Chapter 707: Chapter 707: Older Brothers and Sisters Bring Warmth
When Erbao returned ho, she relayed the situation to her father. "Dad, what do you think we should do?"
Lin Feng had his own small pharmacy, filled with various dicines and extraction equipnt that he liked to tinker with in his spare ti. He was currently grinding herbs and replied distractedly, "I’ll prepare so oral dication for him to take with him. He can take it wherever he goes."
Erbao stepped closer. "Dad, can you really cure him? Give
a straight answer."
Lin Feng said he was eighty percent sure, which made Erbao smile. "Then Dad, can you also make him so dicine for stanching bleeding and promoting blood circulation to remove stasis?"
"You know their missions are very dangerous. It’s always good to be prepared, just in case."
Lin Feng put down his work. "They already have supplies for that. They don’t need the little I can offer."
But Erbao insisted, demanding that Lin Feng prepare so dicine no matter what. Things to refresh the mind, promote blood circulation, stop bleeding—she wanted it all.
Lin Feng looked speechlessly at his daughter, who was so clearly siding with an outsider. "I need to ask Qin Jiang what he needs. You’re a layperson, what do you know?"
Qin Jiang had managed to get a few days to stay in icheng, a hard-earned opportunity. After all, even though he was handso, winning a wife wasn’t easy. After much hesitation, the higher-ups had finally steeled themselves and approved his leave, encouraging him to pursue a romantic relationship and resolve his personal matters as soon as possible.
During the day, Qin Jiang received acupuncture at ho, and in the afternoon, he and Erbao went out to enjoy their own little world together—a fact obvious to anyone with eyes.
Aware of his tight schedule, Lin Feng adjusted the treatnt, making that day’s session last two and a half hours. Qin Jiang wasn’t a man of many words, and neither was Lin Feng. The conversation they had during the treatnt could be counted on one hand.
"How does it feel?"
"Painful."
"How painful?"
"Very painful."
"It might hurt even more in a mont. Hang in there."
Qin Jiang grinned. "No problem."
In less than five seconds, a cold sweat drenched his body, and an agonizing pain throbbed across his back. He was both shocked and delighted. No longer doubting Lin Feng’s dical skills, he suddenly beca more talkative.
"Uncle, where did you learn your dical skills? You’re even better than any of the old doctors I’ve found."
"Self-taught."
"...Haha, Uncle, you’re quite the joker."
Lin Feng chuckled, handing him a towel to wipe his sweat. He instructed him not to bathe for at least six hours.
"Erbao asked
to prepare so dicine for you—sothing to stop bleeding, refresh your mind, that sort of thing. Do you have a need for any of that?"
A warmth spread through Qin Jiang’s heart. He’d ntioned these things in passing during a casual chat with Erbao. He had long forgotten, but she had rembered.
"We’re already equipped with those, no need to trouble you, Uncle."
Recalling Erbao’s insistence, Lin Feng figured Qin Jiang was his future son-in-law, no doubt about it. "It’s no trouble. I’ll prepare so more for you."
That evening, Lin Feng was busy in his small pharmacy until late.
Erbao ca trotting over. "Dad, still up? What are you doing?"
Lin Feng glanced at her. Wasn’t the answer obvious?
Erbao giggled. "You’re working so hard, Dad. I’ll go make you a bowl of noodles!"
Lin Feng wasn’t hungry, but he couldn’t refuse his daughter’s kind gesture. "I don’t eat much. A small bowl will be fine."
Half an hour later, Erbao brought him a bowl of noodles with egg and green onions, seasoned with a sauce Lin Feng had made himself. Naturally, the taste was superb.
"Is it ready, Dad?"
"Mhm."
The dicine was packed in small porcelain vials stored inside little gourds. Seeing the small quantity, Erbao thought it was too little.
Lin Feng snatched them back. "Too little? I was reluctant to make them in the first place."
Erbao took them back with a sheepish grin. "Oh, co on, I was just making a comnt. Don’t be mad, okay?"
Lin Feng huffed a couple of tis.
「Qin Jiang stayed with the Lin family for three days.」
He was scheduled for a mission the following day, and his return date was uncertain. But the next ti he ca back, regardless of whether it was for the New Year, he planned to take Erbao to Jingcheng for their parents to et.
