As expected, Kelvin went quiet.
Smiling, Kelsie lowered her eyes to the moving box.
"I want just one thing from it. But I understand if you won’t let near the database. However, I promise you I will get my hands on it one way or another. Until then, look after yourself and continued being healthy."
This was her first ti referring to her mother. All these while, she acted like she didn’t know about her mother dying in this hospital.
Hearing it now, the man tightened his jaw.
Of course she was just like her mother. Scheming little wench.
He believed he could cripple her in the hospital and make it difficult for her to do anything. Never did he think she would voluntarily quit on her own.
Though she was leaving empty-handed, sothing about her voluntarily quitting scared him.
Kelsie didn’t bother with him any more and directly left the hospital.
She dropped by a supermarket on the way ho to get so things.
It was the middle of the day which ant most people were at work or school, hence, only a few people were shopping.
She first got so vegetables before moving to the canned foods’ section.
After shopping for a minute...
"I’m ashad on your behalf. You were a good girl. Now, you use an innocent man’s reputation against him just to to win?"
Kelsie would never mistake the owner of that spiteful voice.
Sighing inwardly, she continued shopping without turning to look at him.
Bryan Baker gritted his teeth and rushed toward her, stretching his hand to pull her with him when she suddenly moved away.
Holding up a can of beans, she huffed, "Don’t I have a restraining order against you, Mr. Baker?"
He hissed and stepped toward her again.
"So what? I’m no threat to you, so you have no reason to call the police."
Kelsie still didn’t pause look at him as she continued looking around for more things.
"The restraining order isn’t because you’re a threat to , it’s there so I don’t break your jaw the next ti you say sothing disrespectful about my children. It’s for your own sake."
At this, the corner of his lips curled up in sheer disdain.
"What nonsense are you spouting now? We’re the only ones in this section and my friend’s family owns this supermarket."
"Whatever happens here, I can always get them to delete the surveillance footage of it. So if I were you, I’d better be nice to ."
Kelsie simply ignored him and picked out more things before she turned around to leave.
Feeling insulted, he kicked down her basket and proceeded to stand in her way.
Her eyes dimd and she stared into his face coldly.
Sure enough, he reached out to grab her again, but she evaded it, grabbed the outstretched hand and slamd her foot into his chest.
He coughed and staggered backward in pain, frowning hard as his right hand pressed down against his aching chest.
Kelsie didn’t stop there. She bent over, picking up a can of beans which she threw at him.
He quickly shielded his face with his arm, but suddenly yelped as sothing hard slamd into the back of his leg, forcing him down on one knee.
Kelsie stood behind him, grabbed a fistful of his hair, and yanked his head upward.
"I don’t look like it, but I’m often bored. That’s why I started practicing different forms of martial arts."
"Why am I telling you this? That’s because the next ti you co up to like this, I will beat you up until you’re no longer recognizable."
"Why am I not doing it now? I’m actually really tired today. I only had three hours of sleep today. Or was it four? My brain’s lagging, so I don’t rember."
"But I’ve been working since morning, soone has tried to kill and I quit my job at the hospital. Right now, I really need to go ho to my children."
"Now, if my basket isn’t filled with the things I put in it earlier, I might change my mind and beat you up now."
The impatience in her voice and the grip he couldn’t break free from made him realize she wasn’t ssing around.
Without thinking twice, he bent forward to fill the basket again.
When he was done, he got up and handed it to her, his eyes lowered slightly.
But as she reached for it, his left hand curled into a tight fist, which he swung at her head.
She sidestepped his punch, grabbed his arm, twisted it behind his back, and swept his legs out from under him, slamming him to the ground.
She then squatted beside him, dropping her basket close to his head.
Bryan’s usually arrogant eyes trembled in disbelief, horrified that this petite woman had just thrown him to the floor in one sweep.
After the skill she just displayed, he was too paralyzed with fear to get up.
Poking his temple with a finger, she grimaced, "Your family’s influence can only take you so far. Whatever happens or however you feel, don’t let it bring you to my side because I promise; I will bury you."
