Adam turned to go back to his room, but Sophia saw him. She ran ahead and shouted at him. "Wait, Adam."

The sound of her voice halted him. He paused, his hand on his doorknob. He turned to face her again. He extended his thumb over his shoulder and pointed at his residence. He said, "I forgot to give you your bowl back this morning." It was a weak argunt, but it was the first thing that ca to mind. "I am going to go get it now."

After shaking her head, Sophia responded, "You can give it to later." "I have got so good news for you."

Adam was surprised. "Good news?" he asked. "What good news could you share with ?"

Sophia took a big breath. She seed a little uncomfortable. "I could not get it out of my mind when you told last night that you lost your job," she said. "I apologize if I am getting in the way of your life."

Adam took a sharp breath. He could not believe that Sophia had been concerned about him all day. It felt strange and alien to have soone interested in his problems. hurriedly, "No no it is not like that," he responded. "I have no problem quitting that job. Either way, it took up too much of my ti.

Sophia’s face brightened once more. She looked to Adam, anticipation shining in her eyes. "I actually had a conversation with soone at my high school," she said. "There is a teaching opportunity available at our school. I am sorry I did not ask your permission before doing this.

Adam was surprised. He could not think of anything to say. He had only just started talking to Sophia. She was not even familiar with him. But she was willing to do everything for him, no matter what. And she had gone out of her way to get him a job. He was about to refuse. He was not a teacher. He had no degree. He was about to refuse her request.

Then he heard people coming up the steps. It was her boyfriend, Monty, and another acquaintance, Robin. They were getting close to the second story. Adam saw them. He instantly looked from Sophia to the group. He saw Robin’s eyes fixed on Sophia. He rembered the scenario from yesterday. He rembered the pleasure on Sophia’s face when she talked to Robin.

Adam sensed a rupture within himself. What it was, he did not know. A strange feeling of possessiveness ca over him. He had thought he had suppressed his affections for Sophia. But when they noticed Robin here, they all hurried back to the surface. Sophia talking to Robin was sothing he did not desire. Seeing them together did not appeal to him.

Without hesitation, without even looking at Sophia, he responded. "Okay," he said. "I am prepared to do it." Sophia was out of his line of sight. They were watching the three going up the stairs. Specifically on Robin. He had made a decision in an instant due to a sudden wave of jealousy.

He gave Sophia a look. Suddenly, "I have to go now," he remarked. He walked by her. He did not even look at Monty and her pals as they reached the top of the steps. He just walked down the corridor and out of the building.

The three of them watched him go. They approached Sophia, who was still in the corridor and seed confused by Adam’s sudden departure.

Compared to Monty, Adam and Sophia had spent less ti in the apartnt complex. Adam was soone she knew well. Sophia introduced her to the hard-working young man who lived next door. She walked over to put her arm around Sophia’s shoulder. She was grinning in a lighthearted manner. Then she said, "So you finally talked to your crush."

Robin, one of Monty’s friends, seed surprised. "Crush?" he asked, giving Sophia a teasing smile. "I believed I was your crush." He spoke in a lighthearted tone. Sophia thought his comnts were emotionally intense, even if he was joking. She rely shook her head, trying to change the subject. But the miscommunication was already planted.

Sophia grew agitated. She turned to face Robin and stared at him. "I do not have ti for jokes," she said.

"Anyway, what are you doing here?"

Robin just grinned. He pointed to Monty’s boyfriend, Tony. "Did you forget?" he asked. "Today is Tony’s birthday."

Sophia’s eyes widened. She had completely forgotten about it. With a regretful look on her face, she turned to face Tony. "Oh my god, Tony," she cried. "I am so sorry."

Tony was a gregarious person. He just laughed. He said, "Do not worry about it," while waving his hand. "We already have a plan. You will also be joining us.I will not take "no" as an answer.

Sophia finally given up. She sighed. "Okay, okay, I will co," she said.

Sophia was still being closely watched by Monty. She had a thoughtful look on her face. She saw how Adam had been followed down the hallway by Sophia’s eyes. The struggle in her friend’s face was visible to her.

Monty shoved Robin and Tony away. Then she said, "You two go on down to my room." "We will arrive in a minute." The two boys exited, leaving Sophia and Monty alone in the hallway.
