"Age? What’s wrong with age? A man at 46 is still young, okay? And Jas keeps himself looking so well, saying he’s 46, no one would believe it. If Maya gets chard by him, don’t bla for not warning you."
"Besides, just look at him. When have you ever seen Jas smiling so happily at anyone else? He was even helping Maya take off her coat, folding her clothes, ordering snacks, and personally serving them to her. Have you seen that before?"
Christopher beca anxious. Since the first ti he saw Maya, he considered her his sister-in-law. Seeing another man fawning over her, he feared Maya might be swayed.
Liam looked at Christopher’s flustered deanor, shook his head helplessly, and said, "Christopher, relax, I trust Maya."
After Liam spoke, he glanced at Jas and Maya. He noticed Jas’s smile was warm, while Maya’s was awkward.
At the elegant seat by the window, Maya listened to Jas saying she resembled her mother, feeling embarrassed and unwilling to engage more with the man in front of her.
So she put down her cup, grabbed her clothes, and smiled, saying, "Chairman Bennett, my third brother is still waiting for over there, I’ll be going now."
Maya didn’t wait for Jas’s approval and swiftly got up, heading toward Liam and Christopher.
She tightly bit her lower lip, her brow furrowed, thinking to herself; it was strange since she was never a girl who attracted much attention, and now attracting a legendary figure’s interest was bizarre.
Maya quickly walked to Liam, her small hands gripping his arm tightly, delicately calling out, "Third brother."
Liam saw the panic in Maya’s eyes, the corner of his mouth lifted with a hint of smile, and he ruffled her hair, asking, "Why so panicked? Is there anyone you’re afraid of?"
Listening to Liam’s sarcastic tone, Maya rolled her eyes and said, "Chairman Bennett is weird. He said he knew my mother and ntioned we’re destined, wanting to be friends."
After Maya finished speaking, she turned to glance at Jas, who was also looking at her.
Their eyes t again, Maya forced a smile and nodded toward him.
Nearby, Christopher watched Jas’s attentive gaze toward Maya, gritting his teeth angrily, thinking, Jas, what are you up to? Doesn’t he know Maya is the third brother’s fiancée?
Christopher wasn’t happy. He grabbed Liam’s arm, saying, "Third brother, see, wasn’t I right? Jas actually said he wants to be friends with Maya. Have you ever seen such a strange thing? Have you seen him actively trying to be friends with anyone before?"
Maya looked at Christopher’s outburst, her big eyes staring directly at him, and suddenly understood the implication in his words.
She took a deep breath, lifted her small hands to hold her face, muttering to herself, "No way!"
She never expected that such a small incident earlier would make Jas feel ’moved.’ Maya felt embarrassed and dared not think more about it; after all, that man hadn’t actually done anything or said much other than wanting to be friends.
Maya didn’t dare to think deeply. Since hearing the na Jas, she regarded him as an elder, like Old Master Spencer or her second uncle.
So she quickly looked at Christopher, shook her head, and said, "Christopher, don’t overthink. It’s just the first ti I’ve t Chairman Bennett. Don’t say such things, it will make others laugh."
Maya was afraid, if Christopher spoke carelessly and things weren’t as he envisioned, she’d be the one embarrassed, and others would only mock her for being delusional.
This, she absolutely can’t afford to lose face over.
Moreover, she had never been much of an attraction to the opposite sex, except for Liam and Henry who once liked her, she had never been pursued by anyone, even though she is quite beautiful.
Therefore, Maya dismissed those awkward thoughts from her head, to avoid making a fool of herself.
Liam looked at the two people in front of him, one boiling with anger, the other’s face flushed, unable to resist wanting to laugh.
So, he sighed helplessly and said, "Christopher, you’re overthinking. Chairman Bennett isn’t like that; he wouldn’t make a move on Maya. The reason he’s looking at Maya is just because they have a connection."
"Exactly! Exactly! Christopher, stop talking nonsense. He’s 46, his children might even be older than , so don’t make wild guesses." Maya chid in anxiously, afraid Christopher would blow things out of proportion.
"Children? Sweetheart, don’t you know Chairman Bennett has never been married and doesn’t have kids? He’s a golden bachelor, with many won hoping to snag him, but he’s never looked at anyone differently."
"Sweetheart, you’re quite capable! You only t Chairman Bennett for the first ti, and he’s already so fond of you." Christopher reflected while appraising Maya from head to toe.
Maya was dressed very simply today, jeans, sneakers, a small jacket, earlier wearing a bulky down jacket making her look like a bun. Besides being pretty, she had no other... sex... appeal whatsoever today. How did she attract attention? Christopher was puzzled.
"Christopher, are you here for work exchange or to gossip?" Liam was unhappy seeing Christopher clinging onto the matter.
He wasn’t actually blaming Christopher for overthinking, he just disliked the misunderstanding between Maya and Jas, and this misunderstanding was simply absurd. Even if Jas was indeed a golden bachelor, he’d permit Christopher to speculate about him and any other girl, but not Maya.
"Anyway, I’ve said my piece. Believe it or not, that’s your business, but I just find Chairman Bennett very strange." Christopher rolled his eyes, turned around, and went to find Hudson.
Liam just ntioned a lot of things, and one he agreed with: he ca here to talk about work, not engage in gossip.
In the end, as long as Liam has confidence, other matters don’t concern her.
Maya gazed at Christopher’s departing silhouette, pouted, and sighed, "Third brother, Christopher cares so much about , I can’t bear to tell him Seven already has a target. Oh..."
Seeing the girl’s sentintal mood, Liam pinched her cheeks and said, "He knew sooner than you, no need to worry, just let things take their course."
"Third brother, do you think Seven and Christopher might actually be finished? From what I gather, Seven seems quite interested in the guy called Ian Hobbs." Maya had always hoped Seven could reconcile with Christopher, but hearing that Seven fancied soone, she was a bit disheartened.
"Christopher really t a formidable opponent this ti, but these things aren’t for you to worry about. Seven is an adult; she knows what she wants, and we cannot interfere." Liam smiled while pinching her cheeks.
"I understand the reasoning, but there’s still regret in my heart!" Maya said, still a bit helpless.
"Silly, life inevitably has regrets. For instance, I’m so busy today that I didn’t find ti to be with you, and I feel regretful too." Liam gently drew Maya into his embrace and kissed her forehead.
