Chapter 669: Lure 2 (Ch.670)
Shadows swirled and curled around Neveah’s feet on all sides, they did not co too close but the shadows ford a periter around Neveah and moved as she moved.
Neveah took a step forward but stopped, staring between the shadows and the sorcerer who stood close to the wall, now a little wary of Neveah after her first attack.
’He should be more than wary.’ Neveah’s wolf thought and Neveah’s silence this ti was a tacit agreent.
Neveah was not certain if moving further was venturing deeper into whatever trap spell had been set and so she ntally weighed her options, whilst her wolf paced restlessly within her mind, eager to be let out.
"It is not I who seeks for your life, nor My Lord. But you have many enemies, Lady Neveah and so you must die...but death is not always the end. And even in death, the soul lives on... comfort yourself in that." The sorcerer told Neveah in words that Neveah was not certain she fully understood.
"What nonsense are you spouting?" Neveah hissed in a dark tone, but she did not get to receive a response to her question.
The door to the cell harshly slamd shut behind Neveah, producing a loud clanging sound of tal against tal.
Neveah did not bother glancing back, her narrowed gaze was fixed on the sorcerer.
"Your spell had better be quicker than my claws..." Neveah hissed as she threw caution aside to make the lunge, but a palpable switch in the atmosphere had Neveah stopping in her tracks.
Neveah’s brows twitched slightly when a swirling portal of shadows suddenly tore open in the wall, a gust of wind whooshed into the cell, along with dirt and debris.
’A portal actually activates within dragon keep...one of these runes must be shielding the wards set around the Keep...’ Neveah thought.
Neveah tilted her head away to protect her eyes but her head jerked back up when a sweet, singsong voice addressed her.
"Do you wish to live, Lady Neveah? Do you fear death? What can be done? The spell already began the mont you stepped into this cell." The voice said, a quiet giggle like the tingling of bells followed after.
The voice was all too familiar to Neveah, despite having heard it once alone, it was ingrained in Neveah’s mory and her gaze narrowed into a frown as her eyes t that of the dark fairy.
The dark fairy casually stepped out of the portal, if one could even call it stepping. Her feet barely touched the ground, save for the very tips of her bare footed toes, like she walked on air.
Her obsidian wings fluttered behind her in excitent while she glanced from one side to the other in what Neveah could only conclude was delight, and then she took more assured steps in, like she owned the place.
"Ah... Dragon Keep...spell after spell, I have tried, yet this is such a difficult place to reach. Who knew Azkar had a thod all along and hid it from ?" The dark fairy humd in delight.
It was the sa dark fairy from the fodder grooves, Neveah noted. The one behind the storm singers, the one who had ssed with Estelle’s mind and poisoned Dante.
The dark fairy who had almost killed Neveah that night, had the oak box not reacted, long before Neveah even knew Devirld would be rged to her on that night.
"I see you rember . But then again, you should. But for Azkar’s interference, you would already be long dead...as you should be."
"You have been quite the nuisance since you showed up in the stronghold...thwarting the Dragon King’s poisoning, harming so many of my subordinates, and sohow you have survived this long since." The dark fairy said in distaste.
"Well Azkar is no longer here to protect you, tragically...and neither is your father, your beloved dragons or anyone else." The dark fairy taunted rrily.
Neveah snarled low in her throat, baring her teeth as her canines elongated and her wolf rose to the surface.
"Now now, keep those teeth away. Consider it your good fate that you have extended your life a year longer, and consider it an honor I have co to you in person...you see, I realized, if I wanted sothing done right, it is best done in person."
"That way, one does not have to be in the shadow of a re sorcerer...or rely on incapable subordinates." She explained, passing a snide look to the dark sorcerer.
"Are you not curious to know what purpose your death will serve?" The dark fairy asked Neveah, perking up almost instantly.
"Will it bring your subordinates back to life? Or give you the dragon throne? Or put an end to dragon dynasty? Or change the climate?" Neveah asked with a bored expression.
The dark fairy smirked, a complicated look in her eyes. Neveah subtly glanced around, she hardly knew anything about runes so she could not figure out exactly what kind of trap she had just walked into.
"I do not need to know because it does matter. It will take more than just you two to kill , dark magic or not." Neveah said with certainty.
"You must believe soone will co for you. What if I told you no one is coming? The Lord of Argentine Scales perhaps?" The dark fairy asked Neveah.
"What did you do with Imagor?!" Neveah demanded.
"That is not a question I can answer. Leon would know better." The dark fairy replied with a shrug, gesturing to the sorcerer.
"Within these dungeons, there are many who have a blood feud with the King’s guard. Since I am here and so is the King’s guard, I thought it wise to give them the opportunity to settle that feud."
"That way, you both could et... uninterrupted." The sorcerer Leon said to Neveah.
"You freed the prisoners?!" Neveah hissed, her fists clenching by her sides.
"Oh do not worry dear, you will not live long enough to be responsible for that." The dark fairy assured.
