Renee only lasted ten minutes into the hour-long movie before she just couldn’t take it anymore.

First, the visual impact was way too much; it was her first ti watching sothing like this, and with Jack Yates, no less—it just felt all kinds of awkward.

Second, Jack was anything but well-behaved, constantly getting handsy, and even asked her so ridiculously childish questions, like, was he bigger, or was the male lead in the movie bigger?

Renee knew exactly what he ant, had zero interest in entertaining him, so she pretended not to hear and didn’t answer.

But Jack was especially bratty in this kind of situation, insisting she reply.

When she didn’t speak, he’d bite her, pinch her—again and again.

Renee had no choice but to answer him.

She didn’t want to give him a straightforward answer to such a dumb question, so she deliberately twisted his aning, replying seriously, "If we’re just talking looks, the movie’s male lead is definitely bigger. He looks at least thirty—while you only look twenty-sothing."

Jack buried his face in her neck and let out a laugh, then his long fingers pressed down hard, his voice husky as he asked, "Answer . Who’s bigger?"

"Ah! You..." Renee tilted her head back, face flushed and breath uneven, "You, you’re bigger—you’re more mature, steadier than him."

Jack wasn’t satisfied; he lifted his head out of her arms, bit her rosy cheek, and pushed: "Say it clearly. Where am I bigger than him?"

Renee couldn’t say it out loud; stuff like this was just too mortifying for her.

Jack’s large hand pressed against her lower back, pulling her into his arms, his thin lips at her ear, slow and deliberate, spelling it out for her.

"Repeat what I said." His tone was commanding.

Renee’s face was fully flushed red, she bit her lip, shut her eyes, and sped through the words—when she ntioned those two body-part words, she rattled them off like she was rapping.

Jack: "Couldn’t hear you. Say it again."

Renee, frustrated, opened her mouth and bit his shoulder—after biting him, she looked at him, cheeks puffed, glaring: "I’m not saying it again!"

Jack set her down on the sofa, then crouched down.

Coincidentally, that was exactly what was happening in the movie at that mont.

Just as Jack pressed his lips over, Renee couldn’t help but let out a soft moan.

But her voice was too quiet, drowned out by the sound from the TV.

As Renee got more into it, her voice rising higher, suddenly Jack’s phone rang.

The abrupt ringtone startled Renee so much she instantly snapped out of it.

Jack choked, coughed a few tis.

Renee, face burning, buried herself into the sofa, pressing her face down, not daring to look at Jack.

Jack straightened up, his look brazen and wild, licking his lips, tugging at his drenched shirt collar with one hand, then turned and went to take the call.

Renee peeked up at him, caught Jack’s teasing smile, and hurriedly hid her face in the sofa again.

Oh god, soone just strike her down with lightning!

Jack answered the call, his voice still rough: "Yeah?"

After he hung up, Jack’s expression was icy. He ca over to the sofa, face serious: "Sothing urgent is happening at the company. I’ll have Carrington pick you up soon, or you can just stay here if you want."

Renee: "..."

Jack leaned down and kissed her lips: "This one’s on credit—when I’m back I’ll make it up to you."

Renee glanced at his soaked white shirt, face still red: "You should change your shirt."

Jack lowered his eyes, glanced down, lips quirking up: "Okay."

After switching shirts, Jack didn’t say another word and quickly left Kyoro Hotel.

Renee didn’t let Carrington co pick her up; she turned off the movie and went back to the bedroom to sleep.

But lying in bed, she couldn’t sleep at all; her mind was a ss.

When it ca to intimacy, Jack was hardly ever gentle. He was always wild and intense—just like his personality—tough and ruthless, inside and out.

Tonight he’d actually been gentle, and with his attentive care, Renee had felt a little spark of joy, too.

It was just that, before that joy could grow, he’d suddenly left.

If it wasn’t truly urgent, Jack wouldn’t have left her at a ti like that.

So what could it be?

Stocks crashed?

Or maybe there was a mole inside the company?

Renee had absolutely no clue.

It was only now she realized—she really didn’t understand Jack at all.

What did he like, what did he hate—she’d never tried to find out.

What exactly did his company do, what kind of business—she’d never even thought to ask.

All she ever thought about was when she could leave him; after their two-year agreent was up, would she really be able to go?

Looking back at the year she’d spent with Jack, honestly, he wasn’t so bad.

When her grandpa was sick, when her grandma was sick—it was Jack who helped her. Even if there was so bargaining in the mix, at least he was truly putting money on the table to help.

Two sumrs, he’d taken her to so many countries. She’d seen dreamlike northern lights, sunsets on the banks of the Seraphine, expensive diamonds, fireworks—all for her, even drone light shows.

He’d given her the most extravagant romance, and the kind of tenderness that left her shaken to her core.

This man’s goodness was always obvious, his bad side too.

His desire and his feelings were always made clear—not hidden and repressed.

By contrast, Renee could never be like that. She didn’t have the nerve.

She wished she could be soone bold enough to love and hate openly—how cool would that be.

But with Jack, she simply couldn’t love, and she couldn’t even hate.

Jack could love if he wanted, and stop whenever he felt like—it was easy for him, he had the freedom.

But she couldn’t. She was afraid if she took things seriously, Jack was just playing around the whole ti.

The sudden ring of her phone broke Renee’s tangled thoughts.

She snapped out of her daze, glanced at her phone—it was Butler Pierce’s number.

Did Jack ask Butler Pierce to co pick her up?

Renee hurriedly answered the call, her voice sweet: "Uncle Pierce, are you here already?"

Butler Pierce: "I’m on my way now. The Master is worried about you being alone at the hotel, asked to bring you ho. I should be there in about ten minutes."

Renee: "Okay, I’ll get ready and head out right now."

After hanging up, Renee rushed to get changed, but just as she finished, her phone rang again—this ti it was a stranger’s number.

"Hello, may I ask who’s—"

Before Renee could finish, the voice of Simon Forrester ca from the other end.

"Renee, it’s ." Simon chuckled. "Are you free right now?"

Renee asked in surprise, "What’s up?"

Simon: "I’m handing the bar over to you."

Renee replied quickly, "No need. I don’t even know how to run a bar."

Simon: "Third Brother Yates already agreed. If I don’t give it to you, he’ll give hell—you wouldn’t want him to beat up, right?"

Renee suggested, "Then why not just transfer it straight to him?"

Simon laughed, "Oh co on, Ms. Renee, go easy on . I promised it to you. If you won’t take it, he’ll never forgive . I could offend anyone else and be fine, but if I piss off Third Brother Yates, I’ll never survive in The Quadrangle again."

Renee: "Alright, fine, but Butler Pierce is coming to get soon—I need to head ho."

"No problem, let Butler Pierce go with you. That way, Third Brother Yates won’t get all suspicious and paranoid."

Renee laughed, "Alright, I’ll tell him."

Simon: "Don’t—don’t tell him just yet. Sothing big happened at his company, he’s busy right now."

Renee asked off-handedly, "What happened at his company?"
