"Manager, what are you doing?" Betty sniffed the air, a strange scent wafting through it.
"? I’m making Hot and Spicy Soup; it needs to be added to the nu," Chen Ze said dejectedly, standing in place as he looked at the bowl of Hot and Spicy Soup before him with resignation.
For so reason, Chen Ze always felt there was sothing lacking when he made Hot and Spicy Soup, which prevented him from being truly satisfied with the dish.
"Hula soup?" Betty blinked, a bit confused about the situation, but she didn’t pay too much attention to it and quickly imrsed herself back into her work.
Having experienced despair, Betty was very content with her ordinary life now.
Every morning she could wake up from a warm bed, with no one whipping her, and she could even bask in the sun.
Then, she would go to Lao Jack’s tavern for a glass of burgrass juice and pair it with a slice of hot buttered white bread — a lavish breakfast.
At midday, Betty often chose to visit the shops. Thanks to Mr. Torresel’s blessing, she didn’t have to worry about being caught and burned by the Church of Light. The number of demons who enjoyed this privilege in the whole positive plane was very few.
During the afternoon, Betty would usually take a nap since she had to work at her place of redemption at night, which housed a young human male who held no improper thoughts about her, causing her to wonder if perhaps her charm was fading.
Co evening, by pushing open that magical door, Betty could step into this new and fascinating world, and then the manager would provide her with a delicious staff al.
Betty felt that the suffering she had endured before was perhaps for this mont, for this tranquility and happiness.
"Oh~ That eternal abyss of downfall, that’s where we reside~" Chen Ze couldn’t help but glance in the direction of the restaurant, noticing Betty was in a good mood today, humming a song.
It had to be said, although Betty, as a Succubus, was a defective product, her voice was still quite pleasant to hear.
Chen Ze scratched his head, his Hot and Spicy Soup had failed again, and he still hadn’t figured out why.
"Welco to Dream Restaurant~ My cute little guest, what would you like to eat?" Betty’s voice disrupted Chen Ze’s thoughts of continuing his experint, and he peeked out to take a look.
It wasn’t the Nafi Siblings; they ca to eat in the restaurant from ti to ti, and Chen Ze had been providing them with nutritious food recently.
But clearly, this little girl before him was not part of the Nafi Siblings, her golden eyes and tidy clothes said as much.
"Where... where is this?" The little girl looked around in amazent, then her gaze settled on Betty.
"Sister, you’re so pretty~" The girl trotted over on her little short legs and threw herself into Betty’s arms.
"You’re pretty too~" Betty seed to enjoy the complint, her eyes squinting with happiness, her whole being radiating a joyful aura.
Chen Ze shook his head; as long as it was a custor, that was all that mattered. He decided to continue with his Hot and Spicy Soup practice before the custor placed an order — a little more practice couldn’t hurt.
"What would you like to eat, little miss?" Betty squatted down so the girl wouldn’t have to look up at her.
Betty couldn’t help but reach out and touch the little girl’s head, feeling as if she was touching a mattress.
"Hmph, I’m not a little miss, my na is Christine~" Christine swatted Betty’s hand away, not pleased.
"Alright, alright~ Christine, this is a restaurant, what would you like to eat? I recomnd the Buffet, the manager’s Buffet is really delicious." Betty recalled the blissful tis when she helped Chen Ze with the nu, where she often ate the various delicacies carefully prepared by the manager.
"What’s a Buffet?" Christine asked in a whiny voice, and from the sound Chen Ze figured she must be of elentary school age, and her height seed to match too.
"That, it’s a soft and white cuisine, very sweet and delicious," Betty said with a smile, stroking Christine’s hair.
"Really? I’ve never had it before," Christine hugged Betty again.
Betty couldn’t help but laugh, though she didn’t know why the little girl liked hugging her, she didn’t mind it.
"Would you like to order one..." Betty’s words were cut short as a dazzling purple light suddenly enveloped her entire body.
Then, to Betty’s astonishnt, the purple light also trapped Christine.
"Manager! Manager!" Betty quickly called Chen Ze over.
"What’s happening here?" Chen Ze ca out and saw the scene; he was also a bit puzzled. Why would the Magic Circle be triggered for no reason?
After all, the Magic Circle should only be activated when there’s danger, but there was nothing abnormal in the restaurant right now.
Except... Chen Ze glanced at Christine, the little girl seed scared, her teary big eyes looking pitifully at Chen Ze.
Chen Ze squatted down and took a look around Betty, then he grabbed Christine’s hand.
"A thief?" Chen Ze frowned. Under the effect of the Magic Circle, Christine couldn’t move; she was clutching several Gold Coins in her hand.
"This..." Betty quickly checked her pockets, indeed the Gold Coins she had were gone.
"Or perhaps, even worse than a thief?" Chen Ze pulled out Christine’s left hand as well, the tender white hand was holding a dagger, which was pressed against Betty’s waist.
"Who exactly are you?" Chen Ze pushed the startled Betty aside, while Christine was still bound by the Magic Circle.
"Tch, who would’ve thought such a place would have such a sophisticated Magic Circle?" Christine’s expression changed in an instant, from a scared cutie to a disdainful old-tir.
"Eh, I accept defeat. Are you guys from the Shadow Alliance? Hand over to them, and you can claim a bounty of over ten thousand," Christine said with indifference, even spitting at Chen Ze’s foot.
Chen Ze felt the veins on his forehead bulging.
"I’ll ask you one more ti. Who, exactly, are you?"
Only then did Christine look at Chen Ze in surprise. "You’re not from the Shadow Alliance?"
"I have no interest in that strangely-nad Alliance, and I’m from the Tribe."
"Alright, I’m Christine Lenna, forr mber of the Shadow Alliance and current fugitive." Chen Ze raised his eyebrows, sensing a Hollywood blockbuster unfolding from that simple sentence.
"How old are you?" Chen Ze was sowhat curious about this question.
"I just turned 56," Christine replied calmly, appearing truthful.
Chen Ze looked at Christine and then at Betty behind him.
"You’ve lived a wasted fifty-six years!"
