Chapter 396: Chapter 23 Whisper_2

Wanwan…seems a bit upset and anxious?

As Lin Xiaoguai was in a daze, suddenly she heard his question and imdiately opened her eyes wide in shock. Seeing this, Shen Chi beca even more certain of his guess.

He lowered his head and placed a kiss on her eyelid, tenderly saying, “What’s been troubling you recently? Or is soone trying to drive a wedge between us again?”

As he said the last part, his tone turned cold.

This had happened not long ago. Shen Chi, despite his young age, had risen to a high-ranking position, was good-looking, knew how to make money, and had the support of the Han Family. And yet, a man like him adored and protected Lin Xiaoguai like the apple of his eye. With three sons and two daughters between them, their life was incredibly good. Open-minded people might feel a little envious, but so ladies who thought no less of themselves than Lin Xiaoguai and yet didn’t have as good a life harbored discomfort. They couldn’t bear to see others happy, so inevitably, they would say ambiguous things to Lin Xiaoguai, such as “I saw Mr. Shen at the Cultural Troupe today, talking to a female soldier for quite so ti,” or “So-and-so has always admired Shen Chi, I even saw him smile at her last ti”… with the intent to stir trouble in their marriage.

Naturally, Shen Chi wouldn’t believe such fabricated stories, but once he caught wind of this and got very angry. The offending ladies didn’t fare well either, as their husbands suffered repercussions at work.

In Shen Chi’s view, this was no small matter. His wife was opinionated and not easily swayed by others, so there was no imdiate worry about her believing those people’s words, but given enough ti, who could say?

“It’s not that,” Lin Xiaoguai muttered, leaning her face into his chest. “After you made a scene that ti, no one dared to talk nonsense in front of again.”

“What’s it about then?” Shen Chi asked gently as he stroked her smooth back.

His touch was seductive, causing Lin Xiaoguai to shiver. Biting her lip, she asked, “Shen Chi, will you always be good to ?”

Shen Chi paused, frowning as he said, “Hasn’t soone really been telling you nonsense?” How could she say sothing like that?

“Answer first,” urged Lin Xiaoguai.

“Do I even have to answer that question? If I’m not good to you, who would I be good to?” Shen Chi said without hesitation.

“What if I… were no longer here?” Lin Xiaoguai had wanted to say, “What if I divorced you?” But thinking that it might easily be misunderstood, she chose a different way to phrase it.

Shen Chi nearly jumped up, his voice rising in alarm, “What do you an? Are you sick? Is it so terminal illness?”

As he spoke, he frantically checked Lin Xiaoguai over as if to make sure she wasn’t missing any parts.

Lin Xiaoguai was stunned at first, then couldn’t help laughing as she said, “What are you thinking? I’m fine.”

Shen Chi still looked dubious, “Then why would you say sothing like that?”

“Well…” Under his intense gaze, Lin Xiaoguai had to tell a lie, “I dread that you fell for another woman and that woman strangled to death.”

After saying it, she felt annoyed with herself for blurting out the “truth” when she had intended to give a perfunctory response.

For so reason, upon hearing this, Shen Chi felt a sharp pain in his heart, but it disappeared quickly, leading him to think it was just his imagination.

“That’s nothing, dreams are the opposite of reality,” Shen Chi said, breathing a sigh of relief, then continued, “Dreams are not true, no one holds onto them like you do.”

“But it felt so real…” Lin Xiaoguai whispered.

Shen Chi felt a headache coming on. He couldn’t understand why Wanwan, normally so rational, was dwelling on this. After thinking it over, he said, “If I were to fall for another woman, I wouldn’t need her to kill you, I’d do it myself.”

Seeing her turn pale from fright, Shen Chi felt a pang of tenderness and stopped joking around, quickly explaining, “If you want soone dead, you don’t have to do it yourself, I’ll do it for you.”

Lin Xiaoguai blinked, translating his words in her mind. Did it an that if Shen Chi fell in love with Xu ii and Xu ii wanted her dead, he would take care of it without her lifting a finger?

But in her previous life, Shen Chi had rushed over to stop Xu ii. Her consciousness had been blurry at the ti, but she still rembered how panicked and urgent his voice had been.

For a mont, she was uncertain whether Shen Chi had fallen for Xu ii in her previous life.

“Stop thinking about it,” Shen Chi said, noticing her deep in thought, he helplessly seated her on his lap and kissed her fair and delicate shoulder, saying helplessly and affectionately, “That’s why I told you not to tempt , what if you get hurt?”

He did want to take her to bed and have another three hundred rounds, but Wanwan was already so tired, and without restraint, he could hurt her. How could he bear that?

His move was unexpected, and Lin Xiaoguai blinked, feeling sowhat uncomfortable as she squird in his embrace. Suddenly, her rear brushed against sothing hard and hot, and she froze, grasping his aning in an instant. She found herself both embarrassed and annoyed as she scolded, “Shen Chi, you lustful beast!” (To be continued.
