Hearing Fang Ze's words, Bai Zhi couldn't help but look stunned.
Two pieces of good news and one piece of bad news?
Since she had absolutely no idea what these three pieces of news were about, Bai Zhi casually said, "Well... let's hear the good news first."
Fang Ze went over, took her hand, and sat her down on the sofa before he said, "The first piece of good news is that I've been promoted again."
"Promoted again?!" Bai Zhi's stunning face looked at Fang Ze in surprise.
Out of all the people Bai Zhi had t, Fang Ze's promotion speed was truly in a league of its own. Not only was every promotion a special case and a special elevation, but it also seed like he never hit any bottlenecks.
Normally, after soone is promoted, there should be a period of stability to allow the promoted individual to beco familiar with and master their new responsibilities.
Even though Xida State no longer had the antiquated rule that one must serve a certain number of years in a position before being eligible for promotion, there was still an unwritten understanding that one wouldn't be promoted again within a few years after reaching a certain level.
This ti fra was usually even longer in the case of special promotions.
Yet, all these rules seed to have no effect when it ca to Fang Ze.
The Security Bureau seed to treat Fang Ze as if he owned the place, giving him a clear path and fast-tracking his promotion.
Thinking of this, Bai Zhi suddenly beca puzzled: Eh? That's not right. Isn't the Security Bureau owned by our Bai family? Why does it seem like Fang Ze has an easier path than ?!
And so... she felt even more perplexed.
Unable to figure out what her own family and Fang Ze were planning, Bai Zhi thought about it for a while and then decided not to dwell on it any longer.
She turned to Fang Ze and then asked, "What about the second piece of good news?"
Upon her inquiry, Fang Ze did not reply imdiately. Instead, he went back to the desk, opened a drawer, took out a piece of chocolate, unwrapped it, walked over to Bai Zhi, and handed it to her.
Bai Zhi took the chocolate with a look of confusion and turned her eyes towards Fang Ze.
Fang Ze gestured, "Eat it."
Full of question marks, Bai Zhi took a bite of the chocolate.
The chocolate was smooth and sweet on entry, just like Bai Zhi's mood at that mont.
Seeing Bai Zhi eat it, Fang Ze said with a smile, "The second piece of good news is, you're going to be the bureau chief."
"Bureau chief?!" Bai Zhi was stunned for a mont before she realized what it ant.
If Fang Ze was promoted, then the position of Erald City's Security Bureau chief was vacated!
Then the situation reverted to what it had been before Fang Ze arrived: she and Gu Qing would compete for this position.
Thinking about this, Bai Zhi felt sothing was off again: based on the attitudes of her family and Bing (the female bureau chief), it seed unlikely that this position would co to her.
With this thought, she couldn't help but look at Fang Ze.
Fang Ze nodded affirmatively with a smile, "That's right. It was sothing I specifically discussed with the chief."
Continuing, Fang Ze sat down next to Bai Zhi, wrapped his arm around her shoulder, and with a reminiscent look in his eyes, he said, "In fact, as soon as I beca the chief of the Erald City Security Bureau, I was thinking that I must quickly achieve so results, get promoted, and then leave this position for you."
"After all, this position was originally yours."
"That's why I worked so hard to find cases and solve them. Fortunately, my efforts were recognized by the chief. The head of the Judicial Departnt at the State Security Bureau was nearing retirent, and she has been looking for a suitable successor. She thought I would be a perfect fit."
"While talking with her, I also made a request: I can go to the Provincial Governnt to be in charge of the Judicial Departnt, but the Erald City Security Bureau should be left to you."
"She agreed."
Having said that, Fang Ze looked at Bai Zhi with a smile and added, "So... in a couple of days, you'll be the chief of the Erald City Security Bureau."
"Although it's about a month later, you will finally realize your original dream."
Fang Ze had thought that by telling her this, Bai Zhi would be very happy.
After all, even Bai Zhi, who was normally so strong, had once cried over the position of bureau chief. This showed that the position held a significant place in her heart, and now that she could have it, she should definitely be happy.
However, contrary to Fang Ze's expectations, Bai Zhi, having heard his words, showed not the slightest hint of happiness on her face.
She looked at Fang Ze and said with an expressionless face, "So... the bad news you're implying is: from now on, one of us will be in the Provincial Governnt, and the other in Erald City, miles apart?"
With that said, Bai Zhi suddenly stood up and declared, "Then I'd rather not be the bureau chief!"
"I was never interested in this darn bureau chief position to begin with! All I was interested in was Martial Arts!"
"The only reason I cared before was because of my competitive nature. This position was originally mine, and Gu Qing parachuted in to compete with for it. How could I accept that?!"
"Later, when you beca the chief, I felt a bit embarrassed at first, but gradually I stopped caring."
"Now you're leaving to make space for to be the chief! I don't want it!"
"Even if I beco the chief, I won't know how to manage, nor will I want to. I'll just create a bunch of sses for you to clean up later!"
"So!" Bai Zhi said, looking serious at Fang Ze, "Let go with you! I don't want to stay in Erald City alone! Nor do I want to be the chief."
Upon hearing Bai Zhi's words, Fang Ze was montarily stunned. Then, he couldn't help but burst into laughter, "So you think the bad news was that, huh."
