The genius mbers of the Doe Family imdiately looked up. They saw Johnnie, his face cold, his eyes filled with killing intent, and floating around him were the restless flying swords.
This scene made them all open their mouths in shock, their faces full of disbelief.
How could Johnnie, who had been helped a lot by the head of the Douglas family, turn on them so quickly after just entering the secret realm and killing many demon creatures?
Cosmo, who had lost an arm, suddenly brightened up. A smile appeared on his lips as he muttered to himself."Good! He’s being so bold in front of everyone. The head of the Douglas family will definitely take action against him. Johnnie, you’ll end up just as pitiful as soon!"
Other genius mbers of the Doe Family began to talk among themselves:
"Is Johnnie crazy? The head of the Douglas family did nothing to him, and he’s trying to kill him?"
"That’s not right. Maybe sothing happened?"
"Ridiculous. I think Johnnie is just looking for trouble. The Doe Family has been good to him, and he’s being so arrogant. Let’s see how the head of the Douglas family deals with him!"
"Exactly. The head of the Douglas family can’t take it anymore!"
Douglas, who was being watched by all these genius mbers of the Doe Family, was now frowning and looking at Johnnie in confusion.
"Am I dead? No, Johnnie, what’s wrong with you?" Douglas took a deep breath and asked slowly.
Johnnie answered without hesitation."Stop pretending. You know what’s hidden in the Demon Creatures’ Realm, don’t you!"
Johnnie stared at Douglas, trying to see if there was even a hint of fear on his face. But to his surprise, Douglas looked even more confused and lost.
"What realm? What’s going on? The realm has opened. Why are all of you out here?" Douglas looked at Johnnie and then at the other Doe Family geniuses.
Soone explained what had happened inside the realm.
At once, Douglas’s face changed slightly. He quickly asked."Did you find the Broodmother?"
"Sothing’s not right. Aiden and Caron said that the Broodmother never shows up unless she’s in real danger."
Aiden? Caron?
When Johnnie heard those two nas, he imdiately frowned. He hadn’t expected that the Doe Family’s secret realm had anything to do with Aiden and Caron, those two Immortality Cultivators.
And right now, Douglas looked confused and unsure, with no sign of guilt or fear at all.
Was he really not aware of the Bone Worm ritual?
Thinking about this, Johnnie’s anger and murderous intent slightly faded.
He controlled his flying sword and moved closer to Douglas, staring into his eyes and asking slowly:
"How did your family find this Demonic Creatures realm?"
Douglas didn’t answer right away. Instead, he asked Johnnie what had happened inside the realm.
Johnnie thought for a mont and didn’t tell Douglas the whole truth. He just explained briefly about the Broodmother’s strange behavior.
"The Demonic Creatures realm was given to the Doe Family by Aiden and Caron. I only know that there’s a Broodmother there, and how to use the resources to grow more Demonic Creatures." Douglas said.
He felt that Johnnie was hiding sothing. The killing intent he had just sensed wasn’t fake—it was real. Johnnie really wanted to kill him!
Douglas definitely didn’t want that to happen. At least, before the Saint Soul Transference crisis was solved, he had to make sure Johnnie stayed on board.
After all, based on what Aiden and Douglas had told him, only when all the Heaven’s Chosen worked together could they avoid the fate of Soul Transference.
Douglas took a deep breath and said instinctively."Johnnie, whatever happened, it’s not as important as solving the Heaven’s Chosen problem. You need to stay calm, no—"
Before he could finish, he saw Johnnie’s cold and angry eyes, and a faint sense of danger made him stop speaking.
"Did Aiden and Caron tell you anything else about the Broodmother?" Johnnie asked again.
Douglas first shook his head, then suddenly rembered sothing and quickly said.
"Camron once said by accident that the Broodmother was a failed experint, useless to them, which is why they gave the Demonic Creatures realm to the Doe Family."
A failed experint?
Johnnie rembered the white bones of the children in the deep pit. He clenched his fists tightly.
Using innocent and naive kids for the Bone Worm ritual... was that done by Aiden and Caron, those two cowards?
He had to find out the truth.
Johnnie directly asked Douglas how to contact Aiden and Caron, and whether he knew where they usually showed up.
At first, Douglas didn’t want to tell him. He could feel Johnnie’s anger.
Whether it was Johnnie, or Aiden and Caron, Douglas didn’t want anything bad to happen to them. It would ss up the Heaven’s Chosen plan.
But Johnnie was firm. He grabbed Douglas by the soft spot and said.
