The next day, Jimmy got up early, washed up, and headed out to Roland's lakeside cabin after checking out of his accommodation.
Although it had been almost a year since his last visit, there hadn't been much change around the lakeside cabin. An old pickup was parked outside the house, which was normal since there was no garage; the pickup must have been parked outside, weather-beaten by the wind and sun.
Jimmy parked his car next to the pickup and used Heart Eye Observation on the cabin from inside his car, confirming that there was nobody inside.
Jimmy didn't get out of his car and sat waiting inside. With the pickup still here, maybe Roland had only left for a while. If he couldn't wait for Roland any longer, he would consider whether to enter the house.
Half an hour later, Jimmy saw Roland walking out from the shooting range in the forest where he had previously taught him to reload a revolver. However, Roland was certainly not practicing shooting as he was carrying a deer on his shoulder.
The deer had a large set of antlers, but Jimmy, not knowing much about animals, couldn't tell how old it was.
Jimmy got out of his car and stood by it. Roland had already noticed Jimmy's car, and seeing Jimmy get out, he didn't speak but went straight towards the small dock beside the cabin.
Jimmy didn't walk towards Roland. Instead, he followed Roland's position and adjusted his stance to ensure he was facing Roland squarely.
Roland reached the dock and placed the deer on a stone slab, which seed to be his butchering spot, as Jimmy could see an ax lying next to it.
Roland didn't process the deer but instead squatted down to wash his hands in the lake water, then headed back to the front of the house, nodded at Jimmy, and then entered the house.
Once Jimmy saw Roland nod, he started walking toward the cabin and followed Roland inside. Roland went into an adjacent room to change clothes, while Jimmy stood in the living room, not touching anything or sitting down, just waiting.
A few minutes later, Roland erged from the bedroom, having exchanged his hunting leather jacket and boots for casual clothes.
Roland: "Jimmy, what brings you back here? Have a seat."
Jimmy took an envelope from his pocket and said to Roland, "Last ti I left, you told not to co back, and that was my intention. However, I received a letter mailed from Texas, and since I don't know anyone here, I thought it must be from you. After thinking it over for a long ti, I still wanted to co confirm it with you."
Jimmy handed the envelope to Roland.
Roland took two paintings out of the envelope, glanced at them, then placed them on the coffee table in front of the sofa.
Roland: "Yes, they were mailed from here, but not by . Chambers had co back briefly, and these two paintings are his."
Jimmy: "Chambers? He ca back? Where is he now?"
Roland: "He has already left. He just ca to deliver these two paintings."
Jimmy: "Who are the people in these paintings? Did Chambers ntion it?"
Roland: "Chambers didn't know them, so he brought the paintings to to confirm."
Jimmy: "So, did you figure it out? Who is this person?"
Roland paused and looked at Jimmy, "You, these two paintings are of you. Chambers saw a Chinese man, and the only Chinese he and I know is you."
This ti, it was Jimmy's turn to be silent. He had seen these paintings many tis before, and the person in them didn't look like him at all, whether it was the weapons, clothing, or hair, the differences were significant.
After a while, Jimmy asked Roland, "What scenes did Chambers foresee? Can you tell in detail?"
Roland: "Chambers didn't see much, just that in his vision, the gun you were holding was mine."
Jimmy: "So, this must be a prophecy of the future where I will get your gun and die in so incident, right?"
Roland: "Yes."
Jimmy: "Is there a ti fra? Approximate ti? Any other information?"
Roland: "No, Chambers said it was all a fog, he couldn't see who was opposite you."
Jimmy: "Alright, I understand. Where is Chambers? I would like to et him if there's a chance in the future."
Roland: "No, Jimmy, if Chambers wanted to see you, he would have looked for you during his last visit, but he didn't. So, if he needs to contact you, he will, don't go looking for him."
Jimmy was disappointed, but quickly adjusted his attitude; he had co here primarily to confirm about the paintings, and knowing they depicted him was an unexpected discovery.
As for when he would get Roland's gun, he didn't plan to ask. During the recent hunting, Roland was still carrying his two trusted guns, clearly his most reliable partners, and Jimmy believed if he asked about it, it would definitely result in a gun pointed at his head.
Anyway, since his objective was achieved, Jimmy wasn't asking for too much more. Knowing he was the person in the paintings, he just took note and didn't worry overly. After all, everyone dies soti, especially since he was already facing various ard suspects and had been shot a few days ago.
Jimmy reached out, picked up the envelope and two paintings from the table, put the paintings back into the envelope, and then placed it back in his pocket.
Jimmy: "I've figured out everything I needed to, Roland, thank you."
Roland: "Are you leaving? Stay for lunch, I caught a big deer."
Jimmy looked at Roland and nodded, "Thank you."
Seeing Jimmy nod, Roland stood up, took two knives from the kitchen, and walked outside. Jimmy followed him to the stone slab by the small dock to watch Roland butcher the deer.
Roland was very skilled in his movents, clearly having done this many tis before.
Next to the stone slab lay an ax and a bone chopping knife. It didn't take long for Roland to butcher the deer. He carried so of the at into the house to refrigerate, while he chopped up the rest of the unwanted parts and directly threw them into the lake. Jimmy scratched his head, wondering whether such scrap material should be buried instead. Maybe this lake had so carnivorous fish?
Roland then brought out a grill from the house, and it appeared they were going to have a barbecue. Jimmy just watched from the sidelines as Roland went in and out preparing.
As Roland started to burn the charcoal, Jimmy realized that the big chunks of at were cut like steak without being cut into smaller pieces, which looked very rugged.
Fortunately, there were also so vegetables. It seed that Roland wasn't completely isolated here; those vegetables couldn't just be easily grown by anyone, and besides, Jimmy hadn't seen any vegetable gardens around.
Jimmy watched Roland busy himself the entire ti without intervening. From Roland's deanor, it was clear that although Roland had previously told him not to co back because he wasn't Jimmy, he actually still missed Jimmy quite a bit.
