"Aunt Langley had a sudden heart attack. She was rushed to the hospital and they’re trying to save her now."

What?!

’I was stunned. I never thought my mother-in-law would fall so gravely ill all of a sudden. The last ti I saw her, she was just a bit weak...’

"Do you want to go to the hospital? We can go together."

I nodded quickly. My mother-in-law treated like her own daughter. There was no way I wouldn’t go see her after hearing what had happened.

"Let’s go."

Soon, the car was on its way to Kington University Hospital.

When we arrived outside the ergency room, Vincent Lombard and Clara Langley were sitting on a bench in the hallway.

Hearing our approach, Clara Langley instinctively looked up. The mont she saw Sebastian Forrest and , she shot to her feet and blocked my path. "Chelsea Joyce? What are you doing here? You’re not welco!"

I shot her a cold glance. "Who do you think you are? Get out of my way!"

Clara Langley clearly didn’t expect to be so forceful. She froze for a second before her brows knitted together. "This happened to Aunt Langley because of you, and you still have the nerve to show up? You haven’t even divorced Theodore, yet here you are, fooling around with another man..."

I ignored her completely and walked past her toward the ergency room. But I only made it a few steps before Vincent Lombard blocked . "Chelsea Joyce, are you deaf? Didn’t Clara just tell you? You’re not welco here!"

’A chill ran through my heart. I knew Vincent Lombard always favored Clara Langley, but I never imagined that at a critical ti like this, his main concern would be whether she was getting slighted!’

’My mother-in-law must have been blind to fall for a man like him!’

I couldn’t help but take a deep breath to calm myself. "I’m here to see the patient, not to argue with you."

"And who do you think wants to argue with you?" Clara Langley strode over to Vincent Lombard’s side. "Mr. Lombard, look at her! She’s gotten so arrogant since finding so other man. She won’t even listen to you!"

Vincent Lombard’s brow tightened. He suddenly reached out and shoved hard. "Go on, get out of here! You’re not welco!"

His sudden shove sent staggering back several steps. I would have fallen if Sebastian Forrest hadn’t quickly caught from behind.

"Quite the show of force, Mr. Lombard," Sebastian Forrest said, his thin lips pressed into a firm line, making his jawline stand out sharply.

Vincent Lombard looked down, a guilty expression on his face. He didn’t dare et Sebastian Forrest’s gaze but still tried to explain himself. "I... I just gave her a light push. I didn’t think she’d be so unsteady..."

I didn’t bother arguing with them any further. I walked quickly to the door of the ergency room and peered inside, my face etched with anxiety.

But the door was shut tight, and the frosted glass made it impossible to see anything inside.

Before we ca, I’d asked Sebastian Forrest, but he only knew what Dr. Miller had told him—that my mother-in-law had a sudden heart attack and was rushed here for ergency treatnt. He didn’t know the specifics of her condition either.

With Sebastian Forrest present, Vincent Lombard and Clara Langley didn’t harass any further. They didn’t say another word, just sat on the bench, idly scrolling through their phones.

"Don’t just stand there. Here, sit for a bit."

Just then, Sebastian Forrest appeared with a chair from sowhere. He gently pressed on my shoulders, guiding to sit. "Aunt Langley is a good woman," he soothed. "Fate is on her side. I’m sure she’ll be fine."

I nodded, unconsciously repeating his words. "Yeah, she’ll be fine..."

I don’t know how much ti passed before a flurry of urgent footsteps echoed from the other end of the hall. I instinctively looked up to see Theodore Grant hurrying over.

"Theodore..." Clara Langley imdiately rushed to et him. "You’re finally here..."

"How’s my mom?" Theodore’s brow was furrowed with worry. "How could she have a heart attack all of a sudden?"

Clara Langley sighed. "I don’t know the specifics. I just heard that Aunt Langley wasn’t feeling well and wanted to co visit her. I never expected this to happen..."

Theodore was about to say more, but his eyes landed on . They narrowed, and his face instantly darkened.

Just then, however, the ergency room door swung open, and a doctor walked out, pulling off his mask.

"Doctor, how is my mother-in-law?"

I was closest to the door and rushed forward first, my face tense with worry.

A mont later, Theodore and the others crowded around as well. "How’s my mom?"

"You can all relax. We were able to stabilize the patient. However, she’s very weak right now and will need to remain in the hospital for observation."

Hearing this, Theodore let out a long sigh of relief. "Thank you, Doctor."

As the doctor walked away, the weight on my chest finally lifted.

’Thank God. As long as she’s okay.’

"See? I told you fate was on Aunt Langley’s side," Sebastian Forrest said with a smile, turning his head to et my gaze. "I knew she’d be fine."

I nodded. "Yeah."

Just then, Jude Miller arrived. He exchanged a few pleasantries with Theodore and the others before saying he needed to speak with Sebastian Forrest, pulling him away toward his office.

"Wait for here. I’ll take you ho in a bit," Sebastian Forrest instructed in a low voice, his eyes glancing over at Theodore and the others.

I replied distractedly, "Okay."

As I watched Sebastian Forrest leave, I lowered my gaze, lost in thought. ’There’s sothing truly strange about my mother-in-law’s illness; I can’t help but be suspicious.’

’She was always so healthy and took such good care of herself. Even if it was caused by excessive worrying, as they said, her condition shouldn’t have deteriorated so severely in just one week...’

With that thought, I imdiately headed for the doctor’s office to ask about my mother-in-law’s condition.

But before I’d taken more than a few steps, Theodore Grant stepped in front of .

"Chelsea Joyce, the news that we’re divorcing is all over Kington now. Your little sche worked. You must be thrilled, aren’t you?" Theodore’s voice was low, and his eyes were bloodshot. It was obvious he hadn’t been sleeping well.

I frowned, forcing down my anger. "So," I said mockingly, "when are you going to finalize the divorce with ?"

"Don’t even think about it!" Theodore hissed through gritted teeth. "I’ll die before I divorce you, so get that idea out of your head! I won’t let you and Sebastian Forrest run off and live happily ever after!"

’A wave of helplessness washed over . I had no idea what Theodore was holding on to.’

’Spite?’

’But he clearly doesn’t even like .’

’Why suffer like this, clinging on and refusing to let go?’

"Suit yourself." I refused to get drawn into it further. I tossed the words at him expressionlessly and turned toward the doctor’s office.

After I explained why I was there, the doctor frowned and said gravely, "Actually, Ms. Langley’s condition is indeed sowhat unusual..."

My heart clenched. ’I knew it.’

"Doctor, can you find out the specific cause?"

"That will take so ti."

I quickly grabbed a piece of paper from his desk and wrote down my number. "This is my cell phone number. Could you please let know once you find the cause?"

The doctor took the slip of paper, glanced at it, and nodded. "Alright."

"Thank you, Doctor."

After saying goodbye to the doctor, I headed for the door. I’d only taken a few steps when I heard soone call my na.

"Chelsea Joyce!"

It was Clara Langley.

My eyes narrowed slightly. ’She’s absolutely relentless.’
