As Vespera and I kept looking at the massive underwater obsidian island below us, we noticed that there was a tall wall made of the sa black rock that surrounded the island.
’Is this really a natural formation?’ I thought.
["Ichiro, move!"] Vespera shouted in my head using her telepathy.
Without saying anything else, my companion pointed her palm at and used water magic to make the water currents forcefully move about twenty ters to the side.
I turned my head to look at her but was instantly blocked as a torrent of hot, bubbly water flew up right in between us.
The water was so hot that I could feel it warming the outside of my wind sphere, and when I looked up, I noticed that the water torrent reached the surface.
["Welp, I think we know what destroyed Magnus and Bjorn’s boat..."] I said to my companion.
It turned out that Magnus was right, and it wasn’t a monster that destroyed their boat with a single attack but a volcano that blew up right below them.
Feeling like we had solved the mystery, we got out of the water and started flying back to the canoe. Still, I couldn’t shake the feeling that there was more to that island.
It certainly didn’t look like a natural formation, but this was a magical world where things I thought were impossible were possible, so I tried not to fret about it too much.
’It did look kind of familiar...’ I thought, but I couldn’t place any mories on it.
When we returned to the boat, we explained to the warriors what really happened to them, and they couldn’t believe how unlucky they were that they were passing by just as the underwater volcano erupted.
While floating in the air next to the boat, Vespera and I used water magic to make the currents go our way and move faster. anwhile, the two warriors and Gina were rowing with all their effort.
One hour later, the climate got pretty cold, and the shores of the Northern Empire were visible in the distance.
We were landing on the eastern side of the country, but the mbers of the Dawn’s Defenders who were there told they were on the western side, so it wouldn’t be that easy to get to them.
Bjorn and Magnus told that the capital was located in the center of their nation, so we could either cross the capital to go west or keep using the boat to go along the shoreline.
However, they expressed the difficulty in going through the capital, as almost everyone there was under the mind control effects of the devil.
"It won’t be as easy to trick soone there as it was in Guanghua..." Magnus said.
There was a small town on the eastern shore called "Holt," but we weren’t going to stop at the pier there, as the warriors told that it was one of the main places where slaves were received and shipped from.
Everyone who worked in that town was under the effects of the mind-controlling powers of Baelzor, and the people who weren’t under the effect were enslaved.
I wanted to help the enslaved villagers, but that would just be like announcing to the devil that I was in their country and making things more complicated for us in the long run.
The other option we had was to go through the northern mountains, which, apparently, were pretty hard to travel through, so it would be the safest way to move without being noticed.
The warriors knew the mountains like the back of their hand, and I would have been down for the hike if our circumstances weren’t so dire.
Still, it was the best path, so we decided we would use it. Nonetheless, we were going to be flying and not hiking to shorten our ti.
We ended up docking the canoe pretty far from the town of Holt, finding ourselves in the middle of a snowy forest.
The warriors told that the north only got two months without snow throughout the year, so the people who lived there were pretty used to the cold climate.
I didn’t have much of a problem with the temperature, thanks to the enchantnts on my poncho, but I knew that I would need so actual winter clothing at so point.
The worst-case scenario would be my poncho ripping apart and dying of cold, so I asked Vespera to make so winter jackets for us—by "us," I ant Gina, Vespera herself, and .
Yoru was happily playing in the snow, so it was pretty clear that he didn’t feel as cold as we did.
I only wanted a warm, simple jacket to which we could add so enchantnts, but Vespera had a pretty good sense of fashion and ended up making so pretty high-quality coats.
Sohow, she used her weaving skills to recreate the fur of an animal, but it wasn’t real fur. It was a mix of fabrics that she fused together with her powers.
The two warriors weren’t a fan of coats, but they agreed to wear so leather spaulders that Vespera made. It wasn’t to protect them from the cold but so that we could add a few enchantnts to it to shield them from physical attacks.
After eating a light al that I got from my void pocket, we began moving in the snowy forest along the coastline.
I didn’t see or sense any animal with my "search" spell, but there were plenty of white butterflies flying around that camouflaged with the snow.
Sohow, the "inspect" window was telling that the butterflies could be used as ingredients for potions.
We were in a bit of a rush to get out of the forest, but I was still curious to see what kind of use there could be for the butterflies, so I caught one with my hand and used my delivery tablet to send it to Reinar.
I was sure that he and Jen would be excited to work with a new ingredient, so it was better to leave all the alchemy stuff to them.
