62: Chapter 62: The Return of the Dragon God 62: Chapter 62: The Return of the Dragon God The Dragon-Slaying Greatsword was still as domineering as ever, with its dark and massive blade.
Simple yet formidable, it exuded a chilling murderous aura.
Just looking at the door-sized sword felt impressive.
Unfortunately, it required 50 strength points to wield, and Mo Fei, currently at level 1 with a strength of 11, couldn’t even lift it, let alone carry it.
With no choice, he could only drool as he stored it in his backpack for now, planning to boost his strength attributes later on.
For adventurers, a requirent of 50 strength points was astronomical, but it was less of an issue for heroes.
A hero gained five attribute points per level-up, and if all points were allocated to strength, only 11 levels would be needed to wield the sword.
Of course, doing so would leave the other attributes severely lacking.
This kind of skewed stat optimization generally wasn’t very rational, which is why Mo Fei had been reluctant to keep the sword at first.
He had intended to beco a dual-wielding swordsman, balancing offense and defense, nimble with both strength and agility, and able to switch to a shield for tanking when necessary.
Now, it sowhat felt like he had made a batch of dumplings just for a dish of vinegar.
However, the idea of being a greatsword-wielding brute was also appealing.
Mo Fei ca around to the thought, considering he would undoubtedly have to face bosses as the plot progressed, and a giant sword wielder’s execution power was clearly stronger.
As for survival, he believed he could make up for deficiencies with his skills.
Still, to be on the safe side, Mo Fei decided to level up a dozen or twenty levels first and then acquire so attribute-enhancing gear.
At the very least, he needed to build up his health and stamina to avoid being winded by a single sword strike.
By then, with the Dragon-Slaying Greatsword in hand, that little black dragon would be an easy take-down.
The second item was the Ancient Dragon Rock Statue.
Mo Fei took out the statue and examined it closely.
The quaint statue appeared unremarkable, as if it were just a common, crude stone carving, hardly fine craftsmanship.
Only the pair of dragon eyes seed to be inlaid with so kind of crystal.
However, Mo Fei knew that this simplistic exterior was rely a façade, or perhaps, for a treasure of such caliber, its own value was completely insignificant.
What truly mattered was the hidden information within.
Mo Fei carefully read the item description again.
[Ancient Dragon Rock Statue (Ancient Relic)
Plot Item: Unique.
Usage: Decipher the mysterious inscriptions on the statue to trigger a hidden plot quest.
Item Description: An ancient dragon rock carving, its exact age is unverifiable.
The ancient dragon is the mythical progenitor of the Dragon Race as per dragon mythology.
It is said that in the Dark Era at the dawn of the universe, the immortal ancient dragons once ruled the world.
However, with the fall of the Dragon God, the ancient dragons perished, and all legends have been lost to the river of history.]
There were also four lines of inscription at the base of the statue, written in the Dragon Language.
Back when Mo Fei was still the black dragon Morphis, he had translated those words and knew what the inscriptions said.
[Sky Haven, ancient dragon’s demise, deity’s doomsday, Dragon Delight vanished]
Since Prince Aidan would be the one taking on the quest, naturally, the inscription needed to be deciphered again.
What exactly does ‘decipher’ an in this context, though?
Is it as simple as reading the inscribed words out loud?
As Mo Fei pondered, he began to recite in front of the statue.
“Sky Haven, ancient dragon’s demise, deity’s doomsday, Dragon Delight vanished!”
Yet, the statue had no reaction.
Mo Fei frowned, puzzled.
Wasn’t deciphering the inscriptions supposed to trigger the quest?
He had read them aloud; what more did it want?
Did it require the reading to be in the Dragon Language?
This could be troubleso.
Of course, when he was Morphis, he knew the Dragon Language, but now with a new character, the skill for the Dragon Language was naturally gone.
Can humans even learn the Dragon Language?
He had not heard of such a precedent.
Was this a task item exclusive to the Dragon Race that only they could trigger?
If that was the case, it would be a real problem.
“`
Should I seek collaboration with Morphis?
That bastard’s attitude towards is sowhat subtle; it’s hard to say whether he would greet with friendliness or blast with a Dragon Breath upon eting.
Besides, with such a valuable item, what should I do if he becos greedy?
