Glancing at the ti, Jimmy sent Nia a ssage saying he was back, then went to take a shower and change clothes before heading out again to the Anti-Terrorism Bureau.
Successfully entering the Anti-Terrorism Bureau building, Jimmy arrived at Caitlin's office, "Hi, Caitlin, I'm back."
Caitlin: "Congratulations, Jimmy. You successfully completed your first task."
Jimmy smiled and said, "Not bad, how did the follow-up team do? I left once I finished cleaning up."
Caitlin: "Of course, the mission was successfully completed."
Jimmy: "OK, then I'll head back. By the way, is Nancy here who sent the intel last ti? Haven't thanked her yet."
Caitlin: "Nancy isn't in New York, she's from Langley."
Jimmy suddenly understood, "Oh, got it. If there's nothing else, I'll head back."
Caitlin nodded, and Jimmy turned to leave.
The plan encountered an unexpected twist; Jimmy initially wanted to use this eting to connect with Nancy, maybe get a chance to et one or two retired intel personnel through her.
But since Nancy is from headquarters, there's not much chance for Jimmy, who rarely gets the chance to visit the headquarters, where he's completely unfamiliar. Not reaching his goals feels like a loss; he'll have to see if he can et related business people in the future.
Returning ho, he waited for Nia to get off work so they could go out for dinner. When they returned in the evening, Nia finally couldn't hold back, "What have you been doing these days?"
Jimmy: "Just so small things, a friend ran into so difficulties, so I went over to help, investigated the whereabouts of two people."
Nia: "Private detective? Are you planning to change careers?"
Jimmy laughed and said, "Of course not, it's just that I happened to be taking a break recently, and my friend reached out, so I went to lend a hand; it happens to match my expertise."
While talking, Jimmy walked towards the liquor cabinet, took out two glasses, poured two cups, and sat on the sofa with Nia watching TV.
Nia: "You've been out for a long ti recently. You were in Dallas for over two months before, then back for a short while, then rested for two weeks. What's next?"
Jimmy sighed: "I'm too good for my own good; even the FBI office far in Dallas borrows over. Actually, I'm not an exception; you know Mahong, right? My previous team leader, now he and Philicia are loaned to the Chicago office, and it's been so ti, they haven't returned yet."
Jimmy took a sip of his drink, exhaling deeply, "Our team is actually quite miserable. Mahong and them went to Chicago; originally, I could manage alone, but now with this situation, the group is practically emptied."
Nia: "Your Homicide Team doesn't have many cases; we have more issues, mostly handled by the Detective Bureau."
Jimmy: "Yeah, that's why they only assigned three people to the Homicide Team. When Chris was around, it was just the two of us, also handling the bureau's ergency team."
It's truly thanks to the NYPD's tens of thousands of officers that Jimmy's team remains relatively idle.
New York has 8 million residents, while the NYPD has 36,000 officers with law enforcent powers and 19,000 civilian staff, making it the largest police departnt in the country. Annually, New York sees about 600 murders, with very few cases sent to the FBI; most are handled by the NYPD.
Of course, the Homicide Team is the idlest; other teams are quite busy, such as Peter's White-Collar Team handling financial cris, art cris, banking, and securities cris—there's plenty.
Nia: "Then what does your ergency team mainly handle?"
Jimmy: "We handle everything. I've supported bank heists, school shootings, prison breaks, agent shootings, etc. Whenever the bureau is short-handed, the ergency team has to rush to the scene. Actually, I really enjoy the ergency team; it lets participate in different cases, many of which are not typically encountered."
Nia: "School shootings? Which one?"
Jimmy: "Several of them, though most were support tasks; maybe only one where I shot the gunman. I rember that ti my identity wasn't disclosed, only a report stating an FBI agent shot the gunman."
Nia swirled her glass as if recalling, then shook her head after a while: "I don't really rember, but school shootings here in New York should be quite rare; I seem to recall only about three in the past few years."
Jimmy nodded: "School shootings fall under major security threat cases; we always intervene, though we're mostly there as support, with your police and ESU handling the situation. Alright, let's not talk about this anymore—how's your family these days?"
Nia paused: "They're all fine, no issues; why do you ask?"
Jimmy played with Nia's hair: "Your family doesn't have any opinions about , right? You see, when will we hold an engagent ceremony? Want to discuss it with your family?"
Nia: "I haven't ntioned it to them yet; I don't know how to approach this. What about you? How do you feel about it?"
Jimmy: "Ah, I'm not sure either, but I'll ask around."
These engagent ceremonies need an elder's help to organize. Jimmy's situation is peculiar; his status as an orphan makes it odd if the entire ceremony arrangent is left to Nia's family alone.
Jimmy considered several tis; he should have Jas or Tom help him handle this. If necessary, he'd ask Hughes for help; surely, he'd have no objections—they're seasoned veterans at this.
Nia seed quite interested and chatted more about her family's attitude and daily matters with Jimmy, and a night quietly passed.
When the weekend ca, Jimmy once again accompanied Nia to her ho, dined with her family, chatted, and mingled. Considering their future relationship, it's important to connect; although Nia's father seems quite opinionated about him, if they could win over her mother, the father's opinion can largely be dismissed.
Jimmy is quite appealing to the elderly; although he's not a US Dollar icon who everyone likes, he holds a charming personality, capable of engaging with various topics. Especially having encountered extensive case information, although primarily aiming at investigative skills, he's familiar with geography, architecture, jewelry, etc., able to comnt a bit on each subject, which is quite good.
Moreover, psychology—FBI training included special psychology courses, not intended for pleasing mothers-in-law but still useful in particular scenarios.
After two or three hours of flattery, they finally saw a family-wide grin of approval, exceeding his objectives.
Finally, Monday arrived, and Jimmy dressed early in a suit and drove to the FBI office. Since no departnt was assigned yet, he returned to the Homicide Team.
Upon reaching the office, Jimmy discovered soone already seated at Philicia's forr desk: A white male in his forties, with slightly curly brown hair, no glasses. His facial features were sharp, emitting an austere, resolute aura.
He had taken his suit off and hung it on the chair, revealing a Glock holster on his shoulder, indicating his field agent habit.
Jimmy knocked on the door: "Hi, are you?"
Upon hearing Jimmy's voice, the man turned, saw him, smiled, stood up, and approached: "David White, transferred to the Homicide Team. You must be Agent Jimmy Yang? Nice to et you."
Jimmy extended his hand to shake with David, "Jimmy Yang, nice to et you. Glad the Homicide Team hasn't been completely abandoned; you'll be busy from now on."
David: "I'm new here, still getting familiar. I'll definitely need to consult you in the future."
Jimmy: "No problem. Tea?" My tea set is still here."
David: "Sure, though I can't brew tea; it's been unused these days."
Jimmy: "Hang on." He took off his suit and hung it on his chair, revealing his shoulder holster with two revolvers side by side, more intimidating than David White's single Glock.
Jimmy picked up the tea set to wash, while David returned to his seat. When Jimmy ca back, he brewed tea on the sofa and invited David White to sit down for a chat while enjoying the tea.
