The young man, after hearing Dean’s explanation, still had a look of unwillingness in his eyes.

Actually, within the passageway of the underground clinic, a chanism involving gasoline had been set up. If it had been ignited then, the narrow passageway would have transford into a sea of fire, engulfing the wooden acupuncture clinic above and buying them enough ti to escape.

The damn problem was, the police arrived too suddenly.

This also led to the doctor, still in the basent and unwilling to abandon his hidden wealth in the acupuncture clinic’s secret compartnt, fleeing with his assistant in another direction.

But this action had dood both him and Annie!

Now, the only consolation was that the pursuers were more likely police, not people from the Viper Gang.

CLANG!

With a crisp sound, the young man dropped the military spike in his hand and raised his arms in surrender. "I admit my guilt, but the woman behind is just a victim who got dragged into this. I hope you won’t harm her!"

Dean laughed. "Buddy, you’ve got one thing wrong. Just now, you ambushed , intending to kill in one strike. Now you drop your weapon and expect to let you go? Even if I agreed, my gun wouldn’t! How about you give a reason to spare you?"

"Then what do you want?"

"Value," Dean said, his voice devoid of emotion. "For so reason, I wasn’t planning on killing you, but I’m petty and can’t stand to lose out. If you can’t make feel better, then you might as well die here."

Hearing Dean’s words, desperation flashed in the young man’s eyes. He’d run into a corrupt cop!

He was just an orphan, fortunate to have been adopted and given a surna by his master. He had no money, and as for his life, it was now in this man’s hands. What of value could he possibly offer to bribe this corrupt cop? Unless... he revealed his master!

The thought had barely surfaced before he suppressed it. One must have a conscience! His master’s kindness to him was imasurable, like a mountain! He couldn’t drag his master into his own ss!

Thinking this, a deadly resolve flashed in the young man’s eyes. His breathing pattern changed, and when he looked up again, veins bulged on his forehead. "Die!"

With a stomp, the three or four ters between them vanished in an instant. As his fist surged forward, a desperate, no-return battle cry echoed endlessly.

"Is this a death wish?" Dean was a bit surprised. He’d encountered soone truly stubborn.

All of this seed to happen extrely fast, but people can’t teleport. Even an ordinary veteran cop could have pulled the trigger as the man charged, let alone him.

But Dean didn’t actually want to kill him; he was just looking for an excuse to probe the organization backing the kid.

Left with no choice, Dean holstered his gun. The instant the attack reached him, he brought his right knee up sharply, striking the young man’s advancing abdon. With a deft move, he sent the man airborne, his right hand clamping onto the youth’s spine like an eagle’s talon, pinning him against the cold, damp tunnel wall.

His spine immobilized, the young man was pressed against the tunnel wall mid-air. He discovered in terror that any attempt to struggle or exert force sent a tearing pain through his back, rendering him completely immobile and powerless. This man... he’s terrifying!

...

Dean waited until the kid stopped struggling before letting him down. Grabbing his hair, Dean lifted his head and slapped him hard across the face several tis. "What are you wailing for?"

This was partly to vent and partly a reminder to the young man: I don’t actually want to kill you!

But the young man was pigheaded. Even dazed from the slaps, he still glared at Dean, biting down hard without uttering a sound.

Dean: "..."

I hate dealing with stubborn types.

"You still look defiant, huh?" Dean raised his hand, ready to make the man’s face a bloody ss.

Just then, the sound of soone crawling ca from the ground.

Dean looked down to see a girl, looking utterly wretched, arduously dragging herself towards them along the damp, chilly corridor.

She struggled to lift her head, revealing eyes swollen to re slits, and said weakly, "Stop hitting him, Officer, please! If you want to know anything, just ask . I know everything about Jin."

Seeing her in such a miserable state, shivering from the cold, Dean, still holding the young man nad Jin by the hair, threw him beside the girl. Seizing the opportunity she provided, he said, "You should be thankful you didn’t kill those three officers earlier, or you’d be dead by now. Now, tell your na!"

Jin, dazed from Dean’s heavy slaps, spat out a mouthful of blood and several teeth. He tenderly embraced the girl, lowered his head, and said, "Jin Dahai."

"Who’s your master?"

Jin Dahai glanced apologetically at the girl in his arms, then lifted his head and said firmly, "I have no master. I killed the Viper Gang mbers all by myself. If you want to arrest soone, just— Mmph—"

"Jin Dashan! Jin Dashan of the Hong Gang!" Annie, in Jin Dahai’s arms, clamped her hand over his mouth and shouted with all the strength she could muster.

Very good! So, they’re with the Hong Gang! Dean’s lips curled into a satisfied smile. Then it’s no problem. I can handle them.

Having obtained the answer he wanted, Dean pulled out his detective badge. "Jin Dahai, you are suspected of killing eight people. You are now under arrest!"

With that, he tossed a pair of handcuffs toward Jin Dahai and the girl.

Jin Dahai sighed in relief. Even though Annie had implicated his master in the end... survival is a basic human instinct. I don’t bla her.

Indulging in a mont of self-deception, fueled by his devotion, he reached out to put on the handcuffs Dean had tossed over, but the touch of the tal startled him.