Mo Fei understood Morphis all too well, as after all, Morphis’s personality was endowed by him; he felt that Morphis would probably make a move when the ti ca.
No, that’s not right!
There must be another way.
Mo Fei racked his brain for a while and suddenly thought of one: language is essentially a form of knowledge, made up of sounds and script, and Dragon Language is no exception.
Back when I was a black dragon, I practiced Dragon Language and Ancient Dragon Language repeatedly.
I still rember so of the pronunciations and script, especially the four lines of inscription on it.
I had morized it very deeply at the ti, silently reciting it many tis over, and I still rember it now.
Why not just recite it directly?
The ga’s degree of freedom is so high; there’s no reason to set such a restriction.
Mo Fei distinguished the ancient Dragon Language on it carefully.
The dragon script, created by the dragons, is an alphabetical language that, due to the dragon’s physiological structure of their claws, consists solely of characters made from three strokes and a dot, totaling thirty-four letters.
The ancient Dragon Language script is not much different from the Dragon Language script; the biggest difference is the omission of all prepositions related to tense, as it seems the ancient dragons had no concept of ti.
Each letter has a unique pronunciation, when connected together they form words, similar to phonetics.
Due to the difference in vocal organs between dragons and humans, the Dragon Language sounded more forceful, deep, and thick, a result of physiological structure.
However, humans could still mimic it to a certain extent.
[Sky Haven, the ancient dragon’s sorrow, the deity’s doomsday, the vanishing of Dragon Delight]
lukesaienkelin, duwakeyinbuen, longgefalinsuen, lufalielufeien!
Mo Fei recited forcefully, his tongue nearly twisting, and managed to speak the passage out loud.
The statue’s eyes flashed once, then quickly dimd again, but Mo Fei was not in a hurry, as the direction was clearly correct; perhaps his Dragon Language was not standard enough!
He recited loudly, trying to lower his tone as much as possible.
Most of the Dragon Race have deep, bass voices, which is important to keep in mind.
The more he recited, the more fluent it beca, and the room filled with echoes of the Dragon Language.
Finally, on the seventeenth recitation of the secret phrase, the eyes of the ancient dragon statue in his hand suddenly lit up, and an invisible Power of Ti diffused instantly around, leaving Mo Fei in a trance, and in the next second, everything around him ca to a standstill.
Then it rapidly disintegrated and fell apart, turning to dust as if it had gone through thousands of years of decay and collapse.
When everything had faded away, he found himself standing in a city’s grand yet ruined square which seed to be situated above the sky, with the pitch-black firmant appearing almost within reach.
A massive storm surrounded the city, with scarlet lightning flickering within it, as if it possessed the power to tear everything apart.
The city’s towering structures had completely collapsed but still conveyed their forr grand and sacred essence—these buildings, both in size and design, did not seem to be constructed for humans.
Around the square were all traces of ruin and ancient tis, and a huge dragon stood right in front of him, its body resembling rock in substance, with a rustic texture as if it were an ancient statue standing for millions of years.
However, as Mo Fei looked at the rock dragon, it slowly lowered its head, and within its pitch-black pupils was a gold-colored hourglass-like iris, swirling with strange light—the only sign of life in this rock dragon.
A feeling of ancientness washed over him.
It’s the legendary Ancient Dragon!
Mo Fei thought excitedly.
He heard a voice echoing in his mind.
“A Mortal has co here?
Have those degenerate descendants all vanished?
Hmph, but it doesn’t matter anymore…
In the face of the eternal power, there are no differences among all of you.
Tell , human, do you seek eternal power?
Do you desire immortal life?
Do you aspire to find the lost power of the Deities?
Embark on the quest for Dragon Delight; those scattered powers of the world await their master.
Go to the site of Dragon Delight, offer your tribute, and continue the unfinished rite…”
As the last note ended, the surrounding city began to crumble rapidly; the ground collapsed, the sky tore apart, and Mo Fei felt as if he were in the midst of the universe’s doomsday, too shocked to utter a word.
As the city turned to dust, and the surrounding scenery disappeared.
Mo Fei stumbled; he found himself standing where he was, everything around him unchanged, except for the statue’s eyes emitting a golden light, as if made of grains of sand, penetrating the walls of the room and pointing towards the northwest.
It seed that this beam of light served as so sort of directional guidance; all he had to do was follow it.
