Chapter 370: Chapter 363: Another Infectious Disease

“Doctor Tang…” A nurse found Tang Yuxin and gently patted her shoulder.

“Mmm, what’s up?” Tang Yuxin opened her eyes. Dark circles of fatigue were all too evident beneath them.

The nurse really felt sorry for her. They had all been too tired to have a good sleep for several days. Yet, who wasn’t in such a state? Everyone was busy and worn out.

Although Tang Yuxin was not an in-house doctor at the hospital, after this experience, it seed that she could get a position at any hospital once she graduated.

But it was true that she was a genius, thus, the world of a genius was beyond the understanding of others.

“A patient has just co in, can you go check on them?”

“Okay,” Tang Yuxin got up, summoned her energy, and went to see the patient the nurse ntioned. Sotis, she forgot her own identity, and only rembered that she was a doctor. But she seed to forget she was not yet officially a doctor, she was just a student.

No wonder she sotis forgot, and much less others.

The patient had just been admitted. The nurse went through the dical records, “The patient has a fever of 39.2 degrees, he’s delirious, with high blood pressure. All other preliminary tests have returned with normal results. The patient, however, remains unconscious.”

Other doctors have examined him, but they still don’t know what’s wrong with him.

We were about to have a consultation, but given our current situation, it’s rather difficult. The chief physician asked to find you. He said you know traditional Chinese dicine and he asked if you can figure out what’s causing the patient’s persistent fever.”

Tang Yuxin went over, lifted the patient’s eyelids, shined a small flashlight into his pupils, and then started going over his dical records. The dical records seed fine, but sotis that’s the most dangerous symptom.

She put down the dical record, went over, and placed her hand on the patient’s forehead. Upon closer examination, she saw a small red dot on the patient’s forehead.

She then took the patient’s wrist and felt his pulse for a long while before letting go.

She hesitated before placing her hand back on his pulse. And just at this mont, a male doctor walked in, a hospital’s leading physician, he was in his twenties but already highly accomplished. He was a returnee from abroad, arrogant to so extent, but his arrogance was backed by his capabilities.

His competence indeed supported his arrogance.

“Has the test result co out yet?” He asked a nurse, not even glancing at Tang Yuxin.

Tang Yuxin quickly handed the report she was holding to him.

“Dr. He, this is the test report.”

She always addressed others as ‘teacher’, though she was a doctor herself, she would never forget, her present status was of a student. She set a low profile here, like a humble servant, even though she was doing a doctor’s work while living off a student’s al.

Dr. He looked at the test report and mulled it over.

Nothing abnormal, but the fever wouldn’t break. And the patient’s consciousness remained blurred.

“What do you think?” the nurse asked anxiously.

Tang Yuxin looked back and observed the small red dot on the patient’s forehead again.

Before she could say anything, Dr. He ordered, “Take him for a brain CT scan to see whether there is any bleeding in his brain.”

Then he turned to the nurse and said, “It’s probably a blood vessel in the brain. Just do a brain CT scan.”

The nurse hurried off with the patient for the brain CT scan while Tang Yuxin had a feeling that sothing was off. Based on all signs, this patient should not have a brain bleed. It was unlike a seizure patient she had seen not long ago, but sothing was just not right.

Right, she seed to have seen a disease like this before?

It seed like a thing of the past life, because it was such a long ti ago, she nearly forgot. But she still rembered, it seed like a young chap had similar symptoms back then.

She crossed her arms and tried to recall what happened back then, but she couldn’t recall despite her best efforts.

As she was walking around, she heard two nurses talking.

“I was bitten by a mosquito yesterday.”

“How could there be mosquitoes at this ti?”

“Of course, mosquitoes bit ,” the female nurse rolled up her sleeve, pointing at the red dot on her arm that was the result of a mosquito bite from the day before. It had been a small, raised bump yesterday, but it had shrunk to a red dot today.

Tang Yuxin suddenly turned around, her steps quickened.

By now, the patient had finished the scan, but the results were not out yet. Tang Yuxin went over again, looking closely at the red dot on the patient’s forehead, then took his wrist again, putting her fingers on his pulse. Indeed, it was different from usual pulses.

At first, she just felt the pulse was strange, but she didn’t know why. After all, so diseases cannot be diagnosed through pulse diagnosis.

“Imdiately get a full blood count, blood culture, and liver and kidney function tests. Fully disinfect this ward, and you all too, check if the patient has been to Africa,” she quickly ordered the nurse.

“Africa?” The nurses instantly understood, “But, Dr. Tang…” one of the nurses asked softly, “If it really is that disease, doesn’t it take several days for the symptoms to present? Right now, the patient only has a high fever, no other characteristics.”

“By the ti you find out, it will be too late,” Tang Yuxin never expected that such a thing would happen today. It was already a risky period due to the outbreak of SARS, and another contagious disease would be a disaster— a disaster that would cost many lives.

The nurses imdiately took blood samples for testing and went to investigate the patient’s circumstances.

Half an hour later, a nurse rushed in.

“Dr. Tang, we have confird, the patient did indeed go to Africa recently. He started running a fever after he ca back. They all thought he had contracted SARS.”

Now, they were waiting for the final test results. In the ward, they started to throw away disposable items and prepared to replace Tang Yuxin’s protective clothing. Thankfully, they were already in the quarantine period, so everything was done according to standard procedures. Even if this patient was indeed infected, there won’t be a great risk of contagion at the mont. The main point was, this was the early stage, as long as a diagnosis could be made promptly, there wouldn’t be any serious problem.

Soon, the test results ca in.

Indeed, it turned out to be dengue fever.
