After opening the Moon Spire’s door, our group went inside the tower, only to find ourselves on top of a circular platform with intricate grooves carved on it, which gave it a resemblance to the moon.
As the carved-out seams began to glow with soft blue light, the platform started moving upwards, taking us to the top floor of the spire.
The platform left us in the center of a broad, circular room. One side had boxes filled with rolled-up pieces of papyrus next to a wooden desk, and the other side had a strange gem that shifted colors every few seconds.
"Does anyone know what this place is?" I asked my group, curious to see if any of our oldest companions had a clue. However, none of them did.
I expected them not to know anything about the Moon Spire anyway since they were already unaware of the existence of this secret city, but I still asked, just in case.
The gem kept shifting between the colors in the rainbow, and I could sense so MP flowing from it. Still, it was very faint, so it didn’t seem like it would be useful.
When I tried to inspect it to get more information, our confusion beca more prominent.
"Huh...? Unknown!?" I pondered aloud.
The ability to inspect certain items could be a bit vague sotis, but it had never been completely blank, which was a bit concerning.
lina and the rest of our companions also tried inspecting the gem, but when we all got the sa results, we decided not to ss with it until we knew more about it.
As we explored the rest of the room, illuminated by the soft blue light that reflected from the carvings on the walls, I approached the desk surrounded by papyrus scrolls, which gave an idea of how ancient the place was.
Books and tos had been a common thing in this world for a few hundred years, so the fact that all this information was written in ancient scrolls made believe they had been there for at least a thousand years.
When I grabbed the scroll placed on the desk and rolled it open, my eyes widened in pure shock when I noticed the Roman letters written on it, which were not supposed to exist in this world.
People referred to the Roman alphabet as the ancient language since nobody was able to read it, except for lina and I, but the fact that it had been used in the past made it truly "ancient."
"Hmmm..." I humd as I read the scroll.
"What does it say?" lina asked.
"It’s an apology letter..." I replied.
’If anyone is reading this, the Moon Spire is still standing...
We are sorry we couldn’t complete Sage Alejandro’s request in ti...
We are sorry we couldn’t help in accomplishing his goal...
We are sorry to the world, for we have failed...’
After reading the scroll out loud, we all stayed silent for a mont, thinking about what kind of request the past sage could’ve given the mages who lived in this tower. They were apologizing to the entire world, so I assud that they must’ve ssed up pretty badly.
As we kept rolling open more of the papyrus scrolls, we began to piece together a tiline of events, and while there was no way for us to corroborate if it was correct, it was the closest we could get.
’The City of Eternal Night has been completely sealed...
Any demon with evil intent gets repelled...
We can keep working on the gem, but our ti is quite limited...’
’We have finally finished the gem, but we were too late...
We will sink along with this land...
Maybe one day, our work will see the surface again...’
It seed like the moon mages were working on the gem, whatever it was for, but their work never got to see the day of light as the entire continent was sunk to the bottom of the ocean.
Suddenly, Vespera caught my attention when she grabbed a piece of papyrus curled into a ball, unfolding it and revealing a small blue stone.
The rock wasn’t as shiny as the gem, but it still had a pretty vibrant color. Moreover, I could feel a small amount of MP flowing from it, so I grabbed it to inspect it.
’A certain kind of magic!?’ I thought.
The stone was supposed to be holding a person’s mories, and the only type of magic that I knew that could look at soone’s rembrances was the magic I developed myself.
I ca up with the idea for mory magic when I wanted to erase a woman’s traumatizing experience, but it wasn’t sothing that I was proud of creating.
If people knew that I could alter their mories with my magic, they would’ve thought I was so kind of villain, so I only saved it for ergencies when it was truly needed.
However, now I was realizing that I wasn’t the first sage to co up with this idea. Sure, the mory stone was a different approach to what I did, but it was ultimately the sa type of magic.
When I closed my eyes and used mory magic to read the stone in my hand, it was as if my entire being shifted sowhere else, and I found myself looking through the point of view of a man wearing white robes, which resembled the ones that the ancient Greeks wore.
The man was standing atop a hill outside of G’Henna’s castle, so I could tell that we were in the Lost Continent. However, compared to the obsidian rock ground that we found when we got there, the mories showed forests and fields that seemingly expanded endlessly.
I could see villages that were built around the massive castle. Birds and animals co-existing in harmony with the environnt, and a gentle breeze that felt soothing.
’Huh... So, this was the real Lost Continent,’ I thought, admiring the view that the man’s mory showed .
