Capítulo 1144: Density

“I can’t believe it… What could have happened for the king to react this way?” Vijudius was more than just a little confused, all of a sudden, the war against the dirt-bloods ended, in the snap of a finger, all was over.

But that wasn’t exactly a good thing… The reason the war ended was a bizarre one, all of a sudden, it seed like the king decided that undeath was a superior form of existence, and began spreading the dogma of the so-called ‘Pale Lady’ throughout the entirety of the human domain, claiming that a peace agreent had been struck, and as such, the war was coming to a swift end.

The lost land and cities were even given back imdiately, it was like the entire thing had been rehearsed with one sudden and rapid everything moved, and the worst part was that the average person wasn’t questioning it.

They were more than content with this savage and destructive war that had costed countless lives to co to an end, and frankly, having to read books and listen to so preaching wasn’t a bad price at all, especially when many had felt like the war had been in the disfavour of the human domain.

As for the nobles… They were too anchored into the domain and to the king himself to say or do anything, so they followed his orders without question.

As such, in the young knight’s and well as the eyes of many others, it seed like the entire human domain had been conquered overnight, but they couldn’t wrap their head around how, they couldn’t imagine their king actually being defeated and replaced for this statent to be made, so it had to be their true king that had made this decision, which only made things more confusing…

As a consequence, Vijudius and many others fled alongside elves who had been stationed in the human domain into the elven domain instead, preparing to organise a great resistance.

The dirt-bloods were still nurous beyond belief, and their numbers were growing with every passing mont.

Soon, the entirety of the elven domain would be subrged by them, and it was clear to all that many regions would be lost in the monstrous flood, nerves were being tested, but the elves did not falter, preparing to throw everything they had at the dirt-bloods.

They weren’t like humans, their long lifespans and strong bodies allowed even the simplest of elves to be around for a long ti, so although they reproduced and developed at a much slower rate compared to humans, they still manage to grow their populations by simply not dying.

This also allowed every single region to have a sizable amount of powerful figures and mages at any given ti, especially since the more powerful elves, and those who could weave mana would live even longer than normal, resulting in a disproportionate amount of such individuals relative to population sizes.

Not to ntion, every region had its quirks, elves of each region were different from one another, each inherited certain characteristics from the environnt, making the mages and warriors unique, which made attacking one region completely different from attacking another.

And coincidentally, each region itself was completely different, so were definitely better equipped to deal with such a vast amount of enemies, but Vijudius only got to beco familiar with one of them, for he was taken to Giliniel’s region of birth, the Wind-Swept Ravine region.

Vijudius had never stepped into elven territory before, he had never left the human domain for that matter.

The sight before him was simply magical, the ravine in question was like a wound upon the area, inflicted by the blade of a giant, surrounding it was nothing but sand and a handful of cacti dispersed here and here.

The sand reflected the light from the sun harshly, resulting in a place that was far warr than anything else.

There were desert and desertic regions within the human domain, but the young knight had never gotten the occasion to visit them, so this was a first.

But what truly put lights in his eyes as though he was a child again, was the ravine itself, it was incredibly long and deep, but upon descending within, it revealed a sprawling underground city.

The ‘roads’ were just edges carved upon the sandy stone, the pathways thin and fragile-looking, one wrong step would be all that it took for soone to fall to the unknown depths of the ravine.

Habitations were nothing more than holes carved into the two opposing walls that stretched along the length of the ravine, the only door in use being dry-looking vines that grew naturally from the wall.

“These are just dried growths from a vine everyone keeps in their ho, it can absorb and capture moisture despite the environnt, ensuring that we always have water available” explained Giliniel as she saw the young knight staring in wonder.

“Is that so…”

“Hold on carefully, our thod of transport isn’t adapted to outsiders” the elven woman signalled for him to hold onto her, which Vijudius found to be a bit embarrassing, especially with the way his thoughts played tricks on him when it ca to Giliniel… But it turned out to be especially ridiculous from the outside as a full-grown man in a full set of plate armour was carried down into the ravine.

Indeed, due to their affinity with wind and their regions, elves of Wind-Swept Ravine used the winds to move around.

They used to go in and out of the ravines, as well as from one side to the other, they didn’t use bridges at all, which made for a rather dangerous-looking lifestyle, but apparently, they were so in-tune with their regions, that warm gusts of winds would co from the depths of the ravine to assist them if they ssed up.

And once Vijudius set foot upon the pathways, he realised that he had overestimated their sizes earlier, they were actually barely thin enough for a single person to stand upon, so he had to hold Giliniel’s hand the whole way like she was his mom.

And upon entering one of the holes in the wall, he realised that each individual wall wasn’t actually a singular habitation, but rely a path toward many more personal areas, and despite being away from sunlight, the area was not only luminous, but far greener as well, there was an entirely different bio beneath the desert, and this was where the elves actually lived, settling down in small cave abodes.

As a powerful warrior of the region, Giliniel actually had a rather large abode to herself, though it was quite empty…

‘I guess she doesn’t spend that much ti here? Or maybe it’s just an empty place for to stay in?’ he wondered in his mind, but the answer ca from the elf’s mouth quickly.

“That’s my place” she said, pulling on a vine, causing the entrance to be covered up by what looked like one large piece of animal fur.

“I see… And where am I supposed to stay?” he asked.

“You can just stay here with , there is plenty of space… Everyone is preparing for an attack soon, the mages are going to seal most of the entrance and only leave one, forcing the dirt-bloods to funnel themselves into a single area where they will be easy to deal with”

“So, if all goes relatively well, you probably won’t have much to do as everything will be done via bow and arrow… And we’ll probably be able to have rotations to rest as well” she explained, it wasn’t the whole strategy, as they were also going to remove the pathways entirely and even cover upon the entrance to the ravine entirely in an attempt to go unnoticed by the dirt-bloods.

In essence, the idea was that if the dirt-bloods found a way in, that it would be impossible for them to actually leverage their nurical advantages, turning them into nothing more than sacrifice for the depths of the ravine as their corpses would be falling down to the bottom.

Vijudius though, didn’t bother asking about the full strategy as sothing was sowhat bothering him… He couldn’t quite put his finger on it, but he felt that Giliniel wasn’t acting the sa way as usual, it was incredibly subtle, but there was sothing different.

“Hum… Are you alright, Giliniel? I hope having your region be under attack isn’t stressing you out too much… From the looks of it, the defences here are solid” he tried to reassure, but he elf just scratched her cheek.

“I am not worried about that, it’s just that… Well, don’t you wonder why I took you and only you back here?”

“Is it not because you can only carry a single person down here?”

“Don’t be silly, I could make back and forths if needed”

“Is it… Because the elves here don’t like humans in particular?”

“No, all elves dislike humans equally… It’s just that… Well, we fought side by side a lot, and we spent a lot of ti together as well, right?”

“Yes?”

The elf looked side to side.

“Oh screw subtlety, Vijudius, you don’t get it because you’re a human and don’t have the link, but I have been trying to hint at sothing”

“Which is?”

“I want you”

“Ah… Wait what?”
