"Xie Baola: Got any events coming up?"
Da Pao was very straightforward: "No."
"Xie Baola: ???"
"Da Pao: Really, I’ve been busy lately."
"Xie Baola: Busying yourself with matchmaking for the New Year?"
"Da Pao: Not matchmaking, but it’s scarier than that! You have no idea about my pain!"
"Xie Baola: What kind of thing is that?"
Da Pao’s words were filled with grievances: "My dad is making work on the assembly line to experience life. If I don’t go, he’ll cut off my credit card! Isn’t that terrifying?"
Xie Baola: "..."
Indeed, quite terrifying.
His dad should have done this long ago.
Knowing that this guy was unreliable, Xie Baola had no expectations for him.
Seeing how practical she was, and knowing that he was busy, Da Pao didn’t bother with him anymore. Angrily, he sent a voice ssage: "Seeing as you’re also idle, Miss Xie, co join for a joyful experience on the assembly line."
Xie Baola replied succinctly: "Bugger off!"
Da Pao said with a hum: "Before you tell to bugger off, you could just make your own arrangents with Chen Jiayan. There’s no need to go through ."
The two of them didn’t know who was actually luring in whom.
After hearing the ssage, Xie Baola sneered.
Did she need him to tell her that?
The next day, Xie Baola sent a ssage to Chen Jiayan.
But he had gone on a business trip again.
He was always on business trips.
Xie Baola, uninterested, put her phone aside.
Settling down to write her script.
After revising the script to its second version, Xie Baola once again invited Qiao Xi and Su Tutu to review it.
They all unanimously thought it was good.
But Xie Baola still wasn’t quite satisfied.
The script needed more revision.
And it wasn’t the final version, anyway.
Approaching the New Year, Xie Baola also had to return to Xie Group to help out.
There was a lot of business to deal with at the end of the year.
Xie Baola needed to take so of the load off Xie Qian.
She hardly had any ti left to et with Chen Jiayan.
Chen Jiayan’s company was presumably also very busy.
Both were occupied with their own work.
They occasionally chatted on WeChat, but there was little ti to et in person.
Before they knew it, New Year’s Eve arrived.
Rembering that she hadn’t seen Chen Jiayan for a while, Xie Baola headed straight to his house.
Upon reaching the residential building where he lived, Xie Baola called Chen Jiayan.
The phone rang for a long ti before Chen Jiayan picked up.
"Hello, Chen Jiayan."
Xie Baola frowned: "You should be at ho now, right? I’m downstairs at your building."
Receiving no response, Xie Baola called out again.
Still no sound.
"Can you hear ?"
Xie Baola took a look at her phone.
The call was still connected.
So why wasn’t he talking?
Was he deliberately ignoring her?
Irritated, Xie Baola looked up and saw Chen Jiayan coming out of the elevator.
"Why aren’t you speaking? I thought you might have fainted at ho."
Chen Jiayan looked up and saw the woman approaching.
Her voice ca through the earpiece and from in front of him, tinged with a faint electric buzz.
The two voices, as if blending a dream with reality, made him feel it was less real.
Seeing her, Chen Jiayan’s face was expressionless.
"Why did you co?"
Xie Baola curled her lips slightly: "With the New Year coming up, I was afraid you’d be lonely, so I ca to check on you."
She paused: "Don’t you want to co?"
Chen Jiayan didn’t answer, he walked past her and kept going.
"Even if I didn’t want you to co, wouldn’t you still show up?"
Xie Baola said boastfully: "Good to know."
Chen Jiayan’s voice was chilly: "That’s right, no need to ask such superfluous questions."
Xie Baola followed Chen Jiayan into the snow.
"Where are you going?"
"Stop following ."
"I ca here to see you, how can you tell not to follow you?"
"I didn’t ask you to co see ."
"Even if I ca on my own, you can’t just leave behind."
Xie Baola looked up at the gloomy weather and hissed: "It’s so cold, are you really going to leave here under your building?"
Her breath fogged in the air.
It was indeed very cold.
Xie Baola directly grabbed his hand.
Chen Jiayan turned to look at her.
Snowflakes fell on her hair and shoulders.
Behind her was a parked red Ferrari.
Her car was as flashy and eye-catching as she was.
In the heavy snow, her vehicle stood out the most.
Chen Jiayan removed her hand and then grabbed her wrist, pulling her to the car.
Perhaps realizing what he intended, Xie Baola stopped him.
"You want to shove into the car? I won’t drive back, I’ll just wait here for you."
Xie Baola’s chin was raised defiantly,
showing her resolve.
Chen Jiayan forcefully brought her to the car’s side, opening his hand: "Give your car keys."
Xie Baola shook her head: "No, what are you up to?"
Chen Jiayan, resigned: "I need to go sowhere, I’ll take your car."
Xie Baola was half-convinced.
Eventually, she opened the car door and gestured for Chen Jiayan to get in.
Chen Jiayan had no choice but to bend down, enter the car first, and start it after receiving the keys.
Xie Baola, confused: "Where are you going?"
Chen Jiayan’s voice was calm: "To the orphanage."
Xie Baola: "..."
Only then did Xie Baola learn that Chen Jiayan grew up in an orphanage.
He ca from an orphanage, yet he had made a na for himself in Hai City; he was indeed the excellent man she had set her sights on!
Xie Baola looked at him with eyes full of admiration.
Following Chen Jiayan, Xie Baola t the kind-hearted director of the orphanage and the cute yet pitiful children.
Only then did she learn that Chen Jiayan had been supporting the orphanage all these years.
He was truly remarkable.
Leaving the orphanage,
it was still Chen Jiayan driving.
"Back to Begonia Joy Mansion?" he asked.
"No." Xie Baola shook her head: "To the Xie Family."
"Address."
Xie Baola gave him the address.
Half an hour later, Chen Jiayan parked outside the grand entrance of the Xie Family.
"Here we are."
Xie Baola crossed her arms and gave him a look: "So you took my car just to drop off at ho and then ditch ?"
Chen Jiayan didn’t answer, only saying: "Go inside, I’m going back ho too."
"I’m telling you kindly, you can’t get a taxi here; if you walk, it’s quite a distance."
"No matter."
Xie Baola was speechless.
"...No matter for you, but it matters to ."
She couldn’t bear to let him walk back in such harsh weather.
It would upset her.
Just to ditch her, he was really doing whatever it took.
Seeing a snowflake on his eyelashes, Xie Baola reached out to remove it for him.
Chen Jiayan stepped back.
"Miss Xie, as you’ve seen, we have many incompatibilities."
He should have realized from their trip to the orphanage what kind of life he’d lived before.
