How do you anger two people at the sa ti with a single action?
The answer: trick them, then pat your butt and run.
Shinji literally patted twice, hoisted his broken sword, and strode away with a "six-relations-be-damned" gait.
If it were just Kakuzu, he might have continued testing his luck.
But after failing, he had successfully attracted Konan's hatred as well.
One against two wasn't entirely unwinnable.
But winning offered no real benefit, and losing would be catastrophic.
Shinji just wanted to quietly farm his Cursed Spirits for now, not get tangled with the Akatsuki, a real big problem.
If it weren't for the fact that soone had stolen his monster and pissed him off, he wouldn't have ssed with Kakuzu in the first place.
Now he'd successfully blown up one of Kakuzu's hearts and, in the process, scored a hit on Konan as well. He felt that at least so of his anger had been vented.
So he decided to let Kakuzu and Konan slide for the mont, planning to settle the score later.
Of course, his "magnanimity" didn't impress either of them.
On the contrary, it seed like they weren't willing to let him go!
Konan flew straight toward him from the air, and Kakuzu swung his arms in long strides as he started the chase.
Seeing this, Shinji "kindly" warned, "You two are lucky today. Run along, or next ti I'll teach you a proper lesson."
Kakuzu's anger flared, and he laughed, "No need for next ti. I want to see right now how you'd teach us a lesson."
"You said it yourself. No regrets?"
"If I don't kill you today, I'll regret it!"
"Fine."
After saying that, Shinji actually stopped running. He turned back with a serious expression toward Kakuzu and Konan, and sohow, he had a finely crafted card in his hand.
This unexpected move instantly raised both Kakuzu's and Konan's guard. They instinctively slowed their steps, suspecting Shinji might be about to use so strange forbidden technique.
While they hesitated, Shinji didn't.
He focused a bit of cursed energy into the card, activating it. In the next mont, a small zombie, barely over half a ter tall, dressed in an official's robe and blushing, appeared out of thin air.
The little zombie had an extrely cute face, with a talisman on its forehead.
As Shinji locked his intent onto Kakuzu, the zombie skillfully removed the talisman, stared at Kakuzu with big, black, glossy eyes, and—spoke?!
"You unlucky kid, be careful you don't faceplant~"
After speaking, it licked its fingers, put the talisman back on its forehead, and disappeared.
Whoa!
A zombie that actually talks?!
And it had a distinct dialect!
And that smooth talisman handling—what the hell was that?!
So arrogant… aren't you afraid of the Nine Uncles sending their disciples after you?!
Shinji was montarily overwheld by how ridiculous the scene was.
Clearly, this was the card he had drawn from the lottery: "Mischief Imp's Temporary Curse Card ×1"
[Mischief Imp's Temporary Curse Card]
Effect: Guaranteed to trip on flat ground while walking
Duration: Five minutes
PS: I don't know if it's cute, but my advice is—protect your face.
…The way it worked, however, was far beyond his expectations.
Even after the little zombie vanished, Kakuzu and Konan remained on high alert, still sowhat bewildered.
What just happened?
Was that strange kid so sort of summoned entity?
No, it didn't seem like it—and how did it just vanish?
"Hmph, cheap trick!"
Kakuzu thought he'd seen through Shinji's trick and imdiately took a step forward.
Then—thud!
He slipped and faceplanted.
On his left arm, three Masked Monsters were charging energy. Since his severed right arm hadn't been recovered yet, Kakuzu's fall was truly embarrassing—his face smashed into the ground.
"Pfft…"
Shinji couldn't help but laugh.
He hadn't run this ti because he wanted to see the card's actual effect, and so far, it worked perfectly.
Kakuzu, now thoroughly humiliated, had no idea who to vent his frustration on.
He got up quickly, took a step, and—thud again!
Another faceplant. This ti harder—he even lost a tooth.
"What… what kind of jutsu is this?" Kakuzu, bleeding from the mouth, demanded.
"Beg , and I'll tell you. Heh heh."
No one answered. Shinji smirked and walked away.
"Don't think you can run!"
Kakuzu was certain he'd been hit by so kind of technique, probably linked to the strange child that appeared earlier.
A mass of black lines coalesced into eight tentacles, functioning as legs to move him forward.
Thud!
Kakuzu fell again.
Konan frowned, seemingly weighing her options. Kakuzu beca anxious, "Go! Don't let him escape!"
Konan sighed internally, then finally pursued.
With the area cleared of bystanders, Kakuzu hesitated once more, and tried again.
Step… forward… and—thud!
Ouch. His nose ached from the fall, and Kakuzu finally gave up.
How did this guy manage such a walking technique that forces you to keep faceplanting?
Luckily, even standing still, Kakuzu could do quite a lot.
After a mont, the black lines extended, precisely retrieving his missing right arm and starting to stitch it back together.
At that mont, a shadow suddenly reappeared.
"Bold!"
Kakuzu realized Shinji must have slipped past Konan and returned first to deal with him.
He was immobile, essentially a live target!
Estimating the distance and Shinji's speed, there was no way he could prevent a final shot.
Kakuzu didn't sit idly by. Two Masked Monsters jumped off his back and launched jutsu at Shinji.
He himself used Earth Release: Earth Spear, hardening his skin to enhance defense.
"Red Blood Manipulation: Supernova!"
Compressed blood shot out like a shotgun, a barrage of powerful projectiles.
Kakuzu was hit directly, letting out a muffled groan.
The blood bullets didn't pierce his defense, but the impact pushed him backward.
That backward motion—trouble.
Kakuzu lost balance and was about to faceplant again.
