After our dinner was interrupted by an earthquake in the middle of the desert, we quickly left our little base to check and took flight so the earth’s rumbling wouldn’t affect us too much.
With only the moons illuminating the dune field, we spotted a massive worm coming our way, unburrowing from the ground and going right back in it as if the earth was liquid to the monster.
It was absolutely massive, and every ti its head left the ground, a shrieking sound ca out of its mouth that reverberated in our brains, making us cover our ears tightly.
At one point, the worm burrowed and stayed underground for a minute.
"Under us!" I exclaid, seeing that my search spell was showing the monster right under us.
Suddenly, the worm appeared right under our little base and ate it whole as it launched itself high up into the air, trying to get one of us. Still, everyone in the group propelled themselves away to safety using wind magic.
I used that quick mont to inspect the worm and realized it would be a bit simpler than expected.
The monster was extrely dangerous, so now I understood why the guild wanted to send people to this remote location to take care of it.
The inspection said that it was capable of eating entire cities, and seeing the size of the monster, I believed it. Honestly, the worm could destroy all of Cactustown in re minutes if it got that far.
Still, it said that the monster was immune to earth magic and highly resistant to other types, making understand that physical damage was the way to hunt it down.
I unsheathed my mithril dagger and told everyone about the weakness of the monster, prompting them to prepare their weapons as we waited for it to unburrow again.
We descended a little more to bait the monster out, and when it appeared under lina, she spun around with the rapier while flying to the side to avoid the monster’s attack and slicing its skin.
Vespera and Yoru crashed down on it imdiately after lina’s counterattack, Yoru using his claws to rend the body while Vespera stabbed it with all of her spider legs.
Next, the battle-maids appeared, using magic to increase their movents. Gina ca down using her daggers to stab and slide down the worm’s body, leaving two gaping wounds on the side.
Carli, on the other side, stabbed the monster’s neck with her spear, turned it around to make the wound more profound, and sliced horizontally, leaving another gaping wound in its neck.
As the worm started to go back down to burrow, I launched myself at it and stabbed its head with my mithril dagger right before he reached the ground, burying along with it.
As I was holding onto the dagger, the worm took under the desert dunes, making use my own earth magic to clear so of the dirt that was getting on my face.
It felt as if I was hanging onto a flying plane or a high-speed boat while huge chunks of dirt were hitting in the face.
The worm moved extrely fast underground, so it was hard to see where I was or what was even happening, making hold tighter onto my dagger’s handle as I waited for it to unburrow again.
Feeling like the monster was moving straight, I started to slice down its head while sliding down its body, making it screech in pain and leave back to the surface in a desperate effort to get off its body.
Right as the monster launched itself up, I looked at the night sky and let myself go from it as I quickly flew away, leaving ample space for my companions to finish it off.
Targeting their previous wounds, my companions attacked simultaneously with all of their might, killing the worm and making it crash down in the dunes, producing a massive wake of sand.
Once all of the dirt and dust settled, we retrieved so pieces of the monster as proof that we had killed it and teleported back to the capital of Aridonia.
Seeing that we had finished the contract and that the worm had destroyed our little base, we saw no reason to stay the night there.
The guild was open at all tis of the day, so we turned in our quest, received our rewards, and went to the palace to rest since we still had the rooms the sultan had given us.
The following day, we checked the guild again to see if anything new had been posted, but there were no contracts above the gold rank, which was a good thing for everyone but kind of boring for us.
"Maybe it’s ti for us to visit Droman..." I said to my group, to which they agreed.
I had wanted to go back to the Droman Empire for a while since there was sothing important that I still wanted to do there. That was taking Jeniffer, the alchemist, to End Forest.
The empress and I had discussed it already, but I told her to wait for us to pass by the capital so we could teleport her and not have her travel through the Illusive Forest.
I also wanted to do sothing about that forest that cut off our nation by land from the others in the continent.
While it was a good defensive thod in case we were at war or sothing, it was only hindering Sephyr’s relations since all of the trade with neighboring countries had to be done via the sea.
My plan was to build a path that crossed the forest, giving safe passage to anyone going through it.
However, I had no idea how I would manage to do that since the illusions in that forest were no joke. Still, I believed we could find an answer if we explored it a little more.
