Chapter 611: Chapter 610 Double the Joy~

In the chaotic crowd, a young soldier stumbled over a body at his feet and dropped his military dagger.

“Hiss!”

Seeing the hunched-over monster rushing toward him, a look of panic flashed across the young soldier’s inexperienced face.

“Die!”

At that mont, a loud shout suddenly ca from afar. Before the voice had even fallen, a gale swept in. The hunched-over monster’s head burst into pieces with a bang, and its body flew over the terrified crowd, crashing into the wall of the venue.

The young soldier turned his head in a daze and saw a tall middle-aged man standing not far from him, maintaining the posture of a punch with his muscular right arm, from which wisps of steam were continuously emanating.

“Company… commander,”

Jiang Zhen nodded at the young soldier, “Get up.”

The young soldier quickly scrambled up from the ground, his face full of admiration as he looked at his commander, envying the bulging muscles. anwhile, a slight doubt arose in his mind, had the commander grown taller than before?

Sizzle—

At that mont, the soldier’s walkie-talkie at his waist started buzzing, and a hoarse voice ca through, “This is the second squad leader, Li Yang. Has anyone seen the commander? There is soone looking for him here.”

Before the young soldier could respond, Jiang Zhen took the walkie-talkie from his waist, “This is Jiang Zhen.”

After a short silence, a strange voice ca from the other end, “Hello, Commander Jiang.”

Jiang Zhen looked around at the monsters flashing by intermittently. With red streaks faintly glowing under the skin of his chest, he said impatiently, “Just say what you need to say.”

“I would ask you to order the opening of the Rock Barrier securing the safety passageway.”

“Reason.”

“The entire population of the Imperial Capital has basically been evacuated. There’s no need for pointless sacrifices anymore, and haven’t you noticed that the monsters are getting stronger?”

Jiang Zhen, looking at the corpses all around and those terrified citizens, his hand holding the walkie-talkie trembled slightly. After a mont of silence, he said huskily, “I understand.”

“Mm!”

Feeling the airflow from above, Shao Zifeng looked up and saw a large mouth aid at him. He gestured an OK sign to the Iron-eating Giant Panda, “Ready, let’s wreak havoc.”

The Iron-eating Giant Panda’s eyes lit up as it fiercely eyed the monsters.

Boom!

With a violent shake, the Rock Barrier blocking the safety passageway suddenly began to crumble, revealing the passage behind it.

The citizens looked at the safety exit in a daze. After a mont of silence, they rushed toward the exit, not wanting to stay here a minute longer.

All the soldiers returned to the exit and anxiously scanned the erging crowd. They were prepared to take down any injured, infected, or monstrous individuals imdiately.

Standing next to the Iron-eating Giant Panda, Shao Zifeng breathed a sigh of relief as he watched the distant crowd.

“Zifeng.”

Hearing the familiar voice, Shao Zifeng quickly turned around, only to see several figures in white coats approaching, led by Beibei, with Chen Yixing in the lead.

“ow~”

Beibei ran up to Shao Zifeng, looking up at him with its fluffy little head.

Shao Zifeng crouched down, stroked its little head, and then held it in his arms, “Well done.”

“Bah~”

Beibei’s little paws clung to Shao Zifeng’s shoulder, staring hostilely from his blind spot at the Iron-eating Giant Panda behind him when suddenly a dark shadow flashed by. Lingling floated in front of Beibei, blocking its view.

The red glimrs beneath its black veil twinkled with interest as it watched the snow-white Beibei, reaching out a delicate little hand.

“Bah?”

Beibei tilted its little head, moved in curiously and sniffed gently, only to suddenly see Lingling revealing a malicious smile. Beibei sharply sensed a dangerous aura, but before it could react, Lingling’s little hand was frantically rubbing on its little head.

“Bah bah, bah bah!” Beibei, unable to resist, buried its little head deeply in Shao Zifeng’s arms.

Seeing this, Lingling pondered for a mont and then switched to an innocuous smile.

“Duke sir~” It flew to the other side of Shao Zifeng, wrapped its hands around his neck in coquetry, and said, “Lingling also wants to hug the little kitty.”

While talking with Chen Yixin, Shao Zifeng thought for a mont and casually stuffed Beibei into its arms, “Don’t bully Beibei, understand?”

“Mmm!” Lingling clung tightly to the resistant Beibei, nodding its little head rapidly before dashing off to the side like a gust of wind.

Chen Yixin looked at Shao Zifeng with a smile, pushing her petite glasses. “Zifeng, are you okay?”

“What do you think?” Shao Zifeng looked Chen Yixin up and down, complaining, “Why did you co here personally to such a dangerous place? Couldn’t you have let Brother Yang Qi and the others co instead?”

Yang Qi, still imrsed in the joy of eting Shao Zifeng, twitched the corners of his mouth. Is that even sothing you say?

Chen Yixin looked at Yang Qi amusingly, then gently said to Shao Zifeng, “Co on, I’m fine, aren’t I?”

After a brief chat, Shao Zifeng changed the topic, “Yixing, you study mutant creatures, what do you make of the monsters that appeared? Is there really a virus that can turn people into monsters?”

Talking business, Chen Yixin also straightened her expression and looked at a monster’s corpse not far away. After pondering for a mont, she said, “This is definitely not sothing a virus can do. If I were to define this situation, I would rather call it ‘parasitism’.”

“Parasitism?” Shao Zifeng repeated the term, frowning slightly, “If I’m not mistaken, parasites include viruses, right?”

Chen Yixin nodded, “Yes, looking from a traditional biological research perspective, parasitism and mutualism are connections ford historically between organisms in terms of space and food. Not all parasitism is harmful, and this includes viruses. But the parasitism I’m talking about now is similar to traditional parasitism yet exhibits a level of predatory aggression that parasitism has never had.”

“Traditional biological research states that parasitic relationships arise through three pathways: developnt from spatial connections to food connections, transitioning from predation to parasitism, and accidental entry into the host in the future.”

“Once parasitic relationships are established through the aforentioned cohabitation, predation, and accidental parasitism, they can evolve in different directions. Coevolution of parasites and their hosts often reduces harmful ‘negative effects’ and can even turn into mutualistic relationships.”

“However, no third party parasite has ever enhanced itself through devouring, not even viruses.”

After listening to Chen Yixin’s lengthy discussion, several researchers including Yang Qi showed thoughtful expressions. Hu Shiwu looked at Chen Yixin, then back at his own leader, scratching his face, “I kind of don’t understand…”

Chen Yixin grinned, “To put it simply, it’s more like there’s a mother controlling all ‘parasites’ to find hosts, ‘parasites’ continuously divide and grow stronger after devouring all the nutritive energy of their hosts…”

“In the end, these ‘parasites’ devour each other to form an even more powerful entity.”

Upon hearing her words, several people gasped in shock, feeling a chill down their spines.

At this point, Shao Zifeng seed to think of sothing as he looked thoughtfully at the flying dragon within the protective barrier.

“Bah~”

Suddenly, a heart-wrenching scream from Beibei ca from behind.

Shao Zifeng quickly turned around, only to see standing behind him a black and a white Lingling; the black Lingling was furiously rubbing the face of the white Lingling.

Seeing him look over, black Lingling casually let go of its hand, pointing at the pitiful white Lingling.

“Duke sir, two Linglings, double the joy~”
