Jayden POV
How many days it has been? Three? Four? No, I think five days. Ah. I lost count of it. I was beaten and tortured every day with little to no food and water.
The man who was torturing would co as soon as the sun rises. He would stop at noon and leave with a glass of water and a slice of bread but sotis he would leave with nothing. Then he would co back after an hour or two and would start beating again.
The beating would stop when the sun sets and the man would smirk at , sotis spit on my face before leaving bruised and bloodied.
The last ti I saw Benjamin was on the way into this shithole. He never set foot in my cell. That’s what I called it—a cell. The place was like a prison anyway and I was thinking that I might die in this cold dark space.
Although I was being tortured every day. I have never regretted my decision. I have to be strong and make sure not to die until they find .
My feet felt so numb and my arms felt heavy. My wrists were chained above my head and I was standing for a few days now. I could feel the open wounds on my back from the whipping earlier.
I suddenly heard footsteps in front of the door. I waited for soone to co in, but no one entered the room. But I noticed the shadows outside.
"The guy inside is tough. Been beating the shit out of him for a week now, but his eyes never changed." One of the n comnted.
"What do you an?" The other guy asked.
"His silver eyes change from crystal-like into nothing." The man answered.
I heard so laughter with the man’s answer.
"You said it never changes. Now you’re saying it did." A man with a low voice said.
"It never change because his eyes were always like that. Every ti I enter this cage, his eyes were gleaming. Then it will suddenly change into nothing. Like he has no soul. It’s creeping out. Leaving was creepier. Two days ago, I thought I was staring into another man’s eyes. This is the first ti I felt like no one could break this guy, even the boss." The man explained.
"And it’s been like that ever since you started beating him?" Soone asked.
"Yes. It’s like he’s waiting for to beat him."
I heard laughter again.
"You’re imagining things." The guy with a low voice comnted.
"But I heard this guy is related to the Castello’s and boss’ daughter’s husband."
"That girl is not his daughter. She’s the enemy’s child. Why do you think the boss is so obsessed with that girl?" The man exclaid.
Then there was silence for about a minute or two. Maybe they were thinking about the real reason for their boss’ actions.
Like them, I honestly didn’t get the reason for his revenge. Why go to this extent? Was he just a sadistic old man who enjoy bringing pain to others?
If I were him, I would just kill everyone and that’s it. I would not waste my ti for more than two decades to avenge my broken heart. But I know there was sothing more to his revenge. His madness would not get this far for just a la reason.
Ah! Why would I think of Benjamin instead of thinking about myself? I’m so exhausted but I couldn’t close my eyes even for a few minutes. I felt like if I did, I would fall into a deep slumber. I’m scared of giving into the darkness again because right now, Peggy is not with . I’m not sure if I could see the light if she’s not beside .
I mustered my strength to put so weight on my legs and feet. I need to stand up to lessen the numbness in my arms.
I tried five tis and failed. But I didn’t give up and for the sixth ti, I was able to stand up and my stretched arms were now in front of my face.
The door suddenly opened and the light from outside almost blinded . A young woman in her early twenties ca with a dicine box in her hands.
She didn’t say a word, nor glanced at . She stepped behind and heard her opening the box.
"W-What are you doing?" I whispered in a hoarse voice.
"Treating your wounds." She answered.
"Why?" I asked.
"I’m just following orders. So, please stop talking. I don’t want to get in trouble." She said.
I didn’t ask again. Not because of what she said, but because I felt like nothing would change if I talk to this powerless girl.
I flinched when she started cleaning my wounds. The strong scent of disinfectant and alcohol lingered inside my cell.
After treating my wounds and covering my upper body with a bandage, she walked in front of and started to wipe the blood on my face. I could not see the girl’s face, but there was sothing familiar with her.
Then the door opened again and the man who beats walked inside, leaving the door ajar. The light entered the room so I was able to see the girl who was busy attending to my wounds.
It was Veronica—Peggy’s half-sister. My eyes widened realizing who it was. The last ti I saw her was in Flousia, why is she here?
"Call when you’re done and I’m warning you, keep your mouth shut or you’re dead." The man threatened her.
Veronica nodded in agreent and didn’t say a word. The man walked out and left while I started at Veronica, confused.
"W-Why are you—"
"Sshh! I told you to stop talking to . You don’t know , understand?" She said.
I nodded.
"Now, listen to . I don’t know why and how you ended up here. But I’m here because father sent a few months ago. I am acting as a spy for the Forelli Clan. Big brother, does my sister know that you were taken?"
I nodded again.
"Then I have to contact father. She will co for you. You know that, right? She will stop at nothing to find you."
I didn’t answer because I knew she was right. Peggy would not give up on . And I know the danger she might go through because of .
