"Father is inside. Please wait here. I will ask him if he would like to et with you." Kakashi said formally. His voice was tense. The gate in between us was not completely covered. So he could easily see and the things I was holding. I guess the current rumours of the village were already affecting him very much.
"Okay." I didn't argue. After I agreed he imdiately went back to his house. It was Sunday so the Academy should be closed. So I was not surprised to find him here. After he went inside, I had to stand there for a couple of minutes before both father and son ca out.
"Usagi, what are you doing here ?" Sakumo asked, surprised.
"Well, today was my day off. So I thought I would visit you. I wanted to talk to you about sothing." I told him cheerfully.
"Oh, okay. Then co inside. Sorry if Kakashi behaved rudely." Sakumo said politely before inviting into his house. It was a classic Japanese style house, made of wood.
"By the way, why did you bring these things ? There was no need for these formalities." Sakumo told when I handed him over the fruit basket along with the book.
"Oh these ? They are nothing. Actually I found this book very interesting. So I wanted to give it to Kushina chan as a gift, for sharing her fuinjutsu techniques with . But there was an exclusive offer going on and I bought three of them under the 'buy two and get one free' offer yesterday. This book is really good. So I thought I would give it to you since I already have one." I explained to him. He took to a room on the other side of his house, in front of the courtyard.
"So, what exactly did you want to talk about ?" Sakumo asked tiredly.
Instead of answering I just looked at Kakashi for a brief mont. Sakumo understood my gesture. "Kakashi, can you prepare tea for our guests ?" Sakumo asked him.
"Of course father." Kakashi, being an obedient son, left the room. But he didn't go to the kitchen, instead he hid just behind the door, trying to listen to our conversation, the mont he heard my words.
"It is about your mission." I told Sakumo, knowing that Kakashi was listening to our conversation.
Sakumo's eyes widened for a mont before his expression turned utterly defeated. Just from the look I could tell that he wanted to talk about anything else then his mission.
"Well, I should go straight to the point. I don't want you to feel bad. First of all, this is classified information. So I can't tell you everything. But there was a spy related to the operation that had already leaked the information about your mission to the hidden stone. If you would have chosen to complete the mission, then not only your entire team but also you, would have lost your life without even completing the mission." I told Sakumo.
His dull eyes widened in shock.
"I can't tell you the details since I don't even know about everything. But I just wanted to tell you that don't listen to what other people are saying. I an a guy who has never seen a horse would probably say that it has 6 legs doesn't an that a horse actually has 6 legs. Ever since I ca back from the front lines, I have been hearing these wrong rumours about you. And considering that your mission was classified, there are definitely more spies inside the village then we had ever realized." I paused for a mont to let him absorb the information.
"You are saying that this might be the enemy's plot...." Sakumo asked in disbelief.
"Well I am not sure but, anything else doesn't make any sense. You are the second strongest person in the village right now. So obviously it would be an enemy who would spread those rumours among the civilians and the shinobi.
I shouldn't be telling you anything. But it didn't sit right with . Since your mission was classified, hokage sama will not release any official statent. And personally, I think you made the right decision. The life of my comrades is obviously more important than any S ranked mission. But normal people will never understand this. Especially lower ranking shinobi and civilians. I didn't want you to feel guilty. So I ca to visit you." I told Sakumo. Around that mont, Kakashi finally left to brew tea for us. What I just told is one half truth and half life that I have reached according to my conclusions. Seeing that the dullness of his eyes were disappearing slowly, I was assured that Sakumo was slowly regaining his fire.
"Thank you, Usagi chan. You just lifted an unknown weight from my shoulders. But, it is not about that I am worried about. I had already prepared for all the consequences that I might face when I took the decision to abandon the mission. I am more worried about Kakashi. He is suffering because of my mistake." Sakumo told with a heavy sigh.
"..... Well I am not an expert in these things. But people forget as ti passes. So I think you should take so rest in the house. And by the way I wanted you to ask for so tips on swordsmanship. You can take this ti to teach if you want. Or you can read that book that I gave you." I said hurriedly.
"Hahahahaha..... Thank you for your company. I will definitely give it a try. And about training you in swordsmanship..... well as you said I have a lot of free ti. And I have no problem teaching you. So as long as you take the permission from Princess Tsunade, I am ready to teach you my techniques." Sakumo said with a small smile. It was actually easier than I thought.
We talked for so more ti before I drank the tea that Kakashi had brought and left their estate.

After reading the book, Sakumo Hatake had suddenly decided to retire early from his shinobi career and officially apologize to the entire hidden population and admitted that he didn't have the proper mindset of a shinobi despite his achievents. After this public declaration, even Hiruzen had to share the bla by publicly declaring that it was the fault of a spy who had leaked the information of his information to the enemies to keep his own image intact.
But that was not all. According to his spy, after reading the book, Hiruzen had lost his interest in him. Even in the ti of War Hiruzen used to co to him secretly to et him and spend so quality ti with him. But after reading the book, Hiruzen has transford into a completely straight man out of nowhere. He even beca really angry with Danzo when he approached him last night. And today in the morning, he received the news that Biwako has gotten pregnant again.
Apart from the hokage and Sakumo, a lot of people have also changed in the hidden leaf village after that book ca out. Most of the kunoichis who were married or in a relationship looked extrely happy with a strange glow on their faces every morning. Even the Jinjuriki of the nine tails, was not an exception. In fact just in the last few days, there has been a sudden increase in reported pregnancy in the hidden Leaf hospital. The overall atmosphere among both civilians and shinobi has been lively.
And the reason behind all of this chaos was this simple book.
"Hmph ! No matter what, I want the real na of the author of this book on my table by tomorrow morning !" Danzo ordered his subordinates, before picking up the book himself. Being a cautious rat he opened his Sharingan to see if there was any genjutsu sealed inside the book.
