Lunara’s breath caught in her throat at his words. The way he looked at her like he was so certain. It made sothing inside her twist painfully. She hated it. Hated how easily he could see through her, how she could never seem to hide her emotions from him.
Before she could react, Eryx moved. His lips crashed against hers, stealing the air from her lungs. The kiss was firm, intense, like he was trying to make her feel sothing she didn’t want to admit.
For a fleeting second, her body betrayed her. She responded, fingers gripping his shirt, heart pounding. But then, the realization hit.
With a sharp inhale, she shoved him away.
Lunara staggered back, pressing a hand to her lips as if that could erase the feeling. Her chest rose and fell, her pulse unsteady. But what unsettled her the most wasn’t the kiss itself, it was how easily he made her lose control.
"I hate this..." she whispered, more to herself than to him.
Eryx’s gaze darkened. "Lunara—"
"I hate myself," she cut him off, her voice unsteady. "Because no matter how much I try to fight it, I can’t stop feeling this way." Her fingers curled into fists at her sides. "And you—" She exhaled sharply. "You know that, don’t you? That’s why you keep doing this."
Eryx’s frown deepened. "Know what?"
"You," Lunara spat, her frustration spilling over. "You must be so experienced. I an, being a hot, thirty-year-old CEO, I bet you’ve played with plenty of won’s hearts." She let out a bitter laugh, her chest rising and falling. "And ... I’m just the young, stupid one who keeps falling for it, falling for you even after being abandoned for two damn years!"
Her voice cracked on the last word, and she hated it. Hated how raw and exposed she felt in front of him.
Eryx’s jaw clenched, his expression unreadable. "You think this is a ga to ?" His voice was low, but there was sothing sharp beneath it.
"What else could it be?" she snapped. "You kiss every ti you want to prove a point. You keep pulling in, but you were the one who left in the first place! If it’s not a ga, then what the hell is it?"
He stepped closer, his presence overwhelming. "You really think I’ve been with a lot of won?"
Lunara hesitated, taken aback by his tone. "Haven’t you?" She crossed her arms tightly over her chest. "Seraphine... probably the one you have a love interest. I heard about her the other day. And now Valerie? The woman you’re supposedly getting engaged to? You always have won around you, Eryx."
Eryx let out a sharp breath, his frustration reaching its limit. He ran a hand through his hair before stepping closer, his voice firm. "Enough." His gaze locked onto hers, intense and unwavering. "We’re going to talk about every single misunderstanding, right here, right now. You’re not leaving until you’ve asked every damn question that’s been haunting you."
Lunara blinked, montarily stunned by his sudden outburst. "You can’t just—"
"Oh, I can," he cut in, his jaw clenched. "Because I’m done with us going around and around without solving anything." His eyes locked onto hers, intense and unyielding. "We’ve wasted enough ti." He pulled her gently closer. "Now, let’s start with Seraphine. Perhaps you heard from my conversation with Adam earlier, but Seraphine and I used to be close friends."
Lunara’s brow furrowed as she struggled to keep her composure. "Close friends?" she repeated, trying to wrap her mind around his words. "But that’s not what I heard... He clearly said sothing about love confession."
Eryx’s expression hardened, and he stood up straighter, as though bracing himself. "Seraphine? Let’s get this straight," he began, his voice low but steady, "Two years ago, I wasn’t thinking about love. It wasn’t about her or about wanting her. It was about my mother and the damn deal she forced into."
Lunara tilted her head, trying to make sense of his words. "Deal? Is it the deal you ntioned back then?"
He nodded imdiately. Although he felt bad, he wasn’t entirely lying. "My mother told that if I didn’t marry, she wouldn’t allow to have custody of Mila. I had to get married, or I wouldn’t be able to raise her. I was desperate, Lunara. I didn’t have a choice."
"So, that’s it?" Lunara arched a brow, her voice laced with disbelief. "You offered Seraphine marriage, and when she rejected you, you turned to ? Forced into this marriage and then..." She paused, her throat tightening, "left hanging?"
Eryx’s jaw clenched. "I know you still feel like you were being wrong here, I couldn’t do anything to change the past, but can you at least give a chance?"
Lunara let out a sharp, bitter laugh. "Wait... is that it?" She narrowed her eyes at him, tilting her head. "Are you trying so hard to win back after two years just because you want to sleep with , right?"
Eryx’s expression turned dark. "Lunara."
She ignored the warning in his tone, folding her arms. "I an, it makes sense. You kiss , corner , act like you suddenly care—" She let out a mocking scoff. "If you’re going to put this much effort into seduction, you might as well admit it outright."
His jaw clenched, his patience visibly thinning. "That’s what you think?"
"I don’t know," she shot back, voice dripping with sarcasm. "You tell . Since when did my feelings start mattering to you?"
His eyes darkened. "If all I wanted was to sleep with you, do you really think I would’ve waited two years?"
"Well..." Lunara shrugged, her sneer sharp and cold. "You didn’t seem like the type who’d settle for soone as ugly as two years ago."
Eryx’s expression hardened. A bitter chuckle escaped him, laced with disbelief and anger. "And you think you’re any different now?"
Lunara’s eyes glead with defiance as she took a step closer, tilting her head. "Well, I might not be different, but I know one thing..." She smirked, her voice dripping with challenge. "I at least know, that you wouldn’t sleep in peace if I were beside you all night."
Eryx’s gaze flickered with sothing unreadable before his lips curled into a slow, dangerous smile. "Then shall we test that theory tonight?"
