770: Chapter 303: The Big Secret 770: Chapter 303: The Big Secret The Red Leaf Forest Asylum is located in the northwestern suburbs of Lundan.

After driving out of the city highway and turning onto a shady path, fifty kiloters later one can see the tall periter walls of the Asylum, equipped with watchtowers at all four corners and nightti searchlights, with signs indicating a military zone, and extrely tight security.

There are as many as three checkpoints for identity checks alone, each one thoroughly inspecting vehicles, such as the trunk and undercarriage, to eliminate any possibility of patients escaping.

It’s easy for a Mage to beco one of The Forgotten: just learn too much, break your own balance, and that’s it.

But to return from being The Forgotten to a normal Mage is far more difficult.

Therefore, many enter the Red Leaf Forest Asylum but few leave, with few cases of successful treatnt.

Even if healed, because of their history, these patients are not accepted by other Mages and can only find a job within the Asylum to stay on.

In the past, when the Church of Heavenly Father was in its heyday, the Red Leaf Forest Asylum was under the jurisdiction of the Heretical Tribunal of the Windsor District, where the Holy See had the final word on who was insane and who was not.

It is hard to say whether this unwritten rule still applies today.

It goes without saying that for a normal Mage, the Red Leaf Forest Asylum represents sothing terrible.

Here it is a taboo, receiving a flyer from the Asylum is scarier than the tax departnt knocking at your door.

Wayne drove to the Red Leaf Forest Asylum and what t his eyes was an ancient castle embraced by dense woods, extending eight floors underground, confining a large number of The Forgotten who had lost their sanity.

Behind the castle lay rows of wooden cottages, where doctors, nurses, and other staff mbers reside.

The Red Leaf Forest Asylum is now owned by the Windsor Magic Departnt, but due to its unique value, the Asylum is not entirely subordinate to Windsor; other churches also have the right to appoint attending doctors.

As the Dean, Plank is also a Legendary Mage, representing Windsor to manage these Golden Mages.

Today, in order to welco his new colleague, he specially held a small eting to introduce Wayne to his future peers.

“This is the attending doctor, Brandon, from the Sun Church…”

“The attending doctor, Channing, from the Moonlight Church…”

“The head nurse, Laurie, a nun of the Church of Heavenly Father…”

Plank introduced everyone in turn, and Wayne also shook hands in succession.

Although these could be considered his own people, due to the special nature of the Crimson Leaf Forest, the Golden Mages did not participate in the internal affairs of their respective churches.

Sidney was an exception, as the Naturalism Church held sway in Windsor and maintained good relations with the Royal Family, not to ntion that when Sidney’s teacher, the Void Lord Marshall, was not mad, he had quite so connections in Lundan.

In sum, although the Red Leaf Forest Asylum is not exclusively owned by the Windsor Magic Departnt, it controls major personnel decisions, and Plank can speak out here with authority.

The short eting ended, and the Golden Mages returned to their posts.

They rarely left the Asylum and didn’t have much contact with outside information, and so they did not know much about Wayne.

Take for example Channing, the attending doctor from the Moonlight Church.

Any Silver Mage with a bit of connections would know about a guy nad Wayne who slept with the High Priest, but Channing, a Golden Mage, was unaware of this.

The others were similar, uninterested in Wayne’s background, rely welcoming the new colleague perfunctorily without the thought of even exchanging contact information.

Wayne noticed this and seriously doubted that these people were on the brink of a ntal breakdown, being in contact with too many of The Forgotten, on the verge of slipping into madness themselves.

He glanced at Plank, suspecting that the old man had ddled with sothing.

Plank had always been studying The Forgotten, and fallen Golden Mages were undoubtedly the best test subjects…

“Wayne, Austin borrowed a few patients from before, and after they returned, they all exhibited abnormalities.

Do you know what kind of research Austin was conducting?”

“I don’t know, he’s the head of a household, so he does what he wants without reporting to ,” Wayne shrugged his shoulders.

“Then never mind, it’s not important anyway.”

Plank dismissed the topic and took Wayne to the nurses’ station on the first floor of the castle, pointing at a blonde girl and said cheerfully, “A nun from the Church of Heavenly Father.

Rumor has it, she’s the illegitimate daughter of a Bishop.

Isn’t that incredible?

A man who doesn’t like little boys sohow beca a Bishop.”

After saying this, he laughed again.

Wayne didn’t laugh.

This hell of a joke was outdated; even the Devil no longer bothered using little boys to attack the clergy because it couldn’t provoke a laugh anymore.

“It’s because she’s an outsider, afraid of being ostracized, that she has to be an illegitimate daughter,” Wayne retorted, then said, “Plank, you ntioned there’s a big secret you wanted to share, that’s why I ca to work at the Red Leaf Forest.”

If this was the big secret, he could only say that the joke was average at best.

Plank looked at Wayne: his stiff beard and untidy white coat made him appear particularly comical.

If he were dressed in a patient’s uniform, being called an old madman wouldn’t be far-fetched.

At this mont, Plank’s expression turned particularly serious, as if it was ti to lay the cards on the table: “Wayne, you are now a Golden Mage, and your power ans you needn’t fear any Legendary Mage.

All my Ancient Silver Coins are in your hands, aren’t you going to share your secrets with ?”

Plank wanted to know what Wayne had seen and obtained, whether he could learn anything from Wayne.

In the past, Plank didn’t mind Wayne’s mind gas and never exposed him.

But now things were different.

Wayne had gained a sense of security, while Plank’s had been decreasing.

With both on an equal footing, it was the best mont for frankness between them.

“Plank, what do you want to know?”

“To be accurate, I don’t even know what I should know.

I have only one thought, a very vague concept…

balance…”
