Chapter 1229: Chapter 1157: Drawing Circles

Liu Jinghui followed Jiang Yuan’s steps, mapping out the routes in the vicinity.

Yuan Bomian, on the other hand, was busy collecting the nearby surveillance footage, which was a ticulous task. Comparatively, the caras from police-community cooperation were easy to access, but the monitors installed by so small stores were troubleso. So of them used ho surveillance like Xiaomi, perhaps just to watch over the cash register or their goods. The managent wasn’t strict, and the stored videos were a ss, so they might need to be brought back and organized before they could be useful.

In fact, Yuan Bomian himself wasn’t sure what use these videos would have once collected.

However, since Jiang Yuan wanted them, he had no hesitation.

If the videos proved useless, that was normal. It wouldn’t be ideal for Jiang Yuan to be at a loss for surveillance footage when needed.

Yuan Bomian speculated that Jiang Yuan might want to check the suspect’s mode of transport, specifically instructing, “Even if the traffickers separate people from goods, there ultimately needs to be soone to place the drugs at the transaction site. This person will most likely use a vehicle, so collect the surveillance around the roads thoroughly…”

“Yes.” The subordinates responded sowhat perfunctory.

Yuan Bomian continued with a few more instructions, emphasizing, “So surveillance caras have been in place for so long that the owners might have forgotten them, so rember to collect those too. Like the security caras in parking huts, those integrated with our police system, and others ant for viewing on security room computers should be collected as well. Also, nearby spots like elevator caras, which aren’t visible when going up but can be seen when the doors open on the way down…”

“Got it, Captain Yuan.” The team mbers were beginning to find the captain’s verbosity grating, their tone quite stiff.

Yuan Bomian helplessly said, “Don’t get annoyed by my nagging. The more peculiar the cara positions are, the less likely the suspects are to think of them, and they might just get caught on tape, right?”

“Got it, Captain Yuan!” The subordinates’ tone beca even stiffer.

Nearby, Wei Shikan was idly and playfully translating remarks, “They probably genuinely find you verbose.”

Yuan Bomian glanced at Wei Shikan, “Don’t I know that?”

The team mbers also glared at Wei Shikan, “Mind your business, kid. Even if Captain Yuan is long-winded, we wouldn’t actually say that out loud.”

“Okay, okay, I’m the one who’s chatty,” Wei Shikan scuttled away, blending back with the Criminal Police Brigade, lanting, “Drug enforcent is really hard to get along with. I thought we’d bounce so ideas off each other, but there’s no spirit of fun. Have you ever felt the sa?”

“Sotis, Shi Kan.” The criminal policen’s tone gave Wei Shikan a sense of déjà vu.

Liu Jinghui, having followed Jiang Yuan through several streets, also began to feel a sense of déjà vu, and couldn’t help but say, “The roads around these new developnts all look similar. Are we just checking one street after another to find a suspect’s inevitable route?”

“If there’s such a path, that would be great,” Jiang Yuan shrugged.

Liu Jinghui laughed, “These roads here are interconnected, and they’re all new, with barely any heavily trafficked routes or dead ends.”

“I’m considering that issue too,” Jiang Yuan said while observing the surroundings, “If you were the trafficker, would you choose a route with few or many people when coming in and out of this area?”

This was a reasoning problem, which perked up Liu Jinghui’s spirits. After so thought, he said, “The advantage of choosing a crowded route is that it’s easy to blend in with the crowd. There are fewer caras here, and it’s a suburb area absorbed by the city, with a mixed and mobile population. Choosing a busy route makes it less likely to be noticed and allows for higher error tolerance. The downside is, if discovered, escaping is difficult since crowded routes are typically narrow remodelled roads, often clogged with electric bicycles and street vendors. If you get unlucky and get blocked, escape is nearly impossible.”

Zhongxin Road is a major thoroughfare and a main route connecting the city to the Five-point Pavilion. However, conditions on either side of Zhongxin Road are more complicated, with newly opened, wide, and straight roads that are less traveled, as well as renovated roads based on county or rural roads where traffic conditions deteriorate drastically.

