She was happily eating a drumstick, taking big bites.
Hearing what was said behind him, Hayes Edwards understood a little.
Grace Winter’s family had new plans, and perhaps she wouldn’t stay in the city when it was ti for her to start middle school.
In that instant, Hayes couldn’t quite pinpoint what he was feeling. He only felt his breath pause for a brief mont, and there was a buzzing sound in his ears, the sound was very clear yet unclear.
Very agitated, a bit angry, but not at Grace Winter, angry at himself.
The little tag-along was leaving, he should be happy.
Yes, happy!
He looked at Grace Winter beside him. She was eating with rice on her face and still smiled sweetly at him, her eyes curved like crescents.
"Hayes Edwards, let’s toast." She held a cup with both hands, imitating adults to toast with him.
Hayes got more agitated, but he didn’t know why his temper dispersed as soon as he t her gaze.
A carefree little fool.
He also picked up a glass and clinked it with hers.
"Cheers!"
She laughed, showing two shallow dimples on her cheeks.
In September, Hayes Edwards started school, officially becoming a first-year middle school student, and the classroom moved from the old building to the composite building.
Rising Sun Middle School’s composite building was specially prepared for middle school students, almost twice the size of a regular building, with more classrooms, and equipped with science labs, computer rooms, music rooms, and art rooms.
On the first day of school, the class distribution was posted downstairs in the composite building.
Hayes Edwards was placed in Class Six, and so was Little Chubby.
"Great, Brother Edwards, we’re in the sa class again!"
Other boys who played with them were either in their class or next door, all on the first floor.
Upon starting middle school, wearing the old elentary uniforms was obviously not an option. Now, everyone had standardized oversized sportswear, and it was mandatory to wear it as long as you were in school.
School uniforms and pants couldn’t be missing.
Unlike elentary school, where only the Monday flag-raising ceremony required student uniforms.
Little Chubby compared the newly issued uniform against himself, "This isn’t good-looking either, both girls and boys have the sa style."
Hayes Edwards sat on the side, too lazy to unpack, "If you don’t like it, you can wear your old uniform back."
The elentary uniform was much nicer, girls wore skirts, boys wore pants, complete with bows and ties, contrasting sharply with the oversized uniforms.
But wearing it in middle school would be sowhat inappropriate.
Little Chubby scratched his head, chuckling, "I was just worrying it might ruin Brother Edward’s image."
But the truth was, with Hayes Edwards’ face, he’d look good even wearing a sack.
At Monday’s freshman welco ceremony, amidst the copy-paste students, Hayes Edwards stood out, and soon people were asking for his na.
"Hayes Edwards, he’s not easy to deal with, even dared to challenge middle schoolers back in elentary, beat them up until they cried for their parents."
"Does he fight? That’s scary!"
"No, he plays basketball."
The student asking around looked at a loss with silence on top.
The boy embarrassedly scratched his head, "Anyway, Hayes Edwards doesn’t have the best temper, don’t provoke him, and he’s not gentle with girls either."
A few students were half-believing, half-doubting.
After the day ended, sohow that conversation got spread around.
