Chapter 292: Jade Dragon (Ch.292)

The very mont Neveah stepped into the dark cave, a strong tremor shook the ground right beneath her feet.

The tremor ca so unexpectedly, as though the cave had recognized a foreign presence and strongly rejected it.

Neveah was not at all prepared for this and so she was caught off guard. Neveah’s confusion only lasted for a mont because by the next mont, she realized the cause of the tremors.

A thick stone door was closing up the entrance of the cave which Neveah had just co through, a stone door Neveah had not noticed before.

As the door ca down, it blocked out every strand of light and it closed up at a swift pace.

’Veah, get out!’ Neveah’s wolf ordered her with a stern hiss.

The mont Neveah’s wolf said these word, Neveah dashed for the door on instinct and Neveah was certain she would have made it out, but the tremors of the ground only grew more severe and she was thrown off balance.

Neveah rolled down the steep path, bumping into rocks that jutted up from the uneven ground, the cave still trembled violently and the door had slamd shut, blocking out every trace of light and casting the cave in pitch darkness.

Neveah reached out repeatedly, attempting to find her balance, but there was no study handhold and Neveah tumbled down right into a large opening in the ground that led into another part of the cave.

It was a great height down to the lower cavern and Neveah plumted down from that height, right into a water body, a quiet gasp escaping her as she fell right into the water.

A string of air bubbles escaped Neveah’s lips, she had not been able to hold her breath before falling into the chilling cold pool and the force of her fall pulled her down to the very depths where Neveah’s head slamd harshly against a rock.

A feeling of Deja Vu was stirred in Neveah’s heart as her mind imdiately took her back to the fierce currents that had pulled her under back at the cliff.

Neveah felt light headed and a sharp ache tore through her head, Neveah was certain she had been severely injured by that hit.

There was also the building pressure in Neveah’s chest as she was unable to breath.

’To the surface Veah, swim!’ Neveah’s wolf reminded her through.

Neveah quickly shook off the haze of unconsciousness that tugged at her, all around her was pitch darkness and the water was chilling cold.

Neveah could not see anything at all, she determined a general direction based on the angle of fall and then swarm upwards, kicking against the water.

Neveah’s head soon broke the surface and she sucked in a deep, trembling breath, glancing around her.

The lower cavern she had fallen into was still dark, but not as much as it had been beneath the water.

Neveah swam over to the edge of the pool and scrambled out of it, laying flat on the floor and sucking in deep breaths.

"State your identity, rider." A deep animalistic tone sounded in Neveah’s mind and Neveah’s eyes widened.

Neveah sat up imdiately, glancing around quickly, her gaze narrowed and her muscles taut, ready to lunge at any mont.

"Who are you?!" Neveah demanded in a dark tone.

"State your identity!" The voice ordered again, echoing loudly in Neveah’s head.

Neveah’s head pounded even more severely and she lifted a hand to cradle her head, gritting her teeth against the pain.

"Neveah Oga Lothaire... Lady of Ruby Scales!" Neveah announced before the voice could speak again.

"The King’s guard?...Many decades have past since a bond was ford by the King’s guard."

"Indeed... the last of you to walk my doors was the one with the siren eyes. Misha... she was called, Lady of Onyx Scales." The voice sounded in Neveah’s mind again, not as loud as before.

"Who are you and why are you in my head?!" Neveah demanded.

"What do you think?" The voice asked again in Neveah’s mind.

"You are a dragon lord. But I should not hear you in my head, we are not in contact." Neveah replied.

"Are you certain?" The voice asked again just as the ground beneath Neveah’s palm moved.

Neveah jumped to her feet just as the end of a long tail slithered away from where she had been sitting.

Neveah backed away till she was pressed against the wall, her narrowed gaze studying the rocky ground around her feet.

A yelp of surprise was caught in Neveah’s throat as a mighty dragon rose up from the pool, water raining down it’s scales and horns.

Neveah shuddered in horror, realizing she had fallen right into the resting place of such a mighty beast.

The dragon was a Jade green shade and all the part of it Neveah saw was only the head and shoulder of it’s upper limb.

The large dragon head turned slowly, large yellow orbs settling on Neveah for a mont.

Neveah studied the dragon warily, she knew it would not hurt her but at the sa ti, she could not be entirely certain.

Other than the King’s guard, Neveah had not interacted with many other dragons,

It had also been only a few months since Neveah arrived dragon keep and so she could not boast of having gained an understanding of dragon kind.

As Neveah studied the mighty jade dragon, she noticed sothing was amiss.

"You...are missing a wing..." Neveah stuttered out with wide eyes.

Neveah regretted her words the very next mont as a fierce growl rumbled from the dragon, it’s large teeth bared in a threatening display.

Neveah gulped audibly, ntally reminding herself that this was not narx who would not mind whatever words she said... this was a completely strange and unfamiliar dragon.

Clearly, this dragon was also hostile and did not appreciate Neveah pointing out his disability.

’We should get out of here.’ Neveah’s wolf thought to her cautiously as low growls still rumbled out of the jade dragon, it’s fierce eyes still fixed on Neveah.

’Making a run for it will only anger it more.’ Neveah thought back to her wolf with a shake of her head.

"Forgive , My Lord. It was not my intention to anger you...I should not have said that." Neveah apologized honestly, lifting both hands up to show she ant no harm.

The eyes of the jade dragon narrowed slightly before it growled again, it’s tail slithering out of the water and across the distance to Neveah.

Neveah watched it warily, the tail of the jade dragon was not as lethal as Xenon’s own tail that ended in a large spiked ball that could smash through anything.

It certainly was not lined all along it’s length with frighteningly sharp spikes like narx’s tail that Neveah was certain could rip anything apart.

It was also not curved out at the end like the sharp head of a mighty spear which was the form of the dragon king’s tail.

Of the few dragons Neveah had seen from close up, their tails were greatly different from one another but each was a lethal weapon.

The tail of the jade dragon was thin and long, but it ended in a frighteningly sharp point, it was another lethal appendage and Neveah did not feel inclined to be anywhere near it.

The tail of the Jade dragon hovered before Neveah, Neveah knew what the dragon wanted from her.

With much reluctance, Neveah stretched her right hand out and the thin tail of the dragon wrapped around her wrist, the rough texture of the smaller scales lining it’s tail grazing Neveah’s skin.

"I am Lord Skiren, guardian of the Ever-burn cave, and it is I who shall try your worth young rider." The voice of the jade dragon sounded in Neveah’s mind again.

"Lord Skiren..." Neveah murmured to herself quietly, Neveah was certain she recognized this na and it took her only a mont to recognize it.

"Lord Skiren?!...The one from the history books?!" Neveah exclaid in awe, completely forgetting the docile attitude she had taken on a mont ago.

"This is amazing..." Neveah murmured, now staring at the jade dragon with wide, intrigued eyes.

"What have you heard of ?" Lord Skiren asked Neveah, his large orbs reflecting his confusion at the sudden change in Neveah’s regard of him.

"As much as the books tell. The youngest dragon to have led a clan to battle at the uprising and fought fearlessly at High King Agardan’s side."

"The jade dragon who commanded a victorious battle even before his wings were hardened at the youthful age of twenty sumrs by mortal age..."

"A dragon lord of the High King Agardan’s seventh squadron. A mighty warrior who wielded a staff in mortal form and terrified armies of dark sorcerers... Appraised to be lethal in scale and skin."

"The youngest warrior... youngest King’s guard, yet the one who had made the greatest sacrifice for his King... his wing..." Neveah rushed out all she knew, trailing off at the last part.