Then she straightened up, lifted her basket and strutted out of the supermarket without sparing him another glance.
Fifteen minutes later, she got to the apartnt building.
Keira was surprised to hear the door open so early in the day and walked out wielding a baseball bat, ready to swing it at the intruder.
Naturally, she refrained from doing so when she saw her mother taking off her shoes.
"Mommy?"
Seeing the baseball bat, Kelsie raised a surprised brow, "Baby, were you going to hit if I was an intruder?"
"Mhm." The little girl nodded, lowering the bat.
Kelsie stared at her for a mont before she shrugged and walked toward the living room, advising, "That is good. Next ti, use the pan in the cupboard. When you hit, use the side not the back."
"If you use the back, they recover from it quickly, but the side stings for a while and gives you ti to run."
"Can I practice on my brothers’ legs?"
"Not a chance, honey. Only on an intruder or soone who’s trying to hurt you."
As they walked into the kitchen, the door to the triplets’ room swung open and Zade strolled out, eyes lowered to Keira’s phone.
"Keira, where are you?"
Because he wasn’t looking in front of him, he bumped into Kelsie, making the phone drop from his hand.
Feeling his temple, he frowned slightly, "When did you beco so... mommy!"
His dull eyes instantly brightened when he looked up to see Kelsie smiling down at him.
Glancing at the wall clock, he bead when he saw how early it was.
"Mommy, you’re back so soon. Did you quit your job?"
"Mommy quit her job?" Jesse’s head imdiate popped out of their room.
All three of her children followed her into the kitchen and sat around the island.
Watching her arrange the things she bought, Zade smiled in satisfaction.
"It’s high ti she quit. Daddy is a billionaire, why does she have to work when he has enough money to last us several generations?"
At this, Jesse turned to glare at his brother, "Zade, you disgust ."
"I do?" Zade was still smiling until the words made sense to him, "Wait, I disgust you? Mommy, look what Jesse said to !"
"That’s because you keep buttering up to that man, it’s disgusting!" Jesse gritted his teeth in defense.
"That’s because that man is daddy!"
"Daddy, my foot! You have no proof!"
"What other proof do I need when my brother looks just like him!"
Like the hundreds of tis Zade pulled this move, Jesse was rendered speechless.
Kelsie turned to them at this mont with a small frown.
"Where’s your nanny?"
The words had just left her mouth when the elderly woman walked into the kitchen cradling a laundry basket.
"Ma’am, you’re back. Jesse showed how to watch the house through an app on my phone so I watch them while doing anything."
Kelsie swallowed the question on the tip of her tongue and humd in understanding.
Then she turned and began taking out cooking materials.
At this, the nanny dropped the laundry basket and walked toward her.
"If you want to eat sothing, just tell what it is and I’ll make them."
Kelsie quickly refused, "You’re doing the laundry. Don’t worry, I’ll cook."
Jesse and Zade temporarily forget they were in an argunt and butted into the conversation.
"We will help nanny with the laundry. Just let her cook, mommy."
"Yes, she’s really good at it."
Kelsie was about to wave them off when she paused, turned to face them squarely and asked the obvious, "Are you... are you trying to say sothing about my food, my sweet sons?"
The boys didn’t think twice before shaking their heads in refusal.
However, their tactless sister, who had been engrossed in her ga all these while, heard her mother’s question and responded instead.
"Cooking isn’t your strong suit, mommy."
The elderly nanny didn’t know when she snorted out a laughter while her sons simply lowered their heads.
Usually, they’d co to her defense, but not when it concerned their als.
Humbled, Kelsie left the kitchen and went straight to bed.
Those little brats.
Forget it. She was too tired to cook anyway.
Pulling the duvet over her body, she turned to her side and closed her eyes, falling asleep almost imdiately.
When she opened her eyes again, Jesse was beside her, his ear pressed to her nose to hear if she was still breathing.
When he straightened up and saw her looking at him, he grinned widely and patted her face gently.
"Mommy, it’s 7am. Unlike when you were with that Adler man yesterday, you slept for 15 whole hours today. He’s clearly a bad influence, so stop hanging out with him, okay?"
