Elena’s POV

I gazed toward the horizon where black smoke billowed upward, flas consuming the remains of fallen bodies. My feet carried in that direction without hesitation.

During my approach, I detached the tiny recording device from my shirt collar and turned it toward my face.

"Listen carefully, you governnt bastards. You witnessed it yourselves - the werewolf pack doesn’t slaughter innocent humans. The real danger has been eliminated. So back off your assault before you ignite the fury of an entire race. We don’t exist to harm humanity, but anyone who dares threaten our survival will discover our exceptions to that rule." My voice carried deadly conviction as I released the device and crushed it beneath my boot.

The bonfire blazed intensely when I reached it, wolves dancing around the flas in wild celebration. They reveled in the destruction of those abominations, their joy entirely justified after everything we’d endured.

Damien’s eyes found mine across the clearing as I rested against an oak tree. He abandoned the festivities and rushed to embrace with desperate relief.

"Is it finished?" His breath ward my ear.

"Yes. He’s gone." The simple words carried the weight of everything that had transpired. His arms tightened around protectively.

"The others explained what happened with Marcus. He was bleeding out and begged you to end his life so you could claim leadership of the pack." Damien’s voice held a mixture of admiration and concern.

"Everyone kept insisting the pack belonged to by right. Turns out Marcus wasn’t completely terrible after all." I allowed myself a bitter smile.

"He approached earlier today with specific instructions. He wanted my promise that I’d raise his boy like my own flesh and blood. I had no idea you’d revealed the truth to him." Damien searched my expression.

"I never actually confird anything. He drew his own conclusions, but I stayed silent." I shrugged against his chest.

"He seed remarkably confident when he made that request." Damien’s tone grew thoughtful.

"Perhaps he sensed his approaching death." The reality of Marcus’s sacrifice settled between us.

Damien nodded slowly, understanding flooding his features. Marcus had faced his mortality and ensured his child’s future security. Though unnecessary - Damien had always cherished Caleb regardless - the gesture showed Marcus’s final act of fatherly love.

"How do we handle absorbing another pack into our territory?" His practical question drew us back to imdiate concerns.

"We’ll navigate that challenge when it arises." I felt confident in our ability to adapt.

His arm encircled my waist as we wandered deeper into the forest, leaving behind the crackling flas and euphoric pack mbers.

"There’s sothing I’ve been curious about for quite so ti." My words broke the comfortable silence between us.

"What would that be?" Damien glanced sideways at .

"I heard rumors that you and Gage once had a sister who disappeared." The topic had nagged at my thoughts for weeks.

Laughter rumbled from his chest unexpectedly. "She’s alive and well. She simply rejected the werewolf lifestyle entirely. Technically she remains pack-affiliated to avoid going rogue, but otherwise she’s chosen to live among humans as one of them."

"Seriously? Doesn’t the transformation urge tornt her?" I couldn’t imagine suppressing such a fundantal part of our nature.

"She manages by shifting only when absolutely necessary - maybe once every few months. We maintain contact sporadically. She knows about you and the children. I wasn’t deliberately keeping her existence secret - the subject never naturally arose in our conversations." His explanation sounded genuine.

"Will I have the opportunity to et her eventually?" Curiosity sparked within about this mysterious sister-in-law.

"Honestly, I’m uncertain. As I ntioned, she’s actively distanced herself from werewolf society." He seed resigned to the situation.

"So it’s a matter of waiting and hoping." I accepted the uncertainty.

"Exactly that." He confird with a slight nod.

"I realize this might sound callous given Marcus’s death, but I feel this incredible lightness now. Like so crushing burden has finally been lifted from my shoulders. The constant anxiety about Marcus and those monstrous creatures - it consud . I never wanted Marcus to die, and if I could reverse it sohow, I absolutely would. But I lived in terror that he’d exercise his parental authority over Caleb and steal him from . As an Alpha, he possessed that legal power." The confession poured out of .

"I understand completely. Caleb represents the legitimate heir to Marcus’s pack now. And the truth is, he really holds that position." Damien’s voice carried pride and protectiveness.

"I suppose he does." The magnitude of that reality was still sinking in.

"Try not to worry too much. You ntioned Marcus suspected the truth but never demanded genetic testing or formal proof. I doubt he intended any drastic action, especially after everything he’d already put you through." Damien’s reassurance helped calm my lingering fears about what might have been.
