Chapter 222: Band Together
Chapter 220
Bang—! Bang—!
Two consecutive bangs echoed through the cavern as two figures blurred forward with overwhelming speed.
They moved just as the Minotaur swung its heavy mace toward Van’s head with lethal intent.
In the next mont, the boy was grabbed roughly by the arm and yanked away just in ti.
The mace smashed into the stone where he had been standing a heartbeat before, creating an instant crater and sending a thick billow of dust into the air.
Darting to the side, the three boys collapsed onto their knees, panting heavily from the exertion.
Ray, Caster, and Van had managed to save the tech genius from certain death by the narrowest of margins.
Rising imdiately, Caster glared into the settling dust.
"Well, even if we now have an escape route, how do we manage to get away from the hulking dude over there?"
Ray kept his gaze fixed on the dust cloud, watching it settle and waiting to see if the beast would dash at them again.
’If only I had received a more powerful skill than this, I could have done sothing more significant.’ He paused for a mont, looking inwardly to find Elyon and Bruce standing within his consciousness.
For so reason, even the werewolf seed intrigued by the desperate struggle occurring outside.
’Bruce. Rember, you owe
one. I will call on that favor if things get rough.’
The werewolf snarled but didn’t offer a verbal rebuttal.
He rembered the pact.
He had promised to manifest only once whenever Ray asked, and it seed the boy was prepared to use that trump card very soon.
But before then, the dust settled completely, revealing the Minotaur walking forward with a calm, nacing stride.
Van, clenching his jaws as the beast’s eyes locked onto him, rose to his feet with a new sense of determination swelling in his chest.
Lifting his hand, the second bracelet on his wrist began to glow.
A small compartnt slid open, and tiny chanical spiders crawled out, instantly swarming over his hand to form a complex structure.
The beast paused, staring with genuine interest at this strange chanical transformation.
It was becoming obvious that the Minotaur had been rely toying with them all along, enjoying the sport.
Finally, a sleek cannon materialized around Van’s hand.
Without hesitation, he slid a beast core into a glowing slot in the contraption.
"With Kai out, I can help," he uttered with a newfound calmness.
The weak, fearful version of Van was nowhere to be seen; the boy stood defiantly, staring directly into the eyes of the monster.
’I promise, Ray. I will not let you shoulder everything alone.’
Trish watched Van joining the fray.
Even though she wasn’t sure how effective he would be, she didn’t care—they needed every hand they could get.
Sheathing her sword, she held out her palms as frost crept over her skin, forming a pair of deadly ice daggers that she gripped firmly.
Shaking his head to clear the fog, Kai forced himself to stand.
"Hell no, I’m not staying down. Hey uh... what was her na again? Uh... you with the ice ability, Krish. Send your sword my way!"
Trish blinked at the absurdity of the mont.
Had she really just been renad in the heat of battle?
Regardless, now was not the ti for corrections.
She unsheathed her blade and flung it toward Kai.
The legacy stepped forward, catching it by the guard effortlessly before shifting into a combat stance.
The beast looked on, appearing almost amused. Its expression seed to ask:
’Are you all done yet?’ The Minotaur shifted its weight, resting its mace on its shoulder as it looked between the Aspirants.
They were all geared up and fired up for the next round.
The wind rustled and howled through the tunnels, and the crystals embedded in the walls seed to burn brighter, illuminating more of the cavern.
The only sound left was the soft thudding of heartbeats as they stared each other down for a few final, tense seconds.
Then,
Chaos!
BANG—!
The Minotaur darted forward with breakneck speed, plunging into the midst of the Aspirants without any fear whatsoever.
Without hesitation, it swung its massive mace in a wide arc, hoping to catch one of their heads in a lethal sweep.
Kai dropped low in front of the incoming weapon, his grip on the borrowed sword firm as he swung the blade from below, aiming to deflect the crushing blow upward.
He managed to redirect the force for a crucial second—enough of a window for Trish to weave in.
She lashed out with her ice daggers toward the beast’s abdon, since the creature was far too tall for her to reach its neck in ti.
The Minotaur lifted its leg, placing its thick hide directly in the path of the daggers, which couldn’t even draw a single drop of blood.
The limb then launched a counter-kick toward her, but with fluid grace, the girl swerved to the side just in ti.
The leg rushed past her, the wind of the strike rustling her uniform.
Kai leaped back, allowing the heavy mace to smash harmlessly into the ground.
Simultaneously, an arrow from Chloe, guided by her telekinetic ability, hurtled toward the beast’s eye with pinpoint accuracy.
Leaning its head to the side, the monster watched the arrow fly past.
Only for Felix to already be positioned in the path of that tilted head.
His fist shot forward like a falling star.
With a glare, the Minotaur leaned backward, allowing the punch to rush past its face.
Its hand twitched, ready to seize the boy, but Van caught sight of the opening.
His observant gaze was top-notch.
BANG!
A concentrated beam burst from his cannon hand, speeding toward the beast with incredible velocity.
Everybody imdiately leaped to the side lest they be caught in the crossfire, leaving the monster alone as its eyes widened.
Quickly, it lifted its mace in front of its face, attempting to block the energy.
Unfortunately for Van, the beam couldn’t shatter the sturdy weapon, but the sheer force of the blast smashed the beast backward, nearly sending it flying.
Digging its hooved feet into the rocky ground, the Minotaur anchored itself down.
"SCREW YOU, BASTARD!" Ray bellowed.
Lightning crackled angrily around his hands, which he thrust forward, unleashing jagged strikes of electricity toward the monster.
For the slightest of monts, the beast’s eyes lit up with sothing akin to recognition.
Bam!
The lightning struck the Minotaur square in the face, electrocuting it imnsely.
Ray smiled, his chest heaving.
"This should keep it rooted for a f—"
A step. Another step. Then one more.
The Minotaur was walking forward, brushing off the attack that had just landed as if it were a minor annoyance.
Its eyes glead dangerously as they locked onto Ray.
Then, with a twisted smile, it lifted its mace and pointed it toward the boy, who was at least five ters away.
Instantly, the head of the mace shone with a brilliant light.
Crackle—! Crackle—!
Lightning snaked across the surface of the weapon, causing Ray’s eyes to widen in trendous and genuine horror.
BANG!
’Of course,’ Ray sighed in inward anger.
A concentrated beam of lightning was shot toward the boy with breakneck speed.
