"You see, staying alive is often quite easy, but living with dignity requires so tricks," said a man in a black suit, smiling at the person gasping on the ground.
"You... you bastard... you’ll get your couppance..." the person on the ground lay there powerless, her body paralyzed by the toxin and utterly unable to move.
"Couppance? I’ve never believed in couppance, but if possible, after you’ve gone down, you could visit in a dream and let know if it’s real or not." The man said with a smile, unhurriedly pulling out a plastic bag and slipping it over the other’s head.
Struggling, agony, convulsions, but soon, there was no more movent.
And throughout, the man’s smile stayed fixed on his face, unchanging, like a mask.
"Mission accomplished." The man didn’t let go until he could no longer feel a heartbeat, only then did he relax his grip and put the bag away.
He took out his phone, sent a text, and then began humming a tune, preparing to leave the place.
But just as he stepped out of the bedroom, he saw what had been a bookshelf now featured an ordinary wooden door.
"Oh?" The man was intrigued, he had cased this house before and had never seen any wooden door.
Perhaps a treasure room?
The man thought for a mont but then chuckled to himself, shaking his head, the smile still on his face.
Yet the man extended his hand and pushed the door open, his other hand holding a small object.
As soon as he opened the door, Takayama Seiji heard the sound of wind chis, then he saw a woman with wings on her back approaching, her presence overflowing with allure.
"Welco to Dream Restaurant, esteed guest," said the woman, her voice so pleasing that it drew him inside to sit down at a table involuntarily.
Imdiately after, Takayama Seiji shook his head in surprise, looking at the woman in front of him; her charm was terrifying, making him forget his usual composure.
But this place is a restaurant?
Takayama Seiji surveyed his surroundings, indeed, everything was set up like a restaurant, and there was a particular scent in the air.
"Herbal dicine?" Takayama Seiji identified the aroma, being a professional who dealt with relieving others’ misfortunes for money, he had quite a bit of knowledge.
Then, he turned to look around and saw two tall n and a little girl; the girl was crying incessantly.
"Sir, what would you like to eat?" asked the woman, her sweet voice causing Takayama Seiji to beco besotted once more.
Takayama Seiji abruptly shook his head, still with the smile on his face, and began looking over the nu the woman had handed him.
At the sa ti, his attention stayed on the two n because he felt their attire seed familiar, but he couldn’t quite place it at the mont.
Then, in an instant, Takayama Seiji saw the man dressed in black suddenly turn his head a full one hundred and eighty degrees and stare at him coldly.
Takayama Seiji trembled, his hand shaking so much he could barely hold the nu; he had just seen a few Chinese characters above the man’s head, and combining that with the unsettling head turn, Takayama Seiji had guessed the man’s identity.
"No no no! I... I have sothing urgent at ho! I forgot to turn off the gas!" blurted Takayama Seiji frantically before he bolted out the door.
Betty was bewildered. What was that about? Then she saw Fan Wujiu’s head turned towards the wooden door.
"Guests, please don’t frighten the other guests," said Betty sowhat exasperatedly, wondering if this was the first ti a guest had been scared away by another guest.
"Sorry, that person was staring at us," said Fan Wujiu as he turned his head back.
Betty could only sigh before continuing to empty the water buckets, filling up another large one.
Chen Ze was unaware of the happenings inside the restaurant. Even if he had known, he wouldn’t have cared much as he was busy working on the turtle jelly.
Thanks to Quadruple Speed, Chen Ze’s progress in making the ti-consuming dish sped up significantly. In two and a half hours, he removed the turtle shell and added other herbal dicines to start brewing the turtle jelly.
After boiling thirty bowls of water down to fifteen, Chen Ze finally reached the end of the process.
He added rice flour and chestnut flour, stirring slowly. Then he took out a pair of chopsticks, and the turtle jelly began to solidify.
Looking at the turtle jelly in front of him, Chen Ze was reminded of Lei Huen, that pitiful little girl, and he couldn’t help but sigh.
Then he took out so honey and scooped a bit onto a bowl of turtle jelly.
Hopefully, this bit of sweetness can make you feel a little bit better.
[You have made a perfect turtle jelly. Dessert crafting experience increased by 50 points.]
[Dessert Master leveled up to Dessert Master.]
[Dessert Master: The desserts you make have an extrely low chance of obtaining the properties you desire.]
[The turtle jelly triggered the Dessert Master’s passive ability, gaining the Reincarnation effect with its perfection.]
Chen Ze rubbed his nose. The System’s upgrade was definitely good news, great news, but the way he was notified was a bit hard to accept.
"Can’t it be gentler, like a ’ding’ sound or sothing?" Chen Ze rolled his eyes. The System’s notification pop-ups accumulated and smothered him whenever there were too many.
Nevertheless, Chen Ze was still very happy. After all, his dessert skills had leveled up once again, and he had made a perfect turtle jelly.
Most importantly, the turtle jelly had finally achieved the desired effect.
"Betty, co in and serve the dish." Chen Ze clapped his hands with pride and called Betty in.
Chen Ze then drizzled honey over all the turtle jellies, and fourteen bowls of perfect-grade turtle jelly appeared, though these did not gain any additional properties.
Chen Ze smacked his lips. He was now beginning to understand that the biggest improvent of the Dessert Master over the Dessert Apprentice was the addition of properties.
If the previous property addition was like playing a ga and drawing a card, whether you got a four-star or three-star character was entirely unpredictable.
And if you didn’t even know which character you were getting, the upgraded effect now ant that while you still couldn’t be sure of getting a four-star or three-star, if it was a four-star, it would definitely be the one you wanted.
Xie BiAn stared at the turtle jelly in front of him, unable to contain his amazent, but he still handed the bowl to Lei Huen.
The little girl was still crying, showing no reaction at all.
Fan Wujiu couldn’t stand it and turned around to scoop up a spoonful, feeding it into Lei Huen’s mouth.
Lei Huen swallowed it, and the next second, her tears slowly stopped, her face ward slightly as she vanished into thin air.
Fan Wujiu stared at the cell phone charm, exchanging surprised glances with Xie BiAn. Just one bite?
One bite and she’s entered Reincarnation?
