The music fountain at the center continued, and soone lit fireworks in the open space.
In the corner, tree branches hung low, carrying lanterns, and light perated the pitch-black night.
Hayes Edwards originally thought Grace Winter would wait for him here while he went to get the car, but when he turned around, he saw the young girl looking sleepy.
Her expression was dazed, staring blankly at the street ahead, occasionally yawning, with tears welling up in her eyes, and her eyeballs already turning red.
Her reaction was a bit sluggish, "Hayes Edwards, why aren’t you moving?"
Hayes couldn’t help but smile, "I’m tired of walking so slowly with you." He walked to her, bent down, "Co on, let carry you."
Grace Winter’s eyes widened, but she didn’t move.
Hayes turned his head and urged, "Co on, before I change my mind, and you’ll have to spend the night here alone."
"No," Grace quickly walked over, reached out to clasp his neck, pressed close to his back, hugging him tightly, and softly said, "Hayes Edwards, please don’t leave again."
The girl was so light, Hayes barely exerted any effort to lift her up, "When did I ever leave you?"
He took steady steps, his voice mildly deepened, carrying a hint of laughter.
The night wind was cold, wrapped in moisture.
Grace Winter nearly buried her entire face in the scarf, revealing only a pair of round eyes, "In elentary school, you said you’d wait for in the classroom, but you forgot about ."
She didn’t sound angry about rehashing old grievances, but rather a bit disappointed.
Hayes’ past mories resurfaced, and he quickly recalled the incident.
Back then, they were in the sa school building, almost going to and from school together every day. Occasionally, if he was late, Grace Winter would wait in the classroom for him.
That must have been the first ti he unintentionally forgot her in the classroom.
There were many tis before when he wanted to shake off the clingy Grace Winter, but actually losing her that ti brought him guilt rather than joy.
"If I forget about you, you’re allowed not to wait for ."
"No way, I promised I’d wait for you, so I have to wait."
The tone was the sa as when they were young.
Hayes smiled slightly and tightened his grip, "Alright, from now on, I won’t forget you, nor will I leave you."
Grace hugged his neck and moved forward a little, "Do you really an it?"
Hayes lowered his head to look at her shadow on the ground, "I an it."
"Wait a minute," said Grace.
Before Hayes could ask what for, he heard a rustling sound near his ear.
Grace Winter took off her gloves, extended her warm hands, "Let’s make a pinky promise."
Hayes paused, then couldn’t help but laugh, "I’m carrying you, how can we make a promise?"
Grace thought for a mont, "Then put down first."
Hayes followed her instructions.
Just after landing, Grace eagerly took his hand, "Let’s make a pinky promise, no one is allowed to break it, and no one can lie."
As childish as ever.
Hayes made the promise with her, reciting the words of "no change for a hundred years."
Actually, thinking about it, for a long ti, he had been playing those dull and childish gas with Grace Winter, whether it was playing house or with dolls.
It was like that back then, and it still was now.
By the ti they arrived ho, it was nearing four in the morning, Grace had fallen asleep in the car, so Hayes had to carry her.
