Bai Zhan was soone Mo Ying once deeply loved, but after decades of waiting, she received not even a hint of his affection. Instead, it was Mo Ying who let him go and ended up with Ye Wenting. Bai Zhan beca unwilling to accept this and ca crying and begging in front of Du Xixi.

On that day, Du Xixi harshly questioned him several tis. After that, Du Xixi hadn’t seen Bai Zhan for a long ti, nor had she heard any news about him from Ke Lian.

He seed to have disappeared from everyone’s lives, and Ke Lian and the others tacitly didn’t ntion him in their everyday conversations.

The moonlight was hazy, and although there was a night lamp outside, Bai Zhan stopped a few ters away from Du Xixi, half-hidden in the shadows. The young man’s elegant face seed more tired than Du Xixi had ever seen before. She pressed her lips together, feeling that Bai Zhan seed to have changed greatly from before.

"Bai Zhan?" Hearing Du Xixi’s voice, Ke Xing, who had already walked a few steps inside, turned back. He, too, had watched Bai Zhan grow up and knew so of what had happened to him. Seeing that it was indeed Bai Zhan standing outside the door, he warmly looked at him, "Why are you here? Would you like to co in and sit for a while?"

Ke Xing was generally reluctant to interfere in matters among the younger generation. He rely out of elder’s concern wanted to invite the younger one he hadn’t seen for a long ti into the house, at least for a cup of tea.

In the past, Bai Zhan would have gladly accepted, but in front of Du Xixi, his feet didn’t move forward at all. He looked at Du Xixi, seemingly wanting to say sothing, but her cold gaze left him speechless.

Du Xixi took a deep breath, feeling her heated head slowly cool down in the cold breeze. She saw Bai Zhan avoiding eye contact, and let out a scoff, saying lightly, "Then co in, it’s windy outside."

After speaking, Du Xixi didn’t look at Bai Zhan’s delighted smile but instead, with a bit of attitude, walked a few steps toward the house, pretending not to hear the familiar conversation behind her between Ke Xing and Bai Zhan.

Du Xixi had already walked far ahead, while Bai Zhan walked alongside Ke Xing, only able to see the back of his sister-in-law. He sighed inwardly, knowing that he indeed didn’t handle things correctly back then, and he could understand why Du Xixi didn’t like him.

"Where have you been lately? We haven’t heard from you all this ti." Ke Xing, holding his two grandchildren, noticed Bai Zhan’s distracted deanor and knowingly changed the subject to engage Bai Zhan in conversation as they used to.

Bai Zhan always respected Ke Xing, and seeing him seemingly unaware of everything and chatting with him, Bai Zhan chose not to ntion those regrets. He simply smiled lightly, "I’ve been sent by my family to attend so closed literary exchange seminars in other Empires, to enhance my own refinent."

For over a year, Bai Zhan had been attending literary exchanges, and these closed seminars were perfect for him, an ideal place to calm down and reflect. He indeed thought about many things.

Regarding Mo Ying, he wouldn’t lie to himself; he truly never had feelings for her. After all, they grew up together as playmates, and Mo Ying was more like family to him.

But why did he lose his composure like that afterward... Bai Zhan laughed bitterly at himself. Perhaps it was just as Du Xixi said, that his feelings for Mo Ying were rely unwillingness to let go.

He was unwilling that soone who always chased after him stopped chasing, unwilling that the person used to caring for his well-being now cared for others, and even more unwilling that soone who shed tears for him would cry for soone else in the future.

He called himself despicable, but Du Xixi said he was just unwilling. Bai Zhan watched as Du Xixi’s silhouette disappeared into the warm light ahead, laughing self-mockingly. Wasn’t he indeed sowhat despicable?

If not, he wouldn’t have sought out Mo Ying first thing upon returning to the Empire, yet he didn’t dare go inside, standing distant at Mo Ying’s doorstep for three hours.

He stood from afar, watching from afar, observing that the woman who once loved him deeply, wounded by him, finally beca soone else’s treasure. He knew Mo Ying was married and pregnant, yet he couldn’t articulate what he felt seeing her happiness now.
