My aunt, on the other hand, was fussing over , her face beaming. "You silly girl, how could you hide sothing as big as a pregnancy from us! This is wonderful news..."
"How many months along are you? Why aren’t you showing yet? This won’t do. I’ll go to the market later and buy you a nice, old hen to make so soup. You’re pregnant now, so you have to keep your nutrition up."
"Don’t be so stubborn with your brother. Would he ever do anything to harm you? Just hurry up and remarry Theodore Grant. I can see he still cares about you a lot. That’s why he caused such a scene today..."
Hearing my aunt’s words grow more and more absurd, I cut her off helplessly. "Aunt, please stop. I’m not going to remarry Theodore Grant."
My aunt was taken aback. "Then your baby..."
"I’m going to have it, and I’ll raise the baby on my own."

"It’s not up to you!" my brother snorted. "Now that Mom and Dad are gone, you have to listen to !"
I laughed, infuriated. "And why should I listen to you?"

But before I could finish, my aunt quickly grabbed my arm. "Alright, alright, stop fighting with your brother. He’s just looking out for you. You have to be careful with the baby in your belly. What if you get too upset?"
My aunt was trying to play peacemaker, but from my perspective, she was clearly taking sides. Every word she said was in my brother’s favor.

"But this isn’t my house..."
"It doesn’t matter if it’s rented. I can help you with the housework, cooking, and all that. Besides, it’s not safe for a young woman to live alone in the city. It’s always a good thing to have family looking out for you."
I pressed my lips together, feeling my frustration grow.
My aunt had clearly said she was only staying for one night...

My phone started ringing just as I got out of the house.
When I saw the caller ID, I felt a wave of relief, like I’d found my anchor. I quickly answered the call.
"Chelsea, sweetie! I’m back from my business trip. Did you miss ?" Chloe’s cheerful voice chirped from the other end.
I felt tears welling up in my eyes. Chloe’s return couldn’t have been more tily.
"Chloe, you’re finally back..."
"Hahaha, I knew you missed ! I bought you tons of snacks and fun stuff. I’ll bring them over in a bit..."
"Don’t worry about it. Where are you now? I’ll co to you."
"Co over to my place."
"Okay, I’m on my way."

I pulled up to Chloe Miller’s place.
The mont she opened the door, Chloe Miller pulled into a huge hug.
"What’s wrong? You don’t look too happy. Who’s been giving you a hard ti?"

And now look, they’re determined to freeload off you!" Chloe poked my forehead. "They really aren’t kidding about ’pregnancy brain.’ How could you agree to sothing like that?"
"Tell about it." I pouted, dejected. "I didn’t think my aunt would deliberately lie to ..."
"And your brother has obviously been bought off by Theodore Grant."
I nodded quickly. "That’s what I think, too."
Chloe gave a teasing look. "See? You’re not so dumb after all!"
My face fell. "Oh, stop teasing . I’m worried sick about this."
"There’s basically no easy solution, unless you’re willing to go all out and disown your aunt and her family..." Chloe said, holding up her hands.

And that was the very reason this whole situation was giving such a headache.
Chloe patted my shoulder, not quite sure how to comfort either.
"If it cos down to it, I’ll just move back to my old apartnt and give this house back to Senior Forrest."

"Are you sure your aunt and her family won’t just follow you there?"

"Think about it. Things are so expensive in Kington. Renting a two-bedroom apartnt costs at least five thousand, and that’s for a place in a bad neighborhood. For a place in your old apartnt’s location, it’d be at least eight thousand. Not to ntion, if they live with you, they’ll probably save on all three als. Only an idiot wouldn’t take a deal that good..."
I couldn’t help but sigh.
"So, there you have it. Your aunt and her family are like superglue. You’re not getting rid of them!"
