Hannah was startled, instinctively clutching her bag and taking a small step back.

The woman and the boy knelt before Hannah, begging with a rusty, battered bowl in their hands, "Miss, you kind hearted lady, please show rcy on us. My son and I haven’t eaten for days. We beg you to spare us sothing."

As the woman spoke, she gestured for the boy beside her to bow their heads.

Both were dressed in tattered clothes, as though they had been worn for years in a trash heap. Their faces were covered in mud, obscuring their features, yet their eyes glead with greed at the sight of Hannah, as if they were seeing food.

The boy seed unwilling to bow to Hannah, trying several tis to wriggle free from the woman’s grip. The woman, annoyed, smacked the boy’s back several tis.

Hannah watched, her brow furrowed in disapproval, "I don’t have any money."

The woman was startled but quickly resud pleading, "Miss, it’s hard for a single mother like . My child’s father is a scoundrel; he would lash out at us when he is drunk. He landed in jail for committing a cri a few years ago, and we were burdened with his debt. Our ho was emptied out..."

The woman’s sobs were so loud that they began to attract passersby who gathered from afar to watch the spectacle.

Only the young boy kneeled on the ground, his eyes hard and unyielding. He glared at Hannah with intense hatred, as if she were his sworn enemy.

He was like a young wolf cub.

His eyes were filled with resolute determination.

Hannah found it intriguing. Unlike the typical street child, she took a liking to the boy.

Nevertheless, his so-called "mother" was increasingly becoming a headache for her. Hannah frowned, "Have you finished?"

Her voice was naturally soft, yet it conveyed a subtle chill when she was genuinely annoyed or frustrated.

Like an ice cube under the sun, emanating coldness. It would not seem freezing at first, but a sense of pressure lingered after careful reflection.

She calmly retorted: "That’s your story, no matter how tragic, what does it have to do with ?"

The woman stopped crying on instinct, looking at Hannah in disbelief.

She had assud Hannah was easy to manipulate, yet her words were brutally frank and hurtful.

"You... how can you be so cold-hearted?" The woman cried, "I saw it clearly just now. You gave those brats hundred yuan each. They used that money to rescue animals, but now you turn a blind eye to the two living beings before you. Look everyone, is this humane?"

The woman rose from the ground, stirring up the surrounding crowd, pressuring Hannah.

However, most people were just there for the show. They would not interfere unless it affected them, and yet they enjoyed the gossip.

"Youngsters these days indeed lack the compassion we had back in our days, most of them are so cold-blooded. It’s all because they’re spoilt at ho."

"Well, it’s not necessarily like that. It’s her money after all, she has the right to give or not. Who has set the rule that you must help if you feel pity for soone?"

"If it were , I would just give away so spare change. It doesn’t look like this young lady is short on money, after all, she gave several hundred yuan to those students who were rescuing dogs and cats."
