"It’s that expensive?" I was completely shocked.
"What should I do? Should I call him right now and give them back?" I quickly pulled out my phone. After all, we’re colleagues. I didn’t want to be indebted to him for no reason.
"Relax." Chloe Miller stuffed the two tickets into my hands. "These are still valid for another week. You can give them back tomorrow."
"Oh, good." Only then did I feel relieved enough to put the tickets away in my bag.
’Returning them tomorrow will be fine, then.’
"Let’s go."
"Okay."
...
After an entire afternoon of shopping, I finally found a silver, windproof lighter.
But this one, seemingly unremarkable lighter cost nearly half a month’s salary.
Still, it was a small price to pay compared to the favor Sebastian Forrest had done for .
"Don’t put it off," Chloe Miller said, instantly displeased the mont she heard I was going to wait to give the gift to Sebastian Forrest. "Give it to him today. Strike while the iron is hot. Just call him now."
I thought about it and agreed she was right, so I pulled out my phone and dialed Sebastian Forrest’s number.
The call connected quickly.
"Hello..." The man’s voice was deep and magnetic. "What’s up?"
I rushed to explain, "Since the company gave us the day off, I went out and bought you a gift..."
"A gift?" Sebastian Forrest’s voice rose slightly. "A gift for ?"
"It’s to thank you for all your help lately..." I paused. "Do you have ti now? If it’s not convenient..."
But before I could finish, Sebastian Forrest imdiately said, "I have ti. I’m at the company right now."
I rembered hearing them talk at the banquet a few days ago. Sebastian Forrest was working on a military research and developnt project...
"Is it okay for to co over?"
After all, it was military R&D, which involved a lot of confidential information.
"I’ll send you my location."
"Okay."
After I hung up, Chloe Miller nudged my arm with her elbow, a suggestive look on her face. "Chelsea, I’m sure of it now. Master Forrest definitely likes you."
"How is that possible?" I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, not believing her in the slightest.
’How could a man of Sebastian Forrest’s status possibly like a married woman like ?’
’Believing a domineering CEO would fall for a divorcée with a kid like ?’
’That kind of cliché romance is sothing only novels would dare to write.’
’How could that possibly happen in real life?’
Chloe Miller reached out and cupped my face. "My darling Chelsea, don’t sell yourself short. Countless guys had crushes on you back in the day. Who’s to say Sebastian Forrest wasn’t one of them!"
"Alright, enough of your nonsense. I’m heading out. I’ll treat you to sothing good another day!" I waved to Chloe Miller and hailed a taxi.
Soon, I arrived at the building of Sebastian Forrest’s company.
"Chelsea."
Before I even went inside, I saw a tall, imposing figure.
Sebastian Forrest was wearing a simple trench coat today. He was tall with long legs, and the hem of his coat fluttered in the breeze, making him look impossibly handso and eye-catching.
’He looks like a model in whatever he wears—a true clotheshorse.’
I quickly jogged over to him.
"Slow down, don’t fall," Sebastian Forrest said, striding toward .
"Why did you co out? Have you been waiting long?" I felt a little embarrassed. I was the one giving a gift to express my gratitude, but I hadn’t expected him to be waiting at the entrance.
From the ti I hung up to the taxi ride over, which included getting stuck in traffic, nearly an hour had passed. I had no idea how long he’d been waiting.
"I was just coming out for so air," Sebastian Forrest said with a faint smile. "Co on, I’ll show you around my company."
I’d previously thought that given Sebastian Forrest’s status, the Military Technology Corporation he ran would definitely not be so small-ti operation.
However, when we actually entered their laboratory, I realized my imagination had been far too limited.
"Is... is this a military weapon?"
I couldn’t help but gasp, my heart starting to pound. "Isn’t this considered a classified project?" I asked nervously. "Should an outsider even be seeing this?"
Although I didn’t know much about military engineering, I’d heard of things like non-disclosure agreents.
Sebastian Forrest stared at for a mont, then smiled slowly. "You’re not an outsider."
I quickly held up three fingers to swear an oath. "I promise I won’t tell anyone..."
But before I could finish, Sebastian Forrest reached out and took my hand, covering my fingers. "No need to swear."
His palm was warm and rough, and where our skin touched, it felt as if a jolt of electricity shot through .
Just as I instinctively tried to pull my hand back, he let go, a casual smile on his lips. "Didn’t you say you had a gift for ? Why haven’t you taken it out yet?"
"Ah? Oh..."
I quickly opened my bag and handed the small, exquisitely wrapped box to Sebastian Forrest. "I hope you like it."
Sebastian Forrest took it and opened it. When he saw the lighter lying inside, he looked up, a little surprised. "You picked this out?"
"Yeah." I couldn’t help but feel nervous. "I didn’t know what to get, but... I just thought you could use it..."
"I love it." Sebastian Forrest turned it over and over in his hand. With a crisp DING, a blue fla leaped up. Above it, his eyes shone brightly. "Thank you."
I let out a silent sigh of relief. "I’m glad you like it."
Sebastian Forrest tucked the lighter into his pocket, the corners of his lips curled into a persistent smile. His good mood was practically visible.
Seeing his reaction, my anxious heart finally settled. I knew I hadn’t chosen the wrong gift.
"Boss, is this your girlfriend? She’s so beautiful!"
Just then, soone in the lab suddenly spoke up. In an instant, one person after another chid in, and the atmosphere erupted with excitent.
I instinctively looked at Sebastian Forrest, hoping he would quickly explain the situation to his employees.
But Sebastian Forrest just glanced over with a smirk and cursed good-naturedly, "None of your damn business. Get back to work!"
"To the boss and the boss’s lady, may you have a long and happy life together!"
"May you soon be blessed with a son!"
Hearing their increasingly outrageous comnts, I felt my face flush. This misunderstanding was getting out of hand.
’I don’t know if Sebastian is just too lazy to explain or if he doesn’t grasp the seriousness of the situation, but this needs to be cleared up... ’
I imdiately waved my hands in denial. "I’m not..."
But before I could finish, soone laughingly interrupted, "You will be sooner or later!"
"Yeah!" soone else cheered.
"HAHAHA!"
As the atmosphere grew more and more boisterous, I couldn’t help but shoot a pleading look at Sebastian Forrest. But he acted as if he hadn’t seen it, just grinning at . "Don’t mind them, they’re just a bunch of coarse guys. Co on, I’ll show you around so more..."
It wasn’t until we finally left the lab that the sounds of laughter and teasing faded behind us.
Sebastian Forrest showed around, explaining things as we went.
I was afraid he would say too much and reveal confidential information. Just as I was about to stop him, the phone in his pocket suddenly started vibrating.
The call was from Jude Miller.
"Hello, what’s wrong?"
However, as Sebastian Forrest listened, the smile on his face slowly vanished completely.
"Okay, I understand. Chelsea and I are on our way."
Seeing Sebastian Forrest hang up with such a grim expression, my heart tightened. I quickly asked, "What is it? What happened?"
