Jett watched the fluctuating emotions on her face in amusent then leaned forward to ask, "Do you like it?"
She paused, hurriedly swallowed the food in her mouth and reached for the bottle of water in front of her before replying distractedly, "It does taste nice. You’re doing well."
Jett chuckled softly, but nodded seriously, "I’ll continue trying my best. Eat up."
The hospital was pretty much silent the rest of the day with everyone gossiping about Kelsie where she wasn’t.
By a few minutes to 6, she was done with her scheduled surgery for the day and was checking out when Nurse Holly ca up to her at the counter.
"By the way, Dr. Sutton, don’t you have a boyfriend?"
"I don’t." Kelsie answered without thinking twice.
Holly audibly gasp and so did the nurse behind the counter.
While the nurse didn’t have the guts to reprimand Kelsie, Holly seriously chided her.
"I get that he’s not as wealthy as Mr. Adler, but he’s a fine young man who always bought us food. It’s cruel of you to toss him aside simply because you found a richer man."
The nurse nodded vigorously, chiming in almost imdiately.
"What Holly said, Dr. Sutton! He’s not even any shorter than Mr. Adler and he’s a hardworking man. He may not be rich now, but I know in a few years, he’d be on par..."
Holly hurriedly cut her short mid-way as she corrected, "On par? Don’t kid yourself. Even if he joins the mafia or does so shady business, he’s never going to be on par with Jett Adler."
"Wh-what? That person was not just a mber of the Adler family, but Jett Adler himself?" The nurse froze for a second, stuttering slightly in disbelief.
Holly eyes shimred brightly as she beckoned onto the nurse, putting her head together with hers.
"I’m certain of it. I asked over five people who were around during the disciplinary hearing and they confird he ca with Eric Lance."
"We all know whose assistant he is, don’t we? He has never for any reason served as the assistant of anyone else other than Jett Adler. Not even a fellow mber of the Adler family."
The nurse went silent, eyes shooting towards Kelsie as she sighed reluctantly.
"I don’t bla Dr. Sutton then. Anyone would fall for such a...argh!" The nurse was saying, but yelped in pain, gently massaging her now swollen lips when Holly, sensing what she was about to say, reached over to slap her on it.
"Do you have no conscience? How could you encourage her to do such a thing? I ought to hit you a again!"
"He may be richer than her boyfriend, but It’s never right that she dumped such a hardworking boyfriend for him."
"Moreover, didn’t they say Jett Adler is into n? He has never been with a woman before. So he has to be into n. Isn’t that true, Dr..."
Holly trailed off when she turned around only to see Kelsie was no longer standing there.
"That darn doctor! Why does she always leave when I’m still talking? And how did she leave without realizing? Is she a cat or sothing?"
A call from the ergency room ca in at that mont, temporarily making her forget her grievance as she hurriedly left.
anwhile, Kelsie was driving to the Sutton family’s residence.
As she drove at a moderate speed, Laura Sutton sat in the midst of a group of young people her age, beaming proudly.
"Laura, what do you say about letting take a drive in your Porsche later? It’ll only be for a few minutes and it’ll be within the compound."
"Can I join him? It’ll be my first ti being friends with soone who has such a nice car."
"This might be my only chance to see a car as expensive as that. Please let ride in it too. I don’t mind being in the passenger seat."
Everyone else naturally began clamoring for a chance.
After enjoying this view for a few seconds, Laura laughed softly and calmly waved them aside.
"You don’t have to clamor. I’ll let everyone of you drive."
"You’re so kind-hearted Laura. Even after everything you’ve gone through, you’re still so good to people." A boy gushed in relief.
"I know, right? Never did I think she’d invite to her birthday today. I feel so bad for not contacting her at all in the past four months."
"You’re not the only one. Even when she called , I didn’t answer and blacklisted her number. I’m disgustingly ashad of myself."
"We’re all ashad of how we acted towards her. Thankfully, she forgives easily and won’t hold what we did to her against us."
"I can’t believe I almost lost a rare friend like her. Let’s give a toast to a long and lasting friendship!"
The others began praising her as well, even going as far as clinking glasses at the toast, but unlike the first ti, Laura didn’t stop them nor was she satisfied with their praises.
Fiddling with her car key, she briefly glanced at the ti on her wristwatch before turning her attention to the door.
But she had just done so when Deborah Thompson appeared in front of her with a friend she just made.
"Laura, your mother just told you re-enrolled in dical school after everything that happened. It must be easier this ti, not so?"
Laura politely returned her smile, slightly parting her lips to retort when Deborah beat her to it.
"Of course, it’s easier this ti. My Laura is really smart, so she still rembers what she learnt all those years ago."
"Sigh. After what happened four months ago, she knew it was right to go back to school. You see, human life isn’t sothing she takes lightly unlike her elder sister who relied on shady ans to get her position at Haven dical Center."
It was at this exact mont that Kelsie walked through the door.
