BANG!
The gunfire in the truck snapped everyone out of their senses, their eyes on their comrade in disbelief. Without taking another breath, everyone turned to who shot him.
"What the fuck—"
BANG!
Then, another gunshot echoed.
That second shot was more of a wake-up call, prompting a shootout between the three trucks ahead of them.
"Take them down!"
"Shoot them all down!"
Shouts and gunfire echoed in the trucks as bodies continued to fall off their vehicles one after another.
anwhile, the other vehicle behind these three turned sharply to the right. But even with that maneuver, it hit a flying body that fell off the trucks ahead of it.
"What the—"
SCREECH!
Hugo, who was driving the truck and leading the enemies on this road, perked up at the loud screech from behind him. Looking back for a second, all he saw was the sa body hitting the next vehicle’s windshield.
"I don’t know what’s going on over there," he breathed out, keeping his eyes locked ahead. "But they’re helping—sohow."
With that, Hugo watched the close-quarters battle inside the trucks as the people tried to kill each other. A few n in one truck tried to crawl their way into the truck’s cab, probably to take control of it.
Hugo didn’t bother shooting back at the n after him. Instead, he kept his focus on the bodies that could soon fall off the trucks.
When he spotted a close call, he abruptly turned and drove behind it. He maintained a safe distance, afraid they might accidentally kill him.
Just as he expected, one of the n was shot down and kicked off the truck.
As the body ca flying and rolling on the ground, Hugo abruptly switched lanes once more, avoiding it. The truck behind him, however, barely had ti to react, its back tire hitting the body, throwing it off balance into the other lane. It inevitably crashed against the other truck, the sides of their vehicles sparking as they both tried to stop themselves from spinning off the road.
But alas, the crash slowed them down until they simply stopped on the side of the road.
The last vehicle that was after Hugo’s managed to avoid the crash, still hot on Hugo’s tail.
Hugo glanced back again, but didn’t dwell on it as he eyed the broken side mirror. He quickly noticed that the last vehicle was driving in a different lane.
"That’s quick," he muttered, knowing the flying bodies were no longer going to work in his favor.
For a few seconds, Hugo just focused on driving and avoiding any other bodies that would co his way. The sa went for the vehicle after him. They didn’t open fire because, well, they’d just be wasting their ammo.
"Or..." Hugo arched a brow and studied the remaining people in the truck. Almost everyone in there was dead; both groups suffered heavy losses. But compared to that one truck, the rest had clearly lost almost everything.
"..." He went quiet for a second, thinking about it. "What if the reason those guys aren’t shooting is because they know the people ahead and don’t want friendly fire?"
The corners of his mouth hooked up, only to hear a sharp sound of a bullet hitting the back of the passenger seat. He jolted a bit, teeth clenched, glaring at the persistent people following behind him in the other lane.
"Those motherfu—"
BANG! BANG! BANG!
Much to his surprise, continuous shots were fired directly at the other vehicle. They fired at it so much that the windshield was nothing but a piece of cracked glass.
When Hugo turned his head ahead, all he saw were a few n still standing in every truck. The one in the middle (the sa guy who saved Mint) gazed at Hugo before he nodded. The latter then turned his head to his comrade, who managed to climb his way to the other truck.
With that, the trucks sohow drove close together.
Hugo watched as the other people in the other trucks climbed their way back to the middle. After that, both trucks on either side of it slowed down until the drivers of each truck carefully climbed out of it and onto the one in the middle.
However, neither driver jumped away imdiately. Instead, they kicked the steering wheel away, causing the truck to veer away from theirs and Hugo’s path.
The last vehicle that had been following Hugo couldn’t see with the broken windshield. Hence, it quickly crashed into the truck that was veering off the road, crumpling under it.
Hugo watched as the last vehicle was hit by the truck and was dragged along with it.
"..." He huffed, setting his eyes ahead on the last truck driving in front of him.
He didn’t know these people. They could be enemies, but they just helped him. Moreover, he watched how the fight unfolded in those trucks. Two of the trucks previously sandwiching the one in the middle were both firing shots at the people in there. However, as that was happening, a few n in those other two trucks were also shooting the sa people they were riding with.
So, those in the middle managed to climb their way to the other trucks at the brief mont their sides collided.
Considering how everyone acted and didn’t just pull the triggers randomly to kill, told Hugo one thing.
"I can’t trust them, but... they’re surely not in the sa group as those guys that have been following ," he whispered to himself. "They don’t just use guns to intimidate or kill; they were able to make it an extension of their bodies."
If there was anything he had noticed since fighting all the people the second he set his foot on this island, it was that they were nothing but monkeys given a gun to use. anwhile, those who erged victorious in the brief yet intense battle showed precision.
But as Hugo contemplated whether to ally with these n or just let them be as long as they didn’t bother him, he caught one of the n waving at him with both his hands.
Hugo’s brows knitted until he caught the man pointing in a direction. Shifting his eyes, his pupils contracted upon seeing a familiar face with them.
"Mint."