Erbao felt a rare coyness, feeling as though she’d been tricked. She felt like they hadn’t even been dating for long enough!
Lin Feng and Zhang Yuxi had no objections. They had already started discussing what gifts to prepare for the eting.
As he was leaving, Lin Feng handed all the dicine to Qin Jiang, carefully instructing him on each one. When Qin Jiang parted ways with Erbao, she also repeatedly reminded him to take the dicine with him. No matter how much he might boast, Qin Jiang was still human, not a god.
anwhile, Fatty had struggled for nearly a month, but the results were remarkable. For the entire period, he had woken up in an exceptionally good mood every single morning. Lin Feng gave him so dicine to regulate his system and told him to take it on ti, stay up less, drink less, smoke less, and lead a healthier lifestyle.
Having no other way to repay him, Fatty transferred ten million yuan to Lin Feng.
"Director Lin, you must accept this money. It’s just a small token of my imnse gratitude."
"I’ll draft the contract later and bring it for your review. Like I said, I’ll give you half the shares in my businesses, and I an it!"
The Fatty went ho, smiling cheerfully.
For the past month, while Lin Feng had been busy at ho, Xiaobao attended calligraphy and Taekwondo classes. With her out of the house, things beca much quieter. Once the Fatty left, Lin Feng finally had so free ti. He took a look around and realized, wow, the dog days of sumr had arrived. During sumr these days, air conditioning was a lifesaver.
"Co here. Let Dad see if your handwriting has improved."
Xiaobao’s writing in her notebook had indeed improved a great deal. Her chicken scratch was gone, and her characters were much more pleasing to the eye. He used Dabao as an example to earnestly lecture his daughter.
"At first, your brother Dabao’s handwriting was even uglier than yours. But then he found so copybooks and practiced and practiced. He worked so hard."
"Now look at your brother Dabao’s handwriting. It’s the most beautiful among all of us."
"So, you see, it’s okay if you can’t do sothing well at first. As long as you work hard, you can definitely change."
Xiaobao listened with a blank expression. "Dad, can I go back to my howork now?"
Lin Feng sighed. "...Go ahead."
It’s so hard to teach kids these days, he thought.
Xiaobao was miserable. She was already slow with her howork, and now that she had to write every single stroke so carefully, she was even slower. She was about to go crazy! She didn’t want to listen to his grand principles; she just wanted to finish her sumr howork as quickly as possible.
So where did this sumr howork co from? It was the doing of her "loving" older siblings. One day in their group chat, Erbao had an idea and decided to give Xiaobao so workbooks. After all, Xiaobao had been quite a handful at ho recently.
Sibao, never one to miss out on making trouble, chid in, "Count
in!"
Sanbao added, "Xiaobao will cry if she finds out. Count
in too."
"You can’t leave
out," Dabao wrote. "...But let’s try to keep the number of workbooks to a minimum."
And so, with each of them contributing one, the four workbooks added up to quite a lot. Erbao even gave them to Xiaobao, saying they were from her teacher. Xiaobao was dumbfounded and completely fell for it.
Consequently, for a whole month, she kept busy with her own activities during the day and slaved over her howork at night. She was close to finishing all four workbooks.
「Three days later, on a rare overcast day, Lin Feng took Xiaobao out to play.」
By sheer coincidence, they ran into one of her classmates, another good student who also got perfect scores. Xiaobao was shocked to discover that he had no workbooks.
The other child was equally shocked to hear that soone with perfect scores still had to do so many workbooks. He knew right away it had to be a trick.
Despite the pleasant overcast weather, Xiaobao was in an exceptionally foul mood. With a wail, she burst into tears. She grabbed onto Lin Feng and howled, including him in her accusations.
Lin Feng was also shocked. "I thought you knew they were from your siblings," he said.
That explains it, he thought. There was no way Xiaobao would have obediently done so many workbooks otherwise.
Xiaobao cried her heart out, and Lin Feng’s own heart ached for his daughter. After comforting her for a good while and promising her three wishes, the little one finally began to quiet down.
Sitting on a bench outside an ice cream shop, Xiaobao called her teacher. After confirming there was indeed no assigned howork, she ground her teeth in fury.