Jiang Yuan chuckled, “High tolerance for mistakes, but hard to run if you slip up, thus reducing the actual error tolerance.”

“It depends on how you see it. For less populated routes, the pros and cons are the opposite: low error tolerance with tis where there might only be one vehicle on the road, making it easy for surveillance to spot them. But escape is easy… Though in our dostic environnt, once identified, it’s tough.”

“Not necessarily. For traffickers, with prepped safe houses or escape routes, there’s a certain chance of evading capture,” Jiang Yuan, familiar with manhunts, sumd up. In short, unplanned escapes are extrely difficult, but prepared ones, including leaving province or national borders, or hiding in a well-stocked safe house for a long ti, do have a chance of success.

However, regardless of the plan, ample money is needed for preparations. Fleeing abroad requires significant costs for travel and human smugglers. Safe houses are even more challenging; while renting overseas properties for that purpose is feasible, dostically it’s difficult with landlords and neighbours potentially causing trouble. Ideally, owning a property and preparing lots of supplies to regularly swap out would demand considerable space and significant expenses.

Liu Jinghui’s thoughts were more straightforward; shaking his head, he said, “If considering low-populated areas for easy escape, there’s no need to et here. Plenty of remote countryside spots are available for trades. Choosing a mountainous area with fewer trees allows for watching out for followers from a hilltop, conducting trades on the peaks, making it clean and easy.”

“So, you lean towards suspects taking crowded routes,” Jiang Yuan asked.

“Yeah. I think the right choice is crowded routes to avoid detection primarily. Another reason suspects might choose this area could be familiarity or residing or working nearby,” Liu Jinghui speculated, “As previously ntioned, traffickers making such big money can’t keep it all in the banks. They won’t just bury their millions in cash. They’d need to spend. Lanyue City has a lot going on for that.”

Jiang Yuan slowly nodded.

Liu Jinghui, worried Jiang Yuan didn’t get it, whispered again, “The Film City.”

“Money laundering?” Jiang Yuan started to grasp.

Liu Jinghui sighed, “Liu Wenkai.”

“Oh…” Jiang Yuan understood instantly.

“Of course, it could be gambling or other things,” Liu Jinghui shifted the conversation, “Does this help capture them?”

“No,” Jiang Yuan shrugged, “From that angle, Captain Yuan should have pursued it before.”

“They probably ran, but we can ask again. Drugs and vices often intermingle; traffickers need lives too,” Liu Jinghui paused, suggesting, “Or make a list of tis Brother Li and Fatty traded and see if anyone repeatedly appears nearby. It’s a dumb approach, but could it work?”

Jiang Yuan thought for a mont, “It’s a bit too foolish.”

Liu Jinghui didn’t mind his idea being rejected, adapting to such experiences over the years, curiously asking, “How foolish?”

Jiang Yuan explained, “Firstly, considering they separate people from goods ans the delivery might not even be the suspect themselves, could be a courier, possibly a different one each ti. If so, this thod fails.”

Jiang Yuan continued, “Secondly, even if the delivery personnel is unchanged, their timing isn’t fixed. They could deliver 30 minutes or even a day earlier, resulting in a huge investigation range.”

Jiang Yuan elaborated, “Thirdly, the geographical aspect also involves a vast scope. If their trading spots vary, gathering tons of footage from different tis and locations is required…”

Contemplating the workload, Jiang Yuan couldn’t help but shake his head.

“Okay. So you’re saying, even tons of manpower won’t sort it out?” Liu Jinghui asked.

“At least not in that way.”

“What about Xu Taining?”

Jiang Yuan laughed, “You’re too hard on him…”

After a brief pause, Jiang Yuan thought again, uncertain, and shook his head once more, “The current information is too scant; the natural flaw remains ineffective.”

“So what’s your plan?”

“By geographical profiling principles, we draw circles around transaction sites, with their intersection as the suspect’s residence or workplace,” Jiang Yuan shared a theoretical approach, suggesting, “How about we implent this theory?”
