Chapter 380: Central Plains Unification War ⑤ Second Battle of Zan Dora, Following the Scorching
After the dust settled from the destruction of the city walls by siege weapons, the enemy cavalry ca running through the hole.
I match them by charging on Schwartz with my longsword and shield readied.
Celia and the escort squad, Irijina, and Sekrit follow behind .

He swings his spear, and I correspondingly tighten my grip.

I flick my sword up, tossing the man off my sword and into the air, his body dancing around in midair until gravity brings it down onto the roof of a house.

「D-don’t falter, the enemy commander is right before you!」
As if inspiring themselves to keep going, the enemy soldiers move their frozen legs.
「The chief has shown us an example of what to do!」
「Follow his lead!」
Undaunted, the escort unit raise their voices and charge forward, turning the fight into an all-out lee.
「Teei!」
Gido blocks a strike and tangles his sword with his opponent’s, directing it away from his body before slashing the enemy’s exposed torso.
Gido has similar skills to Celia, except he has more strength, which allows him to be more forceful.
「Hnngah!!」
Mack swings his warhamr down.
The head of the enemy who attempted to take the blow with his shield is split open through his defense and then the soldier who twisted his body out of the way falls to the floor after his horse is clobbered to death.
His attacks rely purely on brute strength, though that is sufficient most of the ti.
Nevertheless, the one who was targeted the most is .
「Uooooh!!」
「Woah.」
I evade the enemy’s slash and whack his helt with my sword.
The impact made a satisfying crack sound and then his helt as well as his head splits in half cleanly.
That wasn’t accurate enough.
「Soryaa!」

I grab the spear heading for my body with my left hand, pull the soldier towards and then push my longsword through his throat.
The man squirts out blood like a geyser before falling off his horse.
That wasn’t fast enough.

I deflect a horizontal sweep aid at my head with my armguard, then return a slash of my own to him.
His cleanly decapitated head spins several tis in the air.
My hand doesn’t feel numb at all, aning that wasn’t strong enough at all.

It was a female cavalry who rushed in while shouting, except the timing of her attack didn’t match the timing of her charge.
Schwartz simply steps forward and tackles the horse she’s riding, easily knocking the opponent’s mount down and sending the woman flying into a house.
She didn’t have enough brains.
「I wonder what the next person will be lacking.」
I give a nacing glare to all those around , scaring off many of them into running towards the other escort squad mbers.

An enemy roars and rushes at Irijina, who barks back several tis louder.

Swift thrusts to Irijina’s chest and neck were easily brushed away by her spear.
「Hmp! Hm, hm, hm, hm!!」
Irijina’s counterattack began.
She unleashed a storm of thrusts to her enemy’s face, chest, throat and stomach. Not only were her attacks fast, her unimaginable strength for a woman broke the opponent’s stance everyti she was blocked.

The mont her opponent’s body swayed, Irijina ran her spear into the unguarded thigh of the enemy, which caused a natural curling up reaction.

Sekrit’s dual swords assault an enemy, giving no ti for him to rest.
The enemy desperately defends with a sword and shield, but he couldn’t keep up, getting his shield knocked away, dropping his sword, then having his right and left hand cut off, and finally being decapitated.
As usual, Sekrit is dismbering her opponents unnecessarily.

Both hands are needed to wield the longspears, so shields could not be used.

Her attacks would throw the opponent off balance if they were blocked or kill instantly otherwise, so the enemy had no choice but to be more careful.
As of this mont, her prowess is being demonstrated as a giant hatchet spins in the air, lops off the head of a shieldbearer and continues on to stab into the face of a spearn behind.

Irijina isn’t very skilled at throwing so she stands on the edge of the roof with her spear.

I hurl more items as I hear Celia and Irijina praise .
As more heavy objects fall from the sky, the enemy’s attention is focused more and more on the roofs, allowing the escort unit to fight more comfortably.

My downward swing carries my body closer to the ground and I spin once while squatting at the sa ti, feeling a slight wind blow above my head as a spear barely misses .
I utilize the centrifugal force from spinning and slice upward.
The fourth person’s right leg, a little above the ankle, and left leg below the thigh fall to the ground separated from his body.
「Sorah.」
I kick the shield of a fifth enemy to knock him over, then behead the sixth person.
My blade, again, cos back to slice off the head of the fifth person who fell on the ground.
「S-so stro――」
I thrust my sword through the throat of the seventh person before he could finish his comnt and then twist the blade to finish him off before pulling my sword out.
「Seven people in an instant...... demon......」
「He isn’t soone a human can match up against......」
The enemy steadily backs away.
Because a large space was created around , the escort unit in front was granted an even bigger advantage.
「It’s because all of you weren’t attacking in unison. He may be strong, but he only has two hands. Attack together!」
An unnecessary comnt was made by the enemy commander.
After looking at each other, enemy soldiers partially surround and agree on a timing to attack.

I lightly tap the heel of my boot against the ground.
The main road was nicely paved with stone, although the earlier scuffle damaged the surface enough for so stones to stick out unevenly.

The enemy soldiers charge forward all at once after the order was given.

I lower my hips and unleash a full-powered sweep.
Obviously, the enemy was wary of a slash from .

My attack crushed the paving violently, scattering sand and smaller rocks at the group of soldiers.

I work off the power from the first strike and spin, swinging my sword at the rearing enemies this ti.
I couldn’t tell if what I heard were voices or simply air being sucked in, I just know that I heard more than a few.
I felt so resistance on my sword too.
「......what is going on?」
「Hiiiih!!!」
The enemy commander mutters dumbfoundedly, then the female soldier accompanying him screams and falls over.
What they saw was a display of five standing corpses with only the portion of the body below the waist remaining.
A few seconds later, the upright corpses slowly fell forward, spilling guts everywhere.
My gaze shifts to the commander next.
Before the commander could move though, a dagger pierces his throat.

At the sa ti, a soldier trying to circle behind gets impaled by Irijina’s spear and then a crossbowman aiming at is hit in the chest by a shortsword thrown by Sekrit.
With that, my back is covered.
「The enemy has collapsed. Push, push――!」
Our interference bore fruit and the escort squad is now overcoming the enemy in front.
As if going against the current of a river, the enemy starts running away.
「Careful not to get entangled by the enemy and kill them.」

My longsword cuts down enemy soldier’s like grass, Celia’s sword swipes at the legs and necks of the enemies, and Irijina skewers the enemies with her spear.
Sekrit makes sure to finish off any fallen enemies.
「I won’t tell you to show rcy, but why do you have to cut them up starting from the legs? Please aim for their vitals.」
「They scream more that way, plus it’s fun.」
Her personality doesn’t seem curable.
When the enemy in front of us withdrew up until the area around the gate, a ssenger runs up to .

Celia grabs the ssenger by the collar.
Tristan is certainly overseeing the overall urban battle operation in Zan Dora, however I don’t rember giving him any instructions...... regardless, there isn’t any aning in strangling the ssenger and there isn’t any ti to complain.

I am not opposed to abandoning the main road we worked hard to protect.

Furthermore, the foundational pillars in the buildings at strategic points and high vantage points were cut so that the mont the enemy entered those locations they fought desperately to rob from us, the buildings would collapse onto and crush the poor enemy soldiers.

Everything is generally going as planned, except the enemy is still closing in on the central part of the city.

I don’t care what Tristan is complaining about, but I do think the number of siege weapons is problematic.
