full weight at the elven domain soon, directed by their undead overlords to sacrifice their lives and fight without end.
For the upcoming months, this continued on, the enemy growing stronger by the day… Up until the order was given, and the dirt-bloods began their march, the vibrations of an uncountable amount of steps sent what felt like tremors rolling across the landscape.
When they arrived upon the desert where the ravine was situated, there was no need for any scouts, they simply heard them, felt them moving forward far before they actually got close…
Thankfully, the multiple months of downti didn’t just benefit the enemy, the elves got plenty of ti to prepare as well, and in the case of Wind-Swept Ravine, the mages of the region were able to perfectly seal the ravine and cover it up perfectly, making the area fade into the rest of the desert.
As such, when the dirt-bloods arrived, they were unable to find the correct area, to them, it was all just sand, scorching sunlight, and a handful of cacti.
Even if they were supposed to know where to go, without any clear landmark, it was very easy to get lost.
So elves of the region shared a strong connection to carrion birds that flew throughout the whole desert, and through them, they would directly observe the dirt-bloods, as expected, they were nurous beyond belief.
But there was a good thing, which was that the leader of this enormous army was not Litrakq.
Everyone had heard of how she had been the one to wreck havoc throughout the human domain, and also the one who had successfully captured the Mountain Jungle region, there was no dirt-blood more feared than her.
So it was a good thing that they didn’t have to deal with her, in comparison, the other dirt-blooded leaders were far less powerful and skilled at their job, so they hoped to be able to remain concealed for a long while…
Of course, the elves weren’t going to be passive even then.
Their connection to nature was to both the underground, and to the desert above, as such, the mages were able to do sothing similar to what those of the Mountain Jungle had done by manipulating the weather.
And that was by manifesting heatwaves and making the rays of the sun even harsher, effectively making the conditions for the dirt-bloods terrible.
It was also a good thing that very few monster species had been native to the desert, so the dirt-bloods, in turn, had a strong tendency to fall prey to the harsh elents here.
And the elven mages were relentless, they made sure that mages would always be present and capable of maintaining this dreadful environnt, therefore, ensuring that the dirt-bloods didn’t get any second of respite.
This strategy was efficient, but they had underestimated the determination of the dirt-blood leader, throughout the whole ordeal, he kept on leading his army, and by using so of the few mages he had available, he was eventually able to pinpoint the location of the ravine.
Marking the entry into the second stage of the defence plan of the elves, which was simply the durability of the cover that had been erected over the ravine, the region had enough mages to sustain both the constant heatwaves, and to place so toward reinforcing and repairing the seal.
Manifesting through the earth and sand magic, it was rather easy to maintain it for the local mages.
And now that the dirt-bloods were no longer moving around, the mages keeping up the pressure through manipulating the environntal effects began focusing all efforts directly on the dirt-bloods, before, they had to maintain it over larger areas due to the movents of the enemy, but now? The glove was off.
Unfortunately, not all regions had the sa ans and advantages as Wind-Swept Ravine…
