Though it’s winter, the streets and alleyways are still lively.
They only set out to return when the marketplace was almost over, and by then the wooden cart was already filled to the brim, mostly with food prepared for tomorrow’s family reunion banquet.
Throughout the journey, Qinghe hardly spoke.
An Ning is more attentive, so she noticed this more than An Dafu did.
As they approached the village, An Ning asked, "Qinghe, Aunt Qiu might be at my house right now, do you want to co over?"
Qinghe smiled, "I won’t go, I’ll first go ho."
After speaking, Qinghe glanced at An Dafu, "Dad, I’m going ho?"
"Alright, go on, be careful on the way. If your mom isn’t ho, feel free to co over." An Dafu said.
"Okay, I got it." With that, Qinghe smiled and left.
Once ho, Lu Xiu parked the wooden cart in the yard and went back to the farm.
The Lu brothers usually live on the farm, possibly because they care about An Ning being ho alone, so besides Lu Xiaowu and Lu Xiaoliu, the others rarely co over.
Yanshi was no longer in the yard at this ti, An Ning looked inside and found her lying asleep on the kang with Xiaoniu next to her.
Upon seeing An Ning, Xiaoniu cried "waaah," extended his arms, wanting An Ning to hold him.
An Ning has been taking care of him these days, so his cry made her heart ache.
In a hurry, she walked over and picked him up.
After a few coaxing words, the little guy finally cald down.
And Yanshi had already been awakened by Xiaoniu’s cries.
"Ningning is back?" Seeing Xiaoniu snuggled in An Ning’s arms, Yanshi spoke tiredly.
"Mom, didn’t I ask Xinghua to stay at ho to help look after Xiaoniu? If you’re tired you should rest well, why not let Xinghua take care of Xiaoniu?" An Ning asked.
Yanshi’s body can’t handle exhaustion, having a kid climb around nearby makes resting impossible.
"At first Xinghua was taking care of him, then out of nowhere, this stubborn kid just wouldn’t let her, otherwise he’d cry hard. I didn’t have a choice!" Yanshi said, sounding quite troubled, being her own child, she couldn’t exactly ignore him!
An Ning couldn’t quite understand, seeing Yanshi looking exhausted, she replied empathetically, "Maybe he’s just unfamiliar, Xinghua only ca yesterday, it’s normal for Xiaoniu not to be familiar with her. Alright, I’ll take him out for a while, mom, you should quickly rest a bit."
"Alright, take care of him." Yanshi said.
An Ning carried Xiaoniu outside, and throughout he’s clinging to An Ning’s neck, showing a close connection, which made An Ning both laugh and cry.
"What a cheeky kid, mom’s not well these days, why won’t you let Xinghua look after you? Are you deliberately causing trouble?" An Ning said while lightly patting his little bottom, pretending to be fierce.
With a loud "waah," the baby who had just been comforted was teased into crying again.
An Ning was quite scared of him crying, hurriedly comforting and cuddling him, "Alright, it’s sister’s fault, sister was wrong, don’t cry anymore, okay..."
After another round of coaxing, he was finally comforted and carried outside.
"Sister An Ning, you’re back?" Xinghua returned from outside, her hands still dirty.
