Chapter 218: From the Darkness

Chapter 216

"Damn! Damn! Damn!" Ray kept shouting angrily as he pomled the ground with his fist, the impact echoing throughout the hollow space.

His teeth were grinding continuously in seething rage, a sound like gravel being crushed.

Everybody just stared with confused looks on their faces.

However, as they began piecing things together, they realized that Ray and Kai were speaking the absolute truth.

Who amongst them hadn’t heard the rumors?

The whispers of Ray going toe-to-toe with Berg and even humiliating him in the process had spread like wildfire.

Forget about hearing the rumors—Kai, Van, and Felix had witnessed the incident firsthand.

They knew that the legacy wouldn’t remain quiet for long; he was bound to retaliate.

Perhaps he would attempt to humiliate Ray in return to save face.

They had half-expected sothing to happen before they left for the orange zone, especially after the Tribrid spoke back to the legacy so defiantly.

Co to think of it, they should have already suspected that sothing was afoot.

The legacy hadn’t even bothered to exchange words with Ray, even after the Tribrid insulted him loudly in the presence of every single Aspirant.

Instead, he had remained unnervingly quiet and moved into the crowd as if he were intimidated.

But they were wrong; he wasn’t afraid.

He was planning sothing destructive, and they had all fallen right into his snare.

In the process, so unfortunate Aspirants must have lost their lives during the plumt.

Well, that was what the others assud Ray was so upset about.

But they couldn’t have been farther from the truth.

The Tribrid didn’t care about the others who had perished; he was currently fuming over sothing entirely different.

’How dare that bastard legacy endanger Van’s life?! How dare he do this?! He also put Kai’s life at risk in the process. How could he?’

’I swear, I will kill him. I will skin him alive. Just let

fucking escape from this place. I will tear him apart.’

The sheer volu of rage Elyon was sensing from the boy worried the celestial deeply as he turned around to look at Bruce in the distance.

’Is the werewolf bloodline slowly overriding him? Is he turning into a monster?’

After a few more seconds of explosive raging, the cavern quietened back down as they all silently looked at one another.

Caster still didn’t mingle with the group, choosing instead to cross his arms over his chest while leaning against a rugged wall, observing everything.

Kai had his head hung low, his teeth clenched tightly together.

’If you have a hand in this... what am I saying? You surely have a hand in this. I will make your life hell. Even if it ans enlisting the help of my family, I will. And I promise you, even the perk of being related to a Big Four won’t save you.’

Sigh—!

Chloe breathed out tiredly as she rubbed her face while looking around the chamber.

For so reason, they had all unconsciously huddled together in the bright part of the cavern, making sure to avoid the oppressive darkness that stretched far beyond what their eyes could see.

Even Felix—with his amazing sight—was unable to properly glean what lay hidden in that gloom.

Hence, he didn’t even bother trying, and they all avoided that area like a plague.

"So, is this how we will stay here without doing anything?"

Surprisingly, Trish was the one to ask the question as she stared around the room with an icy gaze.

"Can’t believe it, but I agree with the Ice Queen on this one," Chloe uttered while rising to her feet.

"We can’t just stand around; ti is slipping away."

"So what?" Felix asked with a raised brow as he looked in the girl’s direction.

"Do you want to head into the unknown?"

Chloe glared at him, her hands crossing on her chest while her quiver full of arrows clinked together rhythmically.

"We can at least do sothing. Standing around only lowers our chance of escaping this hellhole."

Caster quietly observed the group with keen interest as an imperceptible smile rested on his face.

He turned to look at Ray, who wasn’t even paying attention to the bickering as he kept his head hung low in deep thought.

Van was still tinkering with the bracelet on his wrist, the frown on his face deepening as if he were on the cusp of a breakthrough.

"Guys! Kindly stop arguing already. Who knows the horrors hiding in the depths of the darkness that could be attracted by your bickering," Kai cut through the shouting, his expression remaining neutral despite the tension.

"Sigh..." Caster breathed as he finally stood upright and began walking toward the center of the group.

"Not to interfere, but we truly need to find a way out of here. Forget dying at the hands of a beast; we could eventually succumb to hunger. Or worse... thirst."

Chloe nodded in solemn agreent.

Kai was about to open his mouth to offer a rebuttal when he suddenly paused.

"Huh?" He looked down at Ray.

Not just him—everybody did.

That was because of the Tribrid’s strange, sudden shift in deanor.

Earlier, his head had been hung low in deep thought, but now, he sharply lifted it as if he had just witnessed sothing invisible to the rest.

Then, he sprang to his feet in an instant, sheer panic written across his features.

"Er... What’s wrong, brother?"

Ray turned toward them all, his face turning pale in an instant like soone who had just seen a ghost.

His heart beat loudly against his ribs as he looked away from his comrades and into the oppressive darkness with a frightful gaze.

Now, everyone was imdiately on guard, wondering exactly what he had sensed.

After a few tense seconds, Felix felt it too.

His eyes widened in horror as every hair on his body rose simultaneously.

"Crap."

Then—

Tak. Tak. Tak. Screech.

The sound of heavy, rhythmic footsteps followed by sothing massive being dragged roughly across the ground echoed through the cavern.

The Aspirants held their breath, watching frightfully for whatever was about to erge.

Finally, the source revealed itself from the gloom.

It was... a beast?!

The creature stood like a living fortress of pure muscle and unrestrained fury.

Its massive fra towered over everything in the vicinity, thick cords of muscle rippling beneath dark, coarse fur that covered its broad shoulders and back.

The head of a bull sat atop its hulking body, crowned with long, curved horns that swept outward before angling forward into deadly, sharpened points.

Its nostrils flared with every ragged breath, releasing hot, heavy snorts of steam, while its glowing eyes burned with a savage hunger for slaughter.

Scars crisscrossed its rugged body, both old and new, each one a mark of countless battles survived.

Its hooved feet dug into the earth with weight and purpose, every step carrying the force of sothing that could crush bone without the slightest effort.

Gripped tightly in one enormous hand was a gargantuan spiked mace, its thick handle wrapped in worn leather for a better grip.

The head of the weapon was a brutal sphere of dark tal, studded with long, jagged spikes stained dark from past encounters.

It looked less like a weapon and more like a pure instrunt of destruction, capable of caving in heavy armor and shattering anything it struck.

When the minotaur moved, the mace dragged slightly before the creature lifted it with ease, as if its crushing weight ant nothing.

And when it raised the iron club, there was no hesitation, no restraint—only the promise of a swift end.

That was the nightmare that stood before the Aspirants.

Ray wasted no ti in casting his recently acquired skill, and what he saw made his eyes bulge in trendous horror.