"I know what you’re thinking. Don’t worry, I just want to talk to them. If they’re not involved, and it’s just a misunderstanding, we can clear it up. That won’t affect the Heaven’s Chosen plan."
"Without trust, there can’t be cooperation."
Even though he was full of anger, Johnnie remained calm. He just said those two sentences, and Douglas imdiately looked uncertain.
After a while, Douglas bit his lip and said."Fine. I know where they usually are. But I have to go with you. Just in case things get out of hand."
...
In the real world, on Earth, in the East.
The sun was setting, and the last light of the day shone quietly on the old apartnt buildings, calm and peaceful.
Johnnie followed Douglas closely, his eyebrows tightly furrowed.
According to what Douglas said, Aiden and Caron usually stayed in the nearby apartnt buildings when they had nothing else to do.
Two powerful Immortality Cultivators, who had lived for thousands of years, living in such a place? It didn’t make sense.
It seed like Douglas sensed Johnnie’s confusion. He turned around and said."A small hermit hides in the mountains, but a great hermit lives in the city."
"Aiden and Caron once said that even though Immortality Cultivators are high and mighty, they should still care about the people below them. Only those with a big heart and a sense of justice are true Immortality Cultivators."
Johnnie imdiately showed a look of contempt. He didn’t believe for a second that Aiden and Caron were that kind. Caring about the people? That was all fake.
At that mont, Johnnie suddenly turned his head and looked ahead.
A blind man was holding a walking stick, with a guide dog by his side. He was standing in front of two little girls.
"Brother, what kind of dog is that? It’s so cute!" one girl asked.
The blind man answered."It’s a golden retriever. It helps walk. My eyes can’t see anything."
"How old are you two?" he asked.
One girl answered quickly."I’m seven."
The other said."I’m nine."
"Then how old do you think the dog is?" The blind man smiled.
The younger girl raised her hand imdiately and said with great confidence."Twelve years old!"
"Ha, twelve years old? It’s about ti for it to retire." the blind man laughed.
The other girl reached out and touched the dog’s head. Then she looked up at the blind man and asked."Brother, when that happens, will your eyes get better too?"
The blind man was surprised. His expression turned awkward, and he didn’t know how to answer.
Johnnie watched all this and took a deep breath. Without aning to, he thought about the white bones in the deep pit.
"What are you looking at?" Douglas turned around and asked.
Johnnie didn’t answer. He just told Douglas to hurry up and take him to find Aiden and Caron.
As the two of them passed by the blind man and the two girls, the older of the two girls suddenly turned pale and started trembling all over.
"What’s wrong?" Though the blind man couldn’t see, he heard the girl’s voice, full of pain.
"Mom said my sister is sick, but she’ll get better soon!" The nine-year-old girl quickly helped her sister up, then pulled out a white pill from her pocket.
At the mont the white pill appeared, Johnnie stopped in his tracks.
"Bone worm! I can feel the scent of Bone worm!" Skye’s voice suddenly said.
Johnnie instinctively looked at the white pill and slowly moved toward the girl. At the sa ti, the golden retriever guide dog imdiately stood up and blocked Johnnie’s way.
The blind man felt the change in the leash and took a few steps forward, standing in front of the two girls.
"Who are you? What do you want?" he asked, unable to see but worried about the safety of the children.
Johnnie tried to stay calm and kept his voice as gentle as possible. "I’m just passing by. I saw the child looking like she needed help. What’s going on?"
At the sa ti, he ntally asked Skye."Are you sure it’s Bone worm?"
"Yes, I’m sure. Though it’s a little different from what I rember, I’m 100% certain—it’s Bone worm." Skye replied confidently.
While Johnnie was talking to Skye, the girl was about to put the white pill into her sister’s mouth.
Johnnie quickly stopped her. With a small move of his finger, the white pill flew directly into his hand.
The two girls stared wide-eyed, full of surprise.
Johnnie asked."Kid, can you tell where you got this white pill?"
The slightly older girl, who looked in pain, bit her lip and said."It was given to us by two old n nearby. Mom said they’re doctors, and they can cure both and my little sister."
"You and your sister?" Johnnie clenched his fists.
"Yes. My sister is also sick. Mom said there are a lot of other kids like us, and we’re all getting better because of the old n’s dicine."
Old n? Doctors?
Johnnie imdiately thought of Aiden and Caron. He turned around, about to tell Douglas to keep going, but then his eyes suddenly landed on sothing behind Douglas.
