Chapter 282: Defeated (Ch.282)
At this point, the vines had created a wall all around Estelle and was slowly closing the opening at the top so she was completely locked within, with no allowance for movent.
And it was then Estelle sensed the tremble as another vine was summoned, a vine Estelle predicted would erge close enough to her to beco an advantage.
Estelle moved swiftly, right as the vine shot up from the ground, she lightened her weight and grabbed onto it, the force propelling her upwards and through the opening.
Estelle landed on the other side of the vine wall and without a pause, she lunged at the high maiden, sword at the ready.
The high maiden had not expected Estelle would so suddenly escape the vine trap and she was quick to murmur a spell, lifting a hand up at the charging Estelle.
A rock from the edge of the clearing shot at Estelle from the side and Estelle leaped away to escape it, her charge slowing down for a mont.
Estelle’s gaze narrowed, she was halfway to the high maiden now but another rock was already soaring in her direction and would crash into her if she did not stop.
Estelle hissed beneath her breath, sliding down so she went beneath the rock, but there was soon another.
This ti, Estelle could not escape it. She lifted her sword and slashed through the rock, the force of the impact sending Estelle staggering back slightly.
"Give it up, that is as far as you can go." Lady lissa stated clearly as she lifted both hands and even more rocks shot up, hovering above, awaiting the high maiden’s command.
Estelle skidded to a stop, she knew she could escape one or two of these rocks in quick succession, perhaps even three.
But there over ten rocks hovering above and it was clear whichever step Estelle took, she would most likely be hit.
And if Estelle was hit, first blood would be drawn and the battle would be over.
"You hide behind your magic, is this how you prove worthy of Dante?!" Estelle hissed in rage, her eyes darting about, seeking the safest route to get to the high maiden.
"You have your blade and your heightened senses, I have my magic. We are two different races and we surely battle differently, amongst us nymphs... physical strength is secondary to powerful magic." The high maiden replied easily.
"Dante is no sorcerer, he is a fighter! A revered warrior! You will never be worthy of him!" Estelle snapped.
"And you are?!" The high maiden shot back, her calm faltering for a mont at Estelle’s sharp words.
Estelle noticed the rocks hovering above dropped slightly at the high maiden’s outburst.
"Her magic requires focus, she cannot afford to be distracted." Estelle murmured her observation to herself, her hands tightening around her blade.
"Deceit, abduction, forced bonding...all of these are cris Dante will never forgive, and above all? Hurting ... Dante will never, ever forgive that!" Estelle said with certainty, knowing the high maiden would not find her words pleasing.
The eyes of the high maiden narrowed in displeasure.
"Let us see about that." The high maiden replied as she twisted her hand to the side and three rocks shot at Estelle at once.
Estelle’s eyes widened slightly, leaping out of the way as quickly as she could.
The first and second were easily escaped, but escaping the third led to Estelle losing her foot hold and she fell down to the ground, rolling away quickly just as another rock crashed down right beside her.
Estelle winced slightly, rising to her feet with a quiet groan.
"I do not bleed that easily." Estelle stated coldly, lunging at the high maiden again.
Estelle did her best to avoid the rocks, dodging out of the way where she could and slashing through where she could not escape.
Thankfully, the blade Estelle wielded was Dante’s sword. It was crafted from the academy of smiths, forged by the strongest steel and could not be so easily broken.
Dante had lent the sword to Estelle for her protection when they began travelling south, just in case there was ever a ti he was not there to protect her.
Dante’s blade and the box her father had given her, those were the only two items Estelle carried on her person and had never let go of even till this mont.
And just as Estelle recalled the box strapped securely to her back, a rock much larger than the others sped for her.
Estelle spun away at the last mont, but the edge of her cloak was caught in the jagged edge of the rock.
Estelle’s cloak was pulled off, the strap of her satchel ca loose and was tugged along with her cloak, the bag where Estelle had stored the treasure went crashing down.
"No!" Estelle scread in horror as she dove for her satchel, catching it before it could hit the ground.
The satchel was caught in ti, but Estelle herself made a hard crash, her head slamming against a rock.
Not hard enough that she lost consciousness, but as Estelle lifted a hand to her head and felt a thick wetness, a feeling of despair took over her.
The satchel was safe, the treasure within unhard but Estelle had bled first which ant the high maiden had won.
The hooting of the nymphs grew even stronger, their feet thumping the ground and creating a sonorous lody of victory.
"The girl bleeds, then fate is decided..." The head guard of the Nord nymphs began to say but was cut off by the head guard of the druid nymphs.
"That’s not right, the girl bleeds not because of the high maiden’s attack but her own attempt to recover her belonging. It had nothing to do with the battle at all!" The head guard of the druid nymphs insisted, stepping forward.
"My son is right, Lady Estelle got hurt by her own independent actions, this should not count as first blood. An attack of the high maiden must draw first blood itself." Lord Farren supported.
